- In this video we get the second flight in on the Goosky RS7! Heli is flying great but we definitely need to get the governor working and get a consistent head speed! This the perfect representation on why you need a governor.

Ok that's nice, I'm going to fly my blade 120s now.🤣
Thank you! As long as you’re flying, it doesn’t matter what it is!
Just bought my first heli in over 5 years watching your videos made me want to start flying again. Picked up a goosky s1 can’t wait for it to show up!
That’s awesome! I’m glad my videos got you back into flying. You will love the S1. It’s a micro unlike any other. It flys like a big heli. Technology has changed a lot in 5 years and for the better!
Good for you.The M1 is cool from what I hear. I have m2 v2 and m2 evo. These things are almost as stable as larger helicopters excellent machines.
I just put a comment about the Spirit GT
If you get a larger helicopter, consider this fbl controller.
I just got it today. It’s a beast!
RS7 is impressive in the air, love it. Great video, thanks.
Thank you! I appreciate that. It’s much better with a working governor. Definitely likes higher head speed.
Agreed… great presence in the air.
I never understood what a Governor would be used for. But this makes total sense after watching it. It reminds me of how my M1 and more so on the M2 of how it reacts to a backflip. The RPM's drop pretty bad when recovering and settling in, inverted for a second before picking back up. Since I still haven't setup anything on ANY heli yet, and still gathering info before I start messing with things on that new 580 this is REALLY helpful. I was even wrong in my thinking as to why one was needed on a Gas heli. When a person thinks "Governor" on a gas engine in a car you think "Limit" like if you put a block of wood behind the accelerator pedal. So if you push the pedal hard or soft, it won't make a difference in how fast the car will accelerate. Maybe I'm still wrong, lol. But NOW at least I SEE and understand what it does for a heli.
A governor just keeps a consistent head speed at your targeted RPM. So that way it can add or take away power as needed throughout your flight. It doesn’t limit the helicopter by any means. Unlike a car where it governed your speed, the governor is just keeping that targeted RPM so you have a more consistent flight.
Yes what Jeff said but your m1 and m2 use tqally or one of those acronyms to control the tail it will increase and decrease head speed while changing the tail speed to keep it straight . It has nothing to do with the gov on an m1 and m2 . I actually don’t think they have a gov because it would cause the tail to loose control. M1 and M2 size heli are a toy compared to anything 300 and up with tail pitch .
yep lol a gobernor on small gas engines is a different concept than gobernor in the rc heli hobby, the gobernor on gas engines are to avoid blowing up the motor by reving it up too much, in the heli hobby is like the cruise control of the vehicles going up and down the hills to maintain constant speed but in helis mantain the rpm´s
Whats up WHRC.... hey I'm a little lost on the governor topic. Do all helis need to have a governor setup? I'm doing a 500 raw build with the Brian FBL, Theta servos, 120 HW esc, and a 900KV Lighting motor. Just curious if you think setting up the governor is just for certain size helis, or if we should be setting one up for all helis.
Nice flight Jeff, those blades sound awesome 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you! I appreciate it. They really do! Lots of chop!
Guys.
I just want to say just like most of you watching this video. I'm, I'm very deep into rc helicopters.
I recently picked up a Spirit GT fbl controller, and I can not speak highly enough about it. It is easy to set up and has a plethora of features, and that automatic rescue at whatever altitude you set it at works flawlessly.
I just want to put that out there because i've seen good companies come and go. Like Skookum robotics.
I love how he needs to catch his breath after informing us about the heli specs🤣🤣His heli is just built like that. ''built different''
I just wanted to know your opinion. Which one do you enjoy flying regularly, 700 size or 600 (sab raw 580) size ? Also please tell me why
My favorite heli is the RAW 580, it’s a perfect everyday size and flys bigger. It’s less intimidating then a 700 and being 6s it’s lighter and simpler. I love my 700s but I prefer 550/600 size helis.
Good question, I wonder that too. Biggest I've flown is raw 580 and trex 550, I like they use 6s. Thinking about 700 (sab or M7) but raw 580 is awesome.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Awesome! Thanks!
@@mikefuchs2814 Yes. One more niche reason is a 600 size heli fits in the backseat of my car easily, but for my 3 bladed 700 size Kraken I'll have to fold the backseats or else it won't fit 😅
I can see you are enjoying your rs7 more. Good.
I am! Getting some more stick time and use to the model.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 how do you compare RS7 flight to raw 700's today?
Is a seperate 2s lipo for your bec advisable? I’m planning to use the bec from my hobbywing platinum 120 for my raw 500 build…
It's just for redundancy. In case your esc malfunctions.
The reason I’m running a 2S Lipo is because this ESC does not have a BEC. So the 2S Lipo is what powers the Servos.
Jeff I’m sorry if I missed you say it but what esc are you using in this heli?
I don’t believe I said in this video, but castle 160HV.
@@westhobbiesrc8051
Ok thx. So will you make a video explaining what needed setting up/adjusting in the esc?
Surely you are using the ESC governor Jeff? Try Elf mode and stay away from Sto?
This one has an old castle 160HV. I was having issues with the rpm numbers that I wanted with the stock gearing, so I just left the governor off and just did flat throttle curves. I got a 12t pinion and for the governor working some what now lol not great but that’s the castle ESC. I need to run my AUX wire so I can use iKon governor.
ahhhhh makes sense completely.@@westhobbiesrc8051
Is there a difference between a governor in an esc than a fly at unit? Because I’ve heard of both but don’t know the difference
How many helicopters did you crash before reaching that skills?
@@johnnimrodaustria8356 countless, because I learned to fly before we had sims. Now you can just learn everything on the sim and only crash a few times.
Nice !!
Thank you!
Awesome as always, brother!
What camera do you use for your footage?
Thank you! I greatly appreciate that. I’m using a GoPro Hero 8 right now with a Head mount. Getting a GoPro 11 next as the quality is a lot better
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Thank you for your response. I’m currently in the middle of trying to wire my new SAB Raw Piuma 700 as cleanly as you do. I’m becoming a pro at crimping those servo wires. I decided to go with a Piuma for my first 700, just to keep it mellow for a while.
@@DeathPunch_80 heck yeah! I love hearing you guys taking the time to clean up and make you wiring nice and tight! Crimping the servo plugs can be tricky to learn but once you get the hang of it, it’s easy! The Piuma is great! I love flying mine at low head speed.perfect first 700!
Nice video! How the setup going with the Spirt GT?
Thank you! I, working on it right now!
@@westhobbiesrc8051 What heli are you going to use it on?
@@barryjindra6327 a old Blade 360 CFX for now. Want to see how it flys and setup. Then later on a Kraken 580.
My flying friend: “you dont meed a governor. Jeff west does setups without governors but he’s super smooth on the collective!”
Jeff west: “THIS IS WHY YOU NEED A GOVERNOR”
Never once said I don’t use governors?
Thinking the RS7 might be my next 700. Not to keen on those canopies though. Nice flying
Xlpower 700NME or SAB are better options, Goosky copied their designs.
@@HiELvis-Helii Agreed. The RS7 is also expensive for what it is.
@@HiELvis-Heliithose u mentioned more expensive than rs7
@@nfavorbut it’s most affordable and good flying 700 class so far,a way better than tb60 or 70 and in my opinion omphobby it’s not good machine at all (I have experience with m2,m4,m4 max),but I agree Goosky heli are copied of Sab
@claytonwyne6540 I heard all rs7 canopy will crack
overall cost of rs7
All depends on your setup but I would say around $2500 if you go with all the best stuff.
In what state are you? Would like to come fly with you someday
Could learn a lot. Peace
I am in Tennessee, that would be awesome. Maybe we can schedule some thing!
@@westhobbiesrc8051 love to travel, not sure I in central NY state Albany area. Long drive. Will be in touch by email if going to happen. Thanks and peace
why are helicopters so expensive
Most parts are made by CNC machines which is high cost… and there aren’t many people in the hobby especially for these large heli… so lower sale - higher price 😢
Depends on what you want tho. A 400 500 size Heli is not that expensive
@@P.Trick93i still am Broke
Because machining and carbon fiber is not cheap. A ton of R&D goes into these models, as well as millions of dollars worth of machinery. And at their price point these companies still don’t make any real money.
you can get a used trex 470 inexpensively, and parts are affordable. Great practice heli.
