The fact they released this film just 5 years after 9/11 makes McLoughlin and Jimeno's story all the more significant as it was still quite raw and very close to home (although you could still say that now after 16 years).
And still even 22 years later.
People really want to see 5 years after!
This doesn't make sense. He says is something going on in tower 2? The south tower is tower two. It fell first. The north tower fell second. But the tower they are in falls in this scene. That would be tower 2. They are in tower 2.
@@keithb372no, in this scene it is tower 2 falling which traps them below the rubble, tower 1 falls later
@@keithb372No, they’re not in the South Tower. If you payed attention to the movie, John says they’re going to 5 WTC, and as the South Tower collapses, it was probably too much for 5 WTC to handle and then 5 WTC falls after a bunch of rubble from the South Tower hits 5 WTC.

@@datsapaddlin Not many people would walk into a burning building. Even though the roaring flames were hundreds of feet above their heads, considering the enormous size and width of each towers footprint, I doubt many of the firemen didn't realise the danger they were facing and that a likelihood of collapse was very real.
@@KebabMusicLtd I don’t think anyone thought that automatically because it was an unknown situation. As soon as the first building fell they told everyone to get out of there in the other building. If they felt like it was a forgone conclusion they wouldn’t have been trying to reach the top and woulda just helped people on the lower levels for a few than left

It’s crazy that the shopping mall looked normal then was in ruins in under a minute
The World Trade Center collapsed and you’re shocked a shopping mall was in ruins?
I can't even imagine how scary it was when the ground started to shake
According to the calculations I've seen, the amount of released energy when Tower 2 came down was equivalent to that of a small nuclear device. Not as much heat energy, but enormous kinetic energy, enough to massively damage buildings several blocks away. And hundreds upon hundreds of first responders were at Ground Zero when the collapses began. Of those caught in the collapses, only seven survived. Seven.
Even that kinetic energy is the reason why WTC 7 was demolished some time later, because it was in danger of collapsing. Terrifying in every way.
Same energy as the titanic, 1500 were in the water and only 6 survived

@@keithb372 I think they were in the arcade between the towers. They realized that something was going on in Tower 2, then they see the debris start to land and realize something massive was happening. Chief orders them into the nearest elevator shaft - which was in Tower 2. Why not run to Tower 1?
-- They had no time
-- They were at Ground Zero. Running next door would have done nothing to shield them from the debris.
-- The elevator shaft was the strongest structure in the building and their best (and only) hope of protection from falling debris.
-- *They had no time.*
From what I read, that's how it went down in real life - the scene with them running for the Tower 2 shaft was exactly how the survivors described it after they were rescued.
I can't imagine how hopeless it would feel to be under God knows how much rubble and unsure if anyone will ever find you. It's crazy that after all that, John is 70 now and still alive.

Firefighters are so unbelievably brave.
These are police officers
Yeah, there were thousands of firefighters there that day. I can’t imagine how many of them thought that they would probably not get out of alive. Also, if you haven’t seen the movie, the main characters on the screen John Mcloughin (Cage), Will Jimeno (Pena), and the others aren’t firefighters, but actually Port Authority Police Officers. What’s unique about the PAPD is unlike other police departments, they are crosstrained in firefighting. They have the same special protective uniforms firefighters have. The real life Will Jimeno described their look saying “We basically looked like firefighters now, except we have utility belts on our waist.” If you look closely to the helmets being worn, the badge says NY Port Authority Police, instead of the FDNY badge.

They probably had no idea what happened, a guess that it collapsed but as far as they knew, it could've been another attack.
That’s exactly what they thought John actually said in an interview he thought it was a car bomb like the one in 93 because in the Middle East when they attack they wait for first responders to go in and then attack again

What was the purpose for running for the elevator shaft? Just curious
Elevator shafts and stairwells are the strongest part of a building if they are made properly. In the event of a building collapsing your best chance of survival would be to get in a stairwell or near the elevators, if you even have enough time to process the building collapsing and run to one of these.
Most of the buildings didn’t have a solid concrete core. Only the first ten stories were the elevator shafts were. They made them so cheap and quick to build.
@@map3384 they maybe built them "cheap" but they were over engineered and shouldn't have collapsed in such a manner.

Illegal immigrants are treated like fucking royalty while 30 year olds like myself or older are hardly making ends meet, it's almost $100 for gas, +200 or more for groceries, car insurance in almost a grand, renters the same, the economy is the worst it's been since the 1930's.....
I don't get this scene. Were these guys supposed to be in the north tower? Cuz the north tower stood for another half hour after the south tower collapse.
Sgt. McLoughlin was ordered to help evacuate Tower 1 but needed more fire equipment. Given the conditions upstairs, these tanks will last 15-30 minutes tops, probably less. The more tanks, the better.
In Virginia, firefighters had to take quick shifts at the Pentagon because their tanks could only last 10 minutes in those harsh conditions. Imagine if firefighters reached the top of the North Tower. Conditions were much worse in New York.

Then you should watch it, it told the story
It was hyped up for hollywood
The movie is pointed to the firefighters who were trapped…
Perhaps it's somewhat disrespectful to the victims. But, an argument can be made that the entire purpose of art - is to help people cope with the most horrific things in life. Film is a form of art. In Social Studies, people write thesis on whether or not Art is a human need.
So while the motivation to produce the film may be money, the filmmakers themselves are employed in helping people cope.
I asked and asked and asked what was going on and what happened when 9-11 happened. NOBODY would explain it to me. Nobody. How sad this scene is but it is not accurate, they were not in the lobby of the Tower they were in the underground mall debris was not flying into the underground mall and when they finally excavated down to the mall it was all still there debris had not even touched it I know the scene is very emotional but it is not accurate.
…If you pay attention he says “This is 8-1 we are in the CONCOURSE”…Concourse was another term the used for the underground mall.
And yes. IT DID impact the mall because it is directly located under both towers one and two as well as the Marriott Hotel that connected to one and two.
When the south tower collapsed it took down the Hotel building and anything beneath it buckled and collapsed.
The sheer FORCE of the collapse sent a forceful like shockwave the blew anything and everything in its path away like a sheet of thin paper.
Don’t believe me? Look it up. There are TONS of survivor testimonies stating they were in the lobby of tower one or in buildings close by during the collapse. And that when the debris hit the ground there was such a strong force behind it that it alone knocked them off of their feet and pushed them over.
Argue all you want but that’s testimony. And it’s the facts.
This film is based on THEIR experience and where they were. You can’t say this is not accurate when you don’t have facts.

That is not the south towers lobby. They are in the middle of the north and south there was a shopping mall under both of the towers in the middle. And when the cleanup crew finally reached it it was untouched.

Try finding "experts" discussing the distribution of steel down the North Tower.
Search the $20,000,000 NCSTAR1 report by the NIST.
The Laws of Physics have taken a hike since 9/11!
You cannot even find the weight of steel and concrete below ground level versus above. There were 70 ft of 6 basement levels that had to support everything above ground. So when we are told the total weight of the building does that include the basements or not?

You think inertia only works from the top down? The stationary mass had inertia too and it was the greater mass. And it had to get stronger all of the way down to support the static load. @@accioyoongi
Yeah, you are just dishing out psychological BS not information. The NIST can't even specify the total amount of concrete in the towers with their $16 million dollar report on the towers. I downloaded and burned it to DVD in 2007. I have searched it dozens of times. Where was the center of gravity of the tilted top of the South Tower? The NIST admits that it tilted 20 to 25 degrees.
@@accioyoongiyou can’t refute what he said, so instead you insult him. you normies are in for a shock one day.
@psikeyhackr6914 The top portion of the south tower did tilt. No one else refutes that. It stopped tilting towards the east once the west wall snapped, causing the tower to lose the hinge which aided the list. The west wall acted as such until it was bent far beyond it's structural capabilities and snapped, and the top section fell at an angle. FYI, the mass below the collapse may have been greater, but when a mass is falling, it gathers kinetic energy which increases the destructive force of the upper section. Momentum is what caused the upper floors to destroy the lower floors. This is basic physics pal. Stop playing dumb.

The fact that the buildings fell straight down and the undamaged parts fell with the tops show that 9/11 was at least partially a controlled demolition
Take the tin foil off your head. The force of the plane plus the 30,000 gallons of jet fuel caused the team beams to buckle, and then the upper floors pancaked. FYI, the force of the plane was maybe 150 times more powerful than any controlled demolition, in fact outside of the two atomic bombs during WW2, the force of the two planes was 20x more powerful than any bombs dropped during WW2.
