Thank you for giving Get to Work, Get Famous and High School Years the love that they deserve... I watched a lot of tier ranking and most of the time those 3 packs are always ranked at the bottom. I love those 3 EPs because of the amount of gameplay that they add on the game.

I think it's cause a lot people don't really enjoy some of the gameplay and it's understandable. But get to work is so good because I really enjoy going to work with my Sims and that it helps get them promotions quicker. With Get Famous having a celebrity Sim is great and it's kinda realistic about how people tend to lose fame if they don't communicate with fans. And then with High School years, the CAS and Build items are gorgeous and I love the pier and amusement park, but I can see people not enjoying it cause it's catered to Gen Z 😅

Me too! I barely bought a computer for Christmas just to play the sims 4, so I hadn't even played base game in over ten years, then during the sale I bought a bunch of packs, and it is so overwhelming, but I keep reminding myself that I will get used to it over time, and that I don't need to know everything all at once. It will happen over time. It makes me feel more overwhelmed to watch people on RUclips play because they know all the little details that I can't even imagine, not to mention all the mods and custom content out there. I'm not even going to concern myself with mods and cc until I feel like I have a good handle on the expansions I just bought. It just takes time.

@@themysticwarriorgal9465Cottage Living is one of those packs where you need the time to immerse yourself into all that is cottage living. i also think when you get multiple packs at once it’s hard to sort out the individual features of each anyway. Like the odd jobs feature in island living is just something I am starting to use and like quite a lot in multiple worlds. And I love using grocery delivery from Cottage living in every world now and use the market stall from there on several community lots.
Eco lifestyle has just been a bit much and like Cottage Living it’s one of those packs where ‘playing the pack’ is almost neccessary and my natural gameplay isn’t playing packs, it’s playing my family until the pack naturally crosses paths with my family. Like City Living felt like a natural expansion of my regular play, there was just a big city living option added to my worlds. Cats and Dogs just kinda slotted in without me having to think about it too much. But Cottage Living and Eco Lifestyle basically demand ‘pack play’ and since I am busy with other stuff in game, I just turned off the pack features in gameplay options for eco lifestyle and have been ignoring any clean up of that world as I have others I am interested in at the moment. I have a family in Henford on Bagley and love the world, but my young adult from the cottage farm went off to college and proably won’t be back to the family farm for awhile, leaving much of Cottage Living’s features untouched by me for the moment.

I bought island living during last year's spring sale, then cats and dogs on summer sale, seasons on autumn sale and now warewolves. And I also got first pet and romantic garden stuff for free during that sales. My point is that EA have sales every once in a while so you can buy different pack e every other sale if you want and not get overwhelmed

Wow, I’m shocked 😂 I love Island living, but then again, I lived in Hawaii for seven years so for me, it was a bit more nostalgia for the world. I love adding a bunch of chickens to all the lots, so you see chickens roaming around like you do in Hawaii and I’m absolutely obsessed with the mermaid occult I think it’s the best occult in my opinion. Also, with the career that you can do as a diver, you get to uncover treasure and you get a lot of cool relics from diving for treasure. I also love being able to build houses on top of the water that’s connected to ocean and also you can have catamarans, sea dues and boats that you can use to to either go fishing or you can even find private beaches that you can sunbathe on. Oh my gosh it’s just endless for me. However, I could also understand that people that might go stir crazy being on an island maybe wouldn’t like this pack whereas I felt living in Hawaii there was endless things to do. I personally think the Star Wars expansion pack is the absolute worst because there’s literally no interaction other than some cool outfits. For rent is as bugged out as dine out 😂

Great to see Get to Work seeing some love for once! I feel like a lot of simmers take it for granted. It isn't as thorough as newer ones, but I really like that pack. Seasons, Growing Together and Cottage Living would definitely be my top ranks for packs. I LOVE them. Big family game player.

I love that Get Famous and Get to Work were so high on the list. I will say that Seasons is one of my middle packs. I like the environment changes but I almost never use any of the other gameplay and when it came out, the gardening system broke and really hasn't been fixed since. I am an Eco Lifestyle girlie, though. Eco Lifestyle has one of my favorite death types in the game (Beetle Juice) which makes your sim into an instant ghost (much like the wishing well). But, unlike the wishing well death, the Beetle Juice ghost has a great bit of cross compatability in that they don't feel the effects of a haunted house. If I want reward store points, I mix up some Beetle Juice, drink it and then turn my house into a haunted lot on Heroic mode. I also love the careers from the pack. Can't wait for the next one where to bottom with definitely be either My Wedding Stories or Journey to Batuu.

Get Together is a must have pack for me. People are not using the full potential of clubs. Yes, you can make traditional clubs. But this feature is perfect for making friends groups, social circles, family reunions, speed dating events, finding sims around your age, etc. it’s the best feature added in the sims 4 and it’s not even close.

I always find it interesting when people rank Island Living so low, because that's one of my favorite expansion packs! (Probably because it was the first I ever bought) I just think the world is so pretty, and it's a nice change of pace for me, to just kind of relax, and have my sims spend their entire day at the beach if they wanted. I do really wish they had added more to mermaids though!

After hearing this multiple times now, I wonder if anyone else doesn't really like the seasons pack - well I do like it but it would never be in my top 5 because often times I find myself rather ignoring the seasons passing by while playing or even being bothered by it due to heat, cold and when playing on Sulani the thunderstorms during autumn are really a disturbance. I even don't really like the Christmas holiday or holidays at all - because they also disturb gameplay and you have to focus on getting your sim a good holiday experience. It's definitely realistic but I don't think I need it for the game. The best thing of the pack is definitely the aesthetics of having a snowy world and all that, but even that can become annoying when building a lot during winter and not being able to see how it would "normally" look like when there's no snow.
I guess I just don't really get why the pack is commonly seen as one of the best. Maybe I'm overlooking some pack features I forgot about?

    • @trapkoda
      @trapkoda 6 месяцев назад +2

I would say you’re just different and that’s okay. Me personally I enjoy the seasons pack and all the little holidays it comes with because it gives you something extra to do other than your normal routine, so when it’s thanksgiving or Christmas it’s nice to decorate your home with decorations, or when it’s new years you can throw a house party, you just have to get into the game a little more, but everyone has a different play style on how they like to play, so for most it’s a pretty fun pack

And I’m kind of surprised Horse Ranch is as high as it is on your list. That one feels like a game pack to me. I LOVE your ranch lp but that’s because you’ve made it interesting with your storylines but I’ve seen some other ranch lps and it’s just so repetitive riding a horse all day or making nectar all day. I think those lps were centered around finishing the new aspirations though so it requires a lot of grinding

What I have discovered after over 800 hours of game play and owning all the packs is that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. It is the entire experience that makes Sims 4 my favorite game of all time. And I've been playing video games since the 70s. This list was wonderful and should be very helpful to new players trying to decide which packs to buy. I absolutely agree with you on the best packs and the worst packs. It's the middle of the list that I'd place in a different order. The packs you've rated in the middle are just more reliant on personal play style. I mean Seasons is a must have, the Island pack does offer very little but whether city life or country life is more fun is just personal taste.

😂😂😂 Not Island living in Last Place!! some of my favorite Sim families in my rotation live there. I find it is a pretty expansive world to walk around and not get fruatrated with and I find the clean up of it more tangible than Eco Lifestyle which seems to have a bunch of non Sensical rules to transitioning the world. The NAPs are basically an annoyance after awhile. Where as when it comes to the same theme of cleaning up the world, I find Sulani seems less bureacratic and more tangible. Sulani is my favorite place to play the off grid lifestyle as well, because it just makes so much sense there. i’ve barely played with Mermaids, I just love living as a Sulani native as a regular old Sim tbh and I do it quite a lot. I basically use all of the eco-lifestyle ‘stuff’ in Sulani.

I felt like i was playing a game and they encouraged curiosity. They also came with built in beef and drama between sims! In snowy escape, I thought there supposedly was drama amongst the households but once I played them, i realized none of the characters knew each other yet and one teen wasn’t even related to her “grandparents.”

my issue with for rent - made two apartments for the not so berry challenge, so rose gen and mint gen could live next to each other, for mint to be involved in yellow gen's life. ran into a glitch however where my sims could never afford that, not without cheating. a simple apartment, with just the absolute needs - caused both apartments to be 4+ million for rent alone. it's very buggy for me. i'm a glitch magnet as it is, but from what i've read, i'm not the only one who has run into this glitch. and its hit or miss on rather it can even be fixed.
island living - i love mermaids. one of my fav creatures outside of the sims, and i remember what they were in the sims 3. sims 4 mermaids feel just.... lacking. there's not much to do with them. sims 3, we could dive down with our mermaids. we could explore the ocean's depths in detail in specific locations. sims 4, not so much. its just another rabbit hole. usually, i wouldn't really care too much about a rabbit hole, but this one annoyed and disappointed me. also, i know i'm not the only one that gets annoyed with random sims letting themselves into my sim's house while living in that beautiful world. place is gorgeous, but having strangers let themselves into my sims' house, help themselves to food, and at one point, even destroy some of my sims' stuff (this was before eco living, before action plans).. they've even stolen things. that has never set well with me. and apparently, my sims hated it too lol last time i ran the not so berry challenge, orange gen beat the daylights out of one of the intruders
--- ironically, i've had a glitch similar to the home invasion thing, in city living. npcs just walk right into my sims' house all the time when living in the apartments.. annoying.
horse ranch - i adore horses. loved them in sims 3. sims 4, i've found them to be very glitchy. but still adore them. i'll probably give them another try, for another play through. probably after i'm done with the current challenge i'm working on. also found i adore the little sheep and goats. they're just very cute. considered some of my sims having a goat or sheep for a pet at one point
eco living + bust the dust - ..... disabled all gameplay concerning it. it's just.. meh. not family gameplay. for me, it's just boring. but at least the decoration stuff is nice. and i do use some of the stuff that came with the first pack. bust the dust however, ironically lol sits in dust. have no interest in watching my sim vacuum all day. nor do i feel like dealing with dust. just isn't my thing. i hate having to clean IRL (still do cause has to be done), why would i wanna be bothered with this in a game?
all that said, ea, please, fairies? got a mod to fix the mermaids and give them more depth. love the werewolves, adore the vampires. spell casters are.. ok. not my favorite, but still pretty cool. sooo fairies when? lol would love to have em.

You surprised me with some of your ratings lol, seeing how much you loved your Horse Ranch/Cottage living let's play I thought it would be higher but I can see what you mean as well, and the let's see how drunk our Sim can get video was brilliant, so I'd agree them getting drunk does add a lot, I really love it he horses and again find they add a lot, as they're a lot more reactive to their environments and other things than I think Sims 3 ones were.
I do agree with Seasons, I always have my Sims celebrate all the holidays (apart from the beat up everyone for fun one lol - forgot what it's called) and I love making custom ones, Egg Day, Spooky Day for example. I would say for me Cats and Dogs ranks up there, as their may not be lots of explicit gameplay with them, but they add to the family in a big way, you've not seen anything until your Sim infant falls asleep next to their puppy lol. I also find I miss having cats and dogs in my Xbox save where I only have the packs offered for free lol.
And yep Growing Together adds so much, it was one of the first expansions where I played with the pre-made families and they're now added into my legacy rotational playing, the Robles family especially, Aurelio is just a cutie! 😍 Playing infants on the Xbox save without growing together is definitely less of a challenge and they just don't seem as full, like they have no personality as they have no quirks, so yep that pack adds so much!
I'm intrigued to see which is your favourite game pack! 😊

I agree seasons expansion pack is the top of my ranking, it's also the first pack I bought for the Sims 4. Island living for me is fun, but not at the bottom of the list somewhere in between, what I missed is the ability to build boathouse and it's counter version snowy escape another fun experience for me. I went to Japan in real life FYI. The experience is great but sports climbing in real life is just as hard as in the Sims 4. But the one in the bottom is Get to work, was a boring experience for me. Discover university is almost no.1 , I used to go to college and have found memories, until I graduated in real life back in 2021.

i think it was island living that brought swimming in bodies of water other than swimming pools? for that reason alone (and the beautiful world) it ranks high for me. Season and Growing Together are definitely at the top including get to work (it introduced illnesses right?). Packs that add more realism, however minute or forgettable they may seem to some rank high for me because those are the features i use often in my gameplay. Like the simple living lot trait from Cottage living, dust system (Bite the Dust kit), wearing slippers or no shoes at home (snowy escape), laundry (Laundry Day stuff pack), etc..
As for the fame system, I rarely use it, in fact i have mods to disable or tone down a lot of the get famous features because I find them annoying.
    Great video Karla!

I find that I am far more of a builder than anything else when it comes to TS4, so more often than not judge the packs based on their build and buy content, which would put the likes of Eco Living much higher on my list as I find myself constantly returning to it.

Personally, I love Mt. Komorebi, but it might be mainly the Japanophile part of me, dreaming of visiting, having studied the language etc. Cottage Living is one of my favorites as well, mainly because for me, it's piece of home, even though it's English countryside, I've sorta turned it into Finnish countryside =D I grew up on a small dairy farm, so I felt right at home. Seasons was something I wanted to have in TS2 but my old computer would have probably blown up had I installed that, plus, I had to install them in chronological order, which was a nightmare. The ability to plan and place your own holidays is absolutely great feature, as is ability to turn off thunder. Cheez, the lightning damages... Cats and Dogs is nice, I prefer the TS2 Pets, but eh, at least the little critters are free now and combined with Cottage Living and Horse Ranch, it gives you a goddamn zoo. XD Just need piggies now. Sulani is a terrific place, very barren feel, but eh, it's beach, when I hit vacay, I don't want to see people. For Rent, with all the glitches that corrupts save files actually terrifies me. I don't think I'll ever use the rental stuff at all, I want more vacation sites...

I pretty much agree with your list but I just can’t get into Cottage Living. That would be the bottom for me and I would switch Island Living in its place. For me, Island Living doesn’t exactly offer a lot, but it gives me a relaxed gameplay for certain storylines. I usually do a treasure hunter rags to riches with that one and it’s become one of my favorites! Your ranch rags to riches inspired me to play through that and I’m having a blast. Nectar making is THE BEST.
I don’t think you’ve done a treasure hunter play though, have you? If not, give it a go! I’ll usually bulldoze the lot near the waterfall (the house option) because there’s a diving buey that allows scuba diving lol

Oh it's been a while since I disagreed so strongly with a ranking, hahah! Your TOP 3 besides Seasons is literally my bottom 3! Get to Work and Discover University are not worth the expansion price at all, they are Game Pack value at best. And Growing Together offers way too small features with no real substance or changes to your overall gameplay. Not to mention all 3 of these offer very boring and almost useless worlds. Which is a huge selling point in expansions for me personally.
My TOP 3 will always be Island Living, Get Together and Cats & Dogs. (And Seasons obviously but atp I tend to not even consider that a pack lol!)
Island Living because I think a vacation/holiday pack is always an essential to any Sims game.
Get Together because the club system is probably my most used feature ever, I use it every single time I play the Sims. And as an European I just prefer the more Europe looking towns and worlds to play in.
Cats & Dogs because as an animal lover I can't even imagine not having pets around in my game. And again the world is sooo stunning and unique.
To make it TOP 5 I would add Snowy Escape and Cottage Living! Both are just all around lovely packs, with beautiful worlds and useful Build/Buy and CAS! And the gameplay for both offers outdoorsy activities, which I appreciate. I like everything that makes my sims leave the house hahah!

Ranks a pack higher for passing out drunk? Nationality confirmed! (as if the name and accent didn't give it away already... :-p )
Thanks for the list - I'm slowly getting the expansions and the order ties in quite closely with how I like to play too. I was interested to see University so high on the list, I must admit I mostly used the Sims 3 University pack as a cheat code, for example, if I wanted a sim to gain a skill, I'd send them to university for a course where I could get good grades just by working on that skill, and with how the time worked, it didn't cost them any days of their lifespan. I could also reliably make a fortune at Uni and come back absurdly rich. It was a good pack, but hard not to exploit (such as gardening the red coffee beans for more money in a day than many careers gave in a few weeks...). My one worry though is how does University work with a member of a family? I find it aggravating trying to play family members remotely as the options like 'care for yourself' don't seem to work at all, so if I'm constantly having to use that option it may be a struggle for me.
Having recently picked up Get To Work, I can see what you mean about the active careers maybe getting stale reasonably quickly. It makes me wonder if instead of active careers, what they ought to do in Project Rene is to have 'Active Crises' - instead of just getting a yes/no option when an opportunity shows up, you are actually transported to the work environment to fix the issue, so you have a few more options and maybe a better feeling of agency, without having to endlessly repeat actions that you do when working there

I'm actually kinda a seasons hater. Like it's fine and all, but I hate how most worlds (the one's I own at least) all are almost always gloomy. I force all my sims to live in Oasis Springs because I can't stand the gloom of the other seasons. Rain is the most I can handle. It pisses me off that I have to use my hard-earned reward points on the storm chaser trait before anything else because no matter the life stage, all sims are naturally just terrified of lightning storms. The holidays can be fun, but I rarely do much with them because I feel like there's not enough activities that appeal to me. I quite enjoy a lot of CAS and build buy assets from that pack though. Besides that and the NPCS the pack comes with, it's not really worth the money to me.

Not to mention its kind of culturally american centered - i really dont give a damn about thanksgiving. Then the mood buffs when they fail holidays... just overall very annoying to me

    my rankings:
    1: seasons
    2: island living
    3: growing together
    4: get together
    5: city living
    6: for rent
    7: snowy escape
    8: cats and dogs
    9: discover university
    10: high school years
    11: get famous
    12: horse ranch
    13: eco lifestyle
    14: get to work
    15: cottage living
i'm not into animal player but i'm okay with cats and dogs though because there is atleast a bit more gameplay in my opinion
it gets bored after a bit with cottage living, it's in the meh category but i don't really hate it but it's not on my taste is all
and you can speak the same with horse ranch but you have nectar making and if i'm right there's this rabbit hole thing
like you have in some worlds (like you have with Sulani and Tomarang to name something) to find stuff and the horse competition
isn't so difficult for me then i do with the competition with cottage living
get to work it's slightly higher then cottage living because there are 3 active career and you can run your own shop
i don't vibe with the worlds but it's for these reasons that makes it up for it
i don't vibe with eco lifestyle but maybe it's because i don't like messy and dirty world and i feel like with all the hiding faces and things
you can vote and try to improve and influence the world it makes things complicated but the container that have many possibilities
some stuff you can try (like recycle stuff and make stuff) and a few other things makes it up for it, it's why this is not on my lowest list
atleast compared to some other packs it does have some sort of gameplay
on the opposite hand i just LOVE seasons, it have lots of impact in the game and without extreme weathers it's gonna be very boring
so if only one expansion pack is allowed it's this one, it comes with holidays and you can organize parties and delete parties
in the calender, some of the worlds do need to work on the climate though because some of the weathers are the same to me
(for examble unless they fixed it Tartosa was almost always raining to name something) but other then that, it's perfect
sulani as the following one because i live near the sea and i'm all into swimming and some activities that's summer related
it have enough gameplay, you can explore things around and it even have a secret something that's just a rabbit hole but you
can find some cool stuff and you can have your own experiences whatever they are good or bad and you don't need a career
to earn money if you can help around Sulani by like doing the part-time kind of job (i use that one a lot to earn a bit of money)
i probably use this pack the MOST and the world in itself is really beautiful, the only minus are the mermaid ones, they did
so dirty with mermaids, i wish they did more with mermaids other then making weird noises and swimming in water or sea
growing together is perfectly made for me because i'm all into family gameplay, i don't vibe with the world and they could've
made it a basegame update but the milestone, the dramas and the likes/dislikes in personality makes it up for it
it's quite funny it can complicate things or it will only becomes closer and closer, that's why it's on the third best list
from the expansion packs and even the packs in general
maybe it's just the parties and clubs but get together is on my fourth best list on the expansion packs and allthough
the world is based on Germany it's very close to my country The Netherlands, they are quite alike so that's a plus one
i also like city living because of the events, the apartments and how it's based on night activities, i love how realistic
apartments are, some are very rich and some others are poor and have struggles with the lot traits (it do sometimes annoys
me at times but hey i love realistic gameplay)

I think it would be fair to compare Game Packs to Expansion Packs especially since EA can't figure out what is what anyways, personality I don't have alot of DLC, so it would be hard for me to rank them all, if I only based it on gameplay, but I watch alot of RUclipsrs🤷‍♀️
    1. Parenthood (Game Pack)
    2. Get Together
    3. Cottage Living
    4. Get to Work
    5. Snowy Escape (only because I don't have/want seasons: so I needed snow and calander events, but also mountains, Holiday lots and other cool stuff are great, I love the world).
I don't like seasons because it forces you to have the most annoying versions of a Weather systems and years that a way way too short, If I could have snow only when Christmas is in the real world, no lightning ever, not as much rain in The cottage living world and no sunburn, then I think seasons could be fun for me, but it's just not.
All the important stuff from Growing Together can be found in Mods,
Like for example Milestones and they seem to be better in the mods🤷‍♀️
I am planning on getting City Living and For Rent, but I don't own either right now🤷‍♀️

I feel get together gameplay boring. I like the clothing, skills and the world but I don't play with the clubs at all. Maybe because I am not very social myself and I prefer my sims being loners. Cats and dogs has its ups and downs also. I like build/buy and the world but I don't give pets to my sims very often. With the new packs I am little lost because no time for that anymore. Bjt I would love cottage living, highschool years and growing together. Horse ranch would be interesting, horses itself not my number 1 interest.
