You are about the only one on RUclips who regularly reviews Srixon. Much appreciated.
My only problem with the Wilson's is I anticipate getting lots of complaints of slow play as I stop to admire the clubs after every shot. They are gorgeous!!!!!
haha
Yeh so true. They do look gorgeous.
Plus I would spend too much time cleaning em after every shot making sure they stay sexy 🔥
Had an opportunity to hit the Srixon Z Forged irons tonight. Wow, so smooth, I want a set! Thanks for the great video content, Michael. I agree these are both beautiful looking irons.
Thanks for the review. Both have beautiful ball flights. I’m ready for a new iron set and will absolutely take this into consideration.
Thanks for the review. Love the bore-through fluid feel hosel of the Wilsons. Have not been able to find a set to get an up close look. How does the Staff Model compare to the FG Tour 100?
I know the Wilsons are pure blades. Nice thin top line. The Srixons look a bit chunkier at the back and as you said, the head is slightly bigger. Is there any more forgiveness in the Srixons?
The srixons look very nice... Of course most of the irons look fantastic to begin with. However I can't get over how stunning those Wilson's look. The problem for me is that neither one of those Brands is available in any store close to where I live... With the exceptions of Wilson's low end complete sets. What I wouldn't give for a demo day.
Great review, both fantastic irons. The Srixons always seem to spin a bit less than other brands.
it's because the lofts are stronger
Both look like good options to me but I'd go with the Wilson personally. I still game my Dad's old Staff blades from the 80s a couple of times a year. The 7 iron is 39 degrees!! I can't find a place near me in Windsor, Canada to hit any Wilson clubs other than a couple of SGI models so I'm making a trip over the border on Saturday to see what I can find in suburban Detroit. These blades don't come in left but there are a couple of other forged options in LH I'll look at.
Nice comparison. Ill take the Srixons. Japanese forgings = quality.
If you don't think the Wilson forgings are just as good, you are mistaken. I've hit both irons and the Wilsons feel softer. Don't be so brainwashed to think Japanese win with every forged iron.
@@MXJEFF94 I disagree the Srixons felt better to me.
@@MXJEFF94 No im not brainwashed thanks. Ill take the Srixons. Yes ive hit both in different models. To me there is a very big difference between 8620 and 1020. You can even hear the difference in the strike sound when MN hits the ball. Japanese forgings are the best. The Wilsons are cast and most likely made in China. Still both very very nice clubs.
Robert, these Wilson clubs are forged, not cast. Wilson makes other models that are cast.
@@JDSFLA Yes i was anticipating this reply. To me there is a huge difference in feel, and manufacturing process. -""There are still forged purists who don’t consider 8620 irons true forged irons. Technically, 8620 carbon steel irons are initially cast to a near net shape, and then traditionally forged to finish the process. 1020 or 1025 forgings are forged from a single billet of steel.
“There’s a consistency to the 8620 process,” says Pergande. “We have to forge and polish less material, so we can make a more consistent product from one iron to the next in the same set, and from one set to the next.”
Does 8620 lack the same softness as 1020 or 1025? In reality, it’s very difficult to discern a difference because the irons are so similar in design. Elite players may be able to tell the difference, but sole configuration, CG location, and muscle back properties are equally as important.""
Sorry a little long. So i guess im a forging purist, and i can tell the difference in feel sorry ...
Why is it that your carry distance in each test of the wilson staff blade vary so much from 176 to 190? Looking at the video from the hotmetal and the srizon??? This is a bit odd to me
After your previous review of the Srixons I decided to order a set. Waiting with anticipation for them to arrive
You won’t be disappointed
I would have loved to see the new Cobra MB's in this comparison. Considering you reviewed the Cobra's recently, how do you feel they stack up against these two? Thanks
Can see why you love the Wilson's. Better control 're spin and how it feels to you. If I struck it as well as you it would definately be the Wilson's although I have hit the Hogan Fort Worth blades belonging to a friend and thought butter butter butter. They were awesome
Great review as always Michael! I can see why you love the Wilson's but it was interesting to see the proximity to the pin numbers. A 7' closer average for the Srixon was a pretty big number on this given day.
It looked like the Srixon was 11 yards and the Wilson was 18 feet, so the Wilson irons would've been 15 feet closer to the hole. I had to look twice when he showed the numbers.
Very similar, both have great numbers and i think it would be splitting hairs to pick one over the other. Think it would just come down to personal preference. Great review
Great Ball strikes! 👍
Interesting to note how the numbers can vary from day to day, even when the player has your consistency. When you reviewed the srixons you averaged 167 yards and 6900 spin. Very different today. Not a criticism at all, just interesting because when people go for a fitting they tend to trust the numbers they get, but the next day the numbers could be wildly different. Which is why i put more emphasis on what i like the look of and what i want to play, rather than the absolute numbers. With that in mind, i'm srixon z forged all the way!!
Great vid, keep em coming.
Michael, you and other equipment reviewers talk about static loft and distance spin numbers. Why not the Dynamic loft at impact numbers ? My OnOff Kuro 7 Iron is 31 degrees however I work on delivering about 4 degrees less or 28 degrees at impact assuring I'm not flipping it and adding loft. 1 degree static in an iron can be overcome at impact . Thoughts ?
TZOID08 because every golfer can deliver the club very differently. What your saying is correct, aiming for 28 degrees but the next golfer might flip it more and deliver 34/35.
@@MichaelNewtonGolf This is why swing analytics is so important. FlightScope , Foresight GC2 & Quad Trackman are essential in any lesson.... Gone are the days of a coach teaching by simply looking at ball flight. You're doing a great job Mike..
Thank you for this video!
Can’t wait to compare myself
both are my favourite...so beautiful iron
i 'll get the srixon z forged very soon😃
How about comparing your Wilson Staff 4 iron and TM p760 4 iron you used in a previous review.
James Orr sounds good
The Srixons look like incredible value over here (Ireland) €750 4-PW any shaft and grip... Sold!
Hi mate hope your well, great video love the look of those Wilson, but I think since my fitting with your good self, I’ve stuck with srixon the feel you get and ball flight is pure, 👍
All good thanks Matt. Srixon’s are sweet 👍
Them Wilson's look incredible!!!
Definitely prefer the Srixon. I like the longer blade length. Not so much for confidence/forgiveness, I just think it is more aesthetically pleasing behind the ball. Interestingly, Tiger also prefers a longer blade length. The finish on the Srixon is nicer too, not as much reflection/glare as the ultra-polished Wilson.
Hi Michael. Great videos and content. Just wondering if you actually paid for the Staff blade as you stated in a previous video? If yes, I am disappointed that Wilson didn't want to do something for you :( Keep up the great work! :D
You can argue all u want, Srixon irons are not anything like Staff irons. They lack the look and the tradition of Wilson Staff. I play the FG100 and they are admired by everyone I play gold with. They are awesome blades, great tradition....awesome feedback....
I meant golf with
I would go with Srixon since it has a VT sole.
Well I don't have the ability to hit either I would definitely go with the Wilson
Wilson staff for me. I've tested the srixon but spin is low.
I absolutely love the feel of my Z forged. I want to try some Wilson's just because they look great
Wilson Staff vs Mizuno MP 20. What does the non-bias public prefer?
ANOTHER ONE??!! Rick shiels cant even do a single video! Nice job
since 2014, z745 & 945 ... srixon kill'em all
Awesome comparison video!!
Just a thought, maybe P7TW vs P790??
If YOUR strikes were heavy, you should hear mine, when I struggling with a steep swing. I think the Earth hurts afterwards
Blade players are looking for the playability and workability provided by the spin. The Srixon numbers do not match up to clubs like the Wilson, Mizuno or Titleist. The Srixon has numbers more like their cavity back irons.
And the winner is .......... again
Wilson!!
wilson
33* for a 7blade! Amateurs! Get some proper lofts like my 37* Apex II'S!
