Baltimore residents file civil rights complaint against Amtrak's Frederick Douglass Tunnel Program

- A civil rights complaint was filed by a group of Reservoir Hill residents to the U.S. Department of Transportation that alleges Amtrak's proposed Frederick Douglass Tunnel Program will disproportionately impact Baltimore's Black and low-income community members.
It's an underground tunnel, they won't even know it's there. They're just pulling a typical NIMBY shakedown.
So where were these people when they held the community outreach? Ether Amtrak and the state didn't get word out, or they did and the people in the complaint "missed the train." Not only that, multiple studies were held for decades, dating back to the 1970's and earlier.
Well, we'll let the courts sort this one out and have them bear the cost of any delays.
The trains are electric so there won't be any fumes coming out of the ventilation stacks.

With all the killing of Young Black males and females, children and babies in their own neighborhoods and this is what they complain about. This is pitiful.

I'm pretty sure that none of those people would be complaining if Amtrak had thrown a couple of dollars their way to accept the tunnel project. I'm also pretty sure that those same people would cry foul if the current old tunnel suddenly collapsed.

Resistance like this will happen on a greater scale if there is any major effort to build a nationwide high speed rail network, or even a regional one.
Say exactly how many homes and businesses will be taken over and demolished for the tunnel to be built. How polluting will that ventilation shaft be for an electrified railroad (will MARC still run diesel trains through it?). Will the West Baltimore MARC stop be moved since you keep showing it?
Where were they during the decades of planning for new Baltimore Amtrak tunnels? Where were they when governor Larry Hogan canceled the Red Line then tried to push through a maglev to Washington? Now it's a NIMBY thing.
I think MARC is in the process of going full electric.
Get ready for another mess there wanting to rename the key bridge to something elae cause someone is butthurt over the original name 😂
