Just read an article about him talking about performing this song is a nightmare. Now that i watch him do it, I'm so impressed that he pulls off all the memorization of all these events.
Just remember that Billy Joel is no normal human being, he's a genius creator with a brain that is not like yours or mine. It's capable of amazing feats of memorization and creativity
This is one of my (MANY) favorite songs! It’s always amazed me that he’s been able to pull it off so many times. What a bunch of words! At this point in time it’s just wonderful to see old videos like this. Love it!❤
For everyone saying he looks extremely bored. 1. He doesn't really like this song, this is because he had to write the lyrics first before writing the music, it's usually done the other way around for him. 2. The odd look on his face is just him trying to focus, id imagine trying to remember all the events in order would be a pain in the ass and difficult to do. Even though he has done it before, it's a bombardment of different events that he has to put in the right order at the write time.
JakeMac not just that, he got divorced from Christie Brinkley in early 94 which was months before this show in Germany. Him and his band have toured constantly since September 1993, so they all look exhausted throughout this show
@@danielhartin7680 yes it’s crazy. A modern classic. Such a great idea. Superb. I remember it as a kid but I’ve recently returned to it and what it means.
Stephen Chase well, he’s not actually playing. He reveals in interviews that whenever you see him play guitar, you don’t hear him, his sound guy mutes the guitar
@@willthetrill4849 Humm...I Never Knew That...I wonder if he was joking in the interview...Because he's definitely playing Chords throughout the song..I can't imagine why he wouldn't let it Ring

He's already said when asked about writing a follow-up: "No, I wrote one song already and I don't think it was really that good to begin with, melodically."
Whoever disliked it.. good riddance. Probably some young brats that don't appreciate talent that wasn't in their time. He has a huge number of people at his concert.
I'm seeing Billy Joel in December since he's coming to Australia for one concert and I hope he sings this, that and Piano man would make it an awesome day!
i wish i could do more for mr billy joel for this genius song and all the other stuff he did than just hit like on this stupid app- this man carried the truth and it aint going away!
God is he good. You don’t have to only be talented to make this song you also have to be very intelligent. To know all of the world affairs of the past and making a song about it, and know the exact order by heart. Probably list off 100+ events in this song. No modern artists compares, and not even many throughout history. 1980s was honestly a perfect storm of a bunch of talented artist and i can only hope it happens again.
3:47 after realizing that he went off key he returns the favor by additional killer harmonies which makes the audience forget about that fiasko before it and have some chills down their spines, what a great musician indeed
Mr. Billy Joel, what makes me love your "We Didn't Start The Fire" song is the events that I learned from my history books and old footages, including one of my favorite game shows (at 3:34), "Wheel Of Fortune". I love it! Imagine you host the show and spin the wheel of fortune with Vanna White instead of Ryan Seacrest after Pat Sajak's departure and what would Merv Griffin think about it? Even better! Love from Vietnam.

When I saw him later on the tour, he said that Don Henley had bet him that he couldn't pull off doing the song live.

Great idea. Just like they use. The song staying alive for CPR
Totally agree. I love this song. Im 50 year old. Billy Joel👍
I didn't appreciate the background of this song as a child but the more I listened as a teenager, I realised more and more that it's a history lesson.
One can only imagine the adrenalin pumping through the band members while performing this masterpiece.
I'd have a nervous breakdown up there!!!!

It’s so fucking weird that people like you care about cellphones. It’s not hurting anyone if someone else chooses to record a concert lmao

Ah so that's why he seemed dead inside whilst singing it on Weird Al's show
