christopher tin is my choral crush
no, he's ours, too.
Me too !
I was at the world premier of this piece at Carnegie Hall a few years back. It is still to this day, the greatest performance I've ever attended.

@@moonlightbunny22 he’s not
Just found this and I keep listening to it over and over again because of how beautiful it is. And Jimmer Bolden (the soloist), has _such_ a beautiful voice!
Sometimes I forget how beautiful human beings can be when they come together. ❤
You echoed my thoughts exactly.
Yup. Co-operation over competition - encore!
@@MazzaEliLi7406 Yes, encore!
@@MazzaEliLi7406
Yes indeed! Beautiful.
That’s the power of music
Love the conductor silently screaming the last BER with em
Silently??? :-)
@@tompw3141 you think he actually sang/shout? honestly dont know, never saw a conductor sing along loudly
@@brooktewolde5775 I've known conductors sing choral parts, yes:-)
Well, the conductor is also the author of this piece, so it probably means something to him. He is singing with them almost the whole time.
@@Wesley_Peter_Redmond im happy if he feels so deep that he sings, his shout his own music! Frenetic, happy music!
I love this guy. An Asian man, composing music in an African music, sung by people of all ethnicities. It always makes me proud to be human, and hopeful for the future of humanity that such beauty can come from our unity.
❤
From “big” to “absolutely humongous” love it
honestly, that's what made me smile
Those were the kinds of directions I loved seeing back when I was a choral member. It gave such life to the piece from the composer
Well yea she's a bigger girl. But fat shaming is not okay.
@@PyfeTweesenHuh? They're talking about the directions on the sheet of music.
this mans voice.. it is an angels voice, I can't help but smile with teary eyes, so much power in his voice.
Yes! OMG even your comment makes me well up. It’s just pure joy!!!
Your comment made me cry as well! So much emotion in this piece but his voice sends chills up my spine!
beautiful
that is so lovely! I keep returning to this song@@dronelayer
You truly feel the joy and love through their voices, such an incredible thing to experience.
1:40 Always get goosebumps watching Jimmer Bolden singing his heart out (it's even more striking when you see his body language -behind the transcription).
YESSS YOU CAN TELL WHEN HE"S MODULATED BY LOOKING AT HIS BODY
@@confushisushi what is this song called?
@@kaylaherrera4544 If you look up Christopher Tin it's there, but just as he links the full vid in this description it's "Waloyo Yamoni"
Yeah, he went from this bright trumpet to the biggest baddest trombone around. I’m sure he felt it in his whole body, all the resonance freely ringing.
Hey how are you doing now
The mutual smile between conductor and singer/musician is such a deep joy. You can almost see their thoughts.
Yes, almost. But you can't see them.
😢😂😅t😢😢4
I have been going through a rough time. While trying to feel better, I realised that I mostly knew bands playing "dark" moody music. So, in a time where I have needed some powerful joyful music, this video appeared. Thank you so much for sharing!
I get what you mean. Dark music can be relatable but in our darkest moments, we need something joyful and uplifting to remind us of the beauty in life. I hope you feel better soon. 💛
@@LimewirePirate thank you for sharing good vibes 🙏
I’m an older lady, but i find the very best music is timeless. The only difference is HiFi Stereo-phonics and zero distortion played through wooden speakers holding tweeters, woofers and subwoofers. 3 1/2’ tall. Procal Harem, Yes, Moody Blues it gets you to a better place and late for school, because I was, and I was honest about it. FM; King Biscuit Flower Hour; or was it Flour? Any way it was nation wide. There is a saying, “music soothes the savage soul”. And this is how it works.☀️🌾🖖🏼
Absolute same. I regularly struggle with depressive episodes and at some point had lost all joy in music. Luckily I have regained that emotion since. Funnily enough. Happy music often makes me cry, but that really helps me connect with my feelings.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I wish you all the best my friend.
@@Benisuber1 Haha! Amazing! George's annotations on the sheet music are also fantastic!
0:33 that percussionist just makes me so happy. The focus and the flourish. In those few seconds he gave me serotonin
This song is about calling the rain. I was singing this with my partner on the balcony one day and IT ACTUALLY STARTED RAINING! It was amazing. I want to sing this with my choir so badly.
Hey sorry but can you hold off on your rain singing magic please. I'm in the west and the floods are coming because of too much rain and snow
@@michaelbarker6460 my bad. ^_^ Be safe!
@@michaelbarker6460 Go on your balcony and sing "here comes the sun, little darling"
Hey, quick question. What language is that?
@@MeanGreenMotherFrom From what I could find it is in Lango, mainly spoken in South Sudan.
0:12 This man's voice is incredible. I have chills everywhere.
Yes, you do! Everywhere!
Can we just take a second and talk about how AMAZING the male and female lead vocalists are. His voice going from so delicate and almost not audible to booming and so powerful and deep…and the lady whose powerful voice you can feel as you hear and see the power going into producing those notes. 👏😇💗❣️
0:30 gives me chills. Hauntingly beautiful
This is to be heard in headphones while flying, as the plane emerges from the storm and clouds, and you can see the sun in the distance through the window.
What a lovely comment ❤☮️
Flying kills the planet
You should try climbing a mountain when there's a sea of clouds. Emerging from those is even more pretty than your shitty metal tube of environmental destruction
@@letoatreides5165 Maybe. But relatively few have the opportunity and/or the ability to do that.
I love this on any sound system, and blasting it on a 7.1 is my fav
The directions on the tail end of the score:
"ABSOLUTELY HUMONGOUS!"
Gotta love it!
Christopher Tin also wrote the themes for the Civilization video games, and all of the themes are really epic. The theme for Civilization IV, "Baba Yetu", has The Lord's Prayer in Kiswahili for its lyrics, and was also the first video game soundtrack to win a Grammy. Really impressive composer all around
My gamer symphony orchestra performed Baba Yetu, and because of illness, I had to step in at the last minute to be the soloist for it. I've been singing in church choirs for nearly 40 years now and I've never had a piece move me as much as that did. Even when I performed it, I cried during the bridge, because I described the solo part during it as the closest thing to "the Spirit moving me". We did it a second time with the original soloist doing his part and both I and the alto soloist got even MORE emotional from it. That song just has a power to it that I can't put into words.
Couldn't agree more... powerful and uplifting. Thank you all involved. More...more...
Went to a university concert focused on video game music, it was great. Some Zelda I think, and others
@@pattyamato8758 There's a number of Gamer Symphony Orchestras/Video Game Orchestras around the world, some of which are college/university-oriented. I think the University of Maryland is one. But a number of others (like mine) are just community orchestras with non-professionals that get together out of their love for music and video games.
Thanks for the info, interesting facts!
I just love this, the singer, and words. I love African music. One can connect with it as Africa is the Seat of Civilization. All people come from there and we all have some measure of African genes in us. Proud of the little I have. 😊
The contrast of him singing the more softer tines and then going up to eleven is just awe inspiring, of all of Christopher tins works, this one gets me the most enjoyment 🎉😊
The also soloist smiling and grooving at the awesomeness at 1:25 is what got me.
*alto (stupid autocorrect)
I agree! Also her expression, her chromaticism, her everything from 1:49 onwards. Brings tears to my eyes, this emotion.
@@kindnessasgreatasthesea1158 I totally agree
I like when conductors act like they're part of the music. To me, it shows passion and enjoyment.
He's also the composer, so he truly is part of the music.
This immediately made me think of Baba Yetu from Civilization IV and lo and behold, same composer!
Incredible composition, and the passion Mr. Tin has while conducting is stunning. Look at him at 2:13!!
I had the exact same thought!
Bro same!
last but not least the sogno di volare from Civ VI
Goodness, taking me back 😂 I sang Baba Yetu for district, best year of my whole life
I am pretty sure they performed Baba Yetu at this very concert.
This performance is amazing. Yes, I am smiling. I love the African rhythm and his staccato singing. SO joyful. The choir and instrumentation were stellar.
For some reason, this really reminded me of the final scene from The Lion King, or just most ending scenes in Disney Movies. What a great piece of music.
`same, or something like the ending to black panther
I think it’s better.
Or after a really good bathroom break. Start bumping this shit after your bowels are cleared and it literally is the peak human experience 😁
@@michaelbarker6460 …do you kiss your mother with that mouth?
Part of the reasons that people like Disney films is that they have roots in great operas, Shakespeare, even Greek dramas. So, yes it does. Thanks for pointing that out
When someone tells you that you're just a singer and you're just in choir, you laugh and remember that the voice has this type of power and feeling that no other instrument has.

Its very lovely how many conductors can express the song
JImmer Bolden's vocal technique is masterful.
1:05 That tenor lick was smooth, clean and rich
Magical sound
1:11 noticed the vocal strength there😮 the clarity is top notch! I can easily listen to it every day.

It absolutely warms my heart to see you feature this song!!! It's been such a fave of mine and you're right -- you can't not smile. Christopher Tin is a wizard and the soloists absolutely NAIL it.

So this soprano is absolutely fantastic! She is totally in for a team effort and carries the whole so beautifully. I hope to hear her in many demanding productions, she will not disappoint - she is so great!
She's an alto/mezzo, but otherwise agreed.
@@acelibrarianThanks a lot! She has an amazing range, then, and very soft, clear highest notes! Love her voice, and also her sweet smile! I should have rahter said she lifts the performance up!
Agreed- she's an operatic contralto.
She could probably sing tenor if she wanted. The highest notes she sings are mid-range for a soprano. Beautiful voice.
@@brandywineblogger1411 Wonderful voice, whatever range she sings, indeed! How much does her range overlap with the tenor's voice range in this composition - the notes shown varied between G-clave and F-clave and I got confused - please, help! Thanks in advance! 🎶🙂
@@DNA350ppm Even though I have a M.Mus. it was from the dark ages and has been a few years since I've conducted or have sung seriously.
The tenor and alto voices can share almost an octave depending on the singers, although not generally in formal octavo/ choral music. The difference is in the timbre or quality of the voices.
The voice is a magnificent instrument.
Oh my, this lifted me up this Sunday morning. My car is in the shop, so I can't get to Mass. Watched Mass on my tablet and then saw and heard this wonderfulness!!!! Happy Advent to all. He is coming to save us. Amen.

Yes, just got me a refresher from this beautiful rendition. It doesn’t get old.
My school's top ensembles just performed this a few weeks ago, one of my friends being the vocal soloist, was one of the best performances I've ever been to
What piece is it?
@@M_SC it's called "Waloyo Yamoni" by Christopher Tin. there's a link to the original video in the description.
The absolute best way of spending two minutes on RUclips! I could hit the "replay" arrow all afternoon, close my eyes and simply absorb the joy this music and all those beautiful musicians give! Most especially now. . .drowning out the cacophony of politics, religion, hate, and war. Thank you so very much for sharing!!
I have never heard this before but i was smiling in seconds. This is delightful! Absolutely beautiful. will need to look up other pieces by this composer. Great performance
Thank you for including the link to the original video where I could view the whole performance. The soloists, choir and orchestra are even more impressive! Also, I was curious about the lyrics, and the info with the original video provided the lyrics with an English translation, which was great. Also, from one of the comments I learned the language is spoken in Uganda, which I appreciated knowing.
Such a beautiful song; I am so glad to have experienced it through this performance!
A rain song that made my heart thunder and my eyes pour with sudden outbursts 😅of my own eye rain. Amazing.
Christopher Tin is an absolute legend! His masterness of the chorale technique is quite impeccable. One of his best along with Baba Yetu.

That man had some PIPES on him.....!! 😳😳😳😍😍😍🙏🙏🙏 Absolutely stunning!!
Made me cry, so beautiful
I think this video proves that we are all connected regardless of our background. We can just listen to this and immediately feel some kind of way...without putting any of these people who are singing in categories/affiliations/life situations.
We are all connected. Love your neighbor. Love life. Love the connectedness we have.
Start by getting along with all of your own family members. And I do mean ALL of them! Can anyone here who reads these words claim to be doing that? It is always easier to admire strangers and get along with people you barely know.
