Back in high school, I used to use an iPod. Organizing the album art covers was quite a hassle, but it was fun at the time. Seeing you making good use of the iPod brings back memories of my high school days.
So... as a 31 year old I was trying to figure out if maybe getting an iPod at this time would help me keep away from my phone. Looking at you being so excited about your iPod and seeing you decorate it makes me excited to try and find one in the wild too! :)

I fixed up my dads ipod 5th gen via battery replacement. If you load rockbox firmware onto it it essentially acts as a good DAP. Loaded a bunch of .flac files onto it and it becomes a portable audiophile player. I really appreciate how you own your actual songs, without the clutter of getting a bunch of cds.
i also use one of these! i thrifted mine for $15 and even though it's extremely busted up (screen is cracked and backlight doesn't work, it's scratched to hell, and the battery life sucks) i still love it!!! i've almost filled up the 30GB hard drive, full of 2000s pop, R&B, jazz, rock, and even a bit of country!! i regularly use a flip-phone so it's my lifee lineee lol
aliexpress has new housings you can get, I have a rose gold backing and black front on the way and I'm also doing an "iflash" mod to replace the harddrive and get even more storage

Thank you, for this fun and enjoyable post about your iPad classic 5th generation. In 2014, I picked-up a used version of the same iPad classic model. Also, I have been using mine daily ever since and my only repair has been for a battery replacement (smile...smile).
I heard that if you have some CDs lying around you can legally rip the songs off of them and into your iTunes library. That’s what I plan on doing with mine once I get it 😄
Husband fixed mine up and bought an old Bose speaker that had a iPod dock and Remote control. Bless him, without the speaker I would hardly ever be using my old iPod. When I leave the house listen to my same favorite music on my Apple Watch via AirPods but at home. the Speaker sounds so much better than tiny in ear devices can ever physically hope to match. Since it's always docked, never have to worry about batter life.
Its like when I use a kindle in 2023 instead of a tablet or phone? Or how I read physical books? Or Using a pocket watch? Idk, but old tech is exciting.

Calling the iPod 5th gen “retro” is a bit questionable, but the enthusiasm is perfectly justified. You can’t beat the feeling of having an iPod whirr in your hand as the hard drive works its magic of playing music
real! i don't intend on loading more than a goo chunk of songs though, and I find that doesn't take up too much space. I've seen some huge moded ones before and a lot of times people use it for games and movies

This is hilariously cute. Planning songs on paper? OMG. :D But iPods are amazing. Just found my old 7 gen iPod nano again after years and can't believe how tiny they are. Plus they actually have bluetooth. Found many long forgotten songs, mixes and playlists that I downloaded from somewhere. Reminded me so much that actually not all stuff is on Spotify or how quickly it can disappear. I'm so frustrated they completely discontinued iPods … But lets hope ours keep working for a while. I bought myself the same model of the iPod touch 4th generation, the same one I had as a pre-teen. I have a Spotify playlist of all my childhood/early teen songs on it! And I refuse to put newer music on it (at least for now) 🩷
i used to use youtube to mp3 all the time and manually insert tags. but the audio quality wasn't the greatest and it's time consuming to tag. there's various services that rip from spotify and other streaming platforms. it's just way faster than manually doing it lol

Not that this is legally a recommendation, but Soul Seek will give you better quality and it'll be easier to get songs. Most of the time you won't have to edit the songs ;)
I just want to say that the whole process would have been 10x easier if you downloaded the versions with the metadata already in it so you don't have to edit each individual song like that xD
Honestly I just screen shot them and I was expecting them to look worse. However, I would say that downloading a png off the internet somewhere, possibly internet archive would be the best way to maintain quality. Look for images with high pixels like 800 x 800 should look ok. Thanks for watching!

yOu can do this with a spotify to mp3 converter, it keeps the album artwork the year the artist names so you don't have to type it in yourself

For me I just grab them off wikipedia. For more niche albums I would go to a place like discogs.

Mine is only 30! Songs take up very little space, the only way I would upgrade storage would be if you wanted other movies or shows on there.
