Joe Rogan watches an old video of him competing in Tae Kwon Do with Hannibal Buress. Taken from Joe Rogan Experience #1005. • Joe Rogan Experience #...
He's right though, when it comes to serious TKD kicks.... I saw it many times....when the serious guys, with serious power come....it's like letting a semi hit you and thinking this chest protector will stop it! :-)
It really is worth pointing it, movies and other media always make it seem like you just go to sleep for a bit and then when you wake up you're fine again.
I trained in Tae Kwon Do for more than twice the amount of time that Joe did and barely got to my brown belt. Joe’s technique, quickness and timing is phenomenal. Especially his counter back kick (the kick that knocked his opponent out in tournament). I’ve seen him fold heavy bags with it. So yes, Joe is extremely well versed and experienced in martial arts. Much respect to his humility around it.
@@grismor1884 Yes, I am absolutely positive I trained in Tae Kwon Do (for more than 6 years). I think you’re confusing the different Tae Kwon Do federations. In WTF (World Tae Kwon Do Federation) the brown belt comes prior to receiving your black belt. In ITF (International Tae Kwon Do Federation) they use a red belt instead of a brown belt. I obviously trained in WTF. Just Google it. You should be sure of your information prior to challenging my truthfulness. Have a great weekend.
@@brianshickey I practiced TKD under WTF for 8 years (almost 30 yeas ago) and I am 100% sure belts order went: white, yellow, green, blue, brown, red, black.
I believe you and will agree with the comment before yours. In the Montreal area, almost all WTF schools used the white, yellow, green, blue, brown, black belt colouring system. Brown belts tended to train for a very long time before being tested for their black belts. I know that some US schools used the red belt prior to black but in the WTF system that I trained under, red didn’t exist.
That whole “pretend like it’s what you’re gonna do to everyone” shit is so real when you’re in tournaments. Never celebrate your win, act like you were supposed to get to the championship bout the whole time.
Joe is an inspiration he has lived such an incredible life being comfortable in his own skin picking up hobbies not exactly thinking of money just finding things he enjoys like tae Kwon do, stand up comedy, UFC commentary, hunting, podcasts then in the end money is abundant and he's still just happily doing the things he loves. You guys can call him dumb if you want but actions speak louder than words... he's talking a lot and it may sound dumb to you guys but look at how his life has played out... he's learned how to fight so well, but he's never actually competed so he never suffered the negative long term effects of fighting, so he's just ready for whatever whenever. And he's rich. Smart, smart dude.
Joe's body is going to be a mess in a matter of years. The arthritis from BJJ & ill effects of drugs & testosterone powder will eventually kick in and leave him couchbound.
I used to not be able to STAND you Joe! But now you’re one of my absolute favorite people to watch on RUclips. I know my opinion doesn’t matter much but I really appreciate you man!
It wasn't drugs, lmfao. When you're a child you might not understand this but you have a VERY good chance of losing your hair when you grow up. It's called male pattern baldness and it's coming for you, rofl.
Joes kicks are so powerful and he was so good at tae kwon do, I wonder who defeated him in that final match at the end makes you wonder. He must have been a true beast to defeat rogan.
Well my first Joe Rogan experience was Fear Factor and even before I knew you were a good fighter I used to say. This guy could probably wreck anyone who screws with him it was about a year later I found out your background and have been amazed since!. Stay great sir and I thank you for your time and effort in putting these great podcasts together. You're a beast Joe never forget that lol.
The things these guys learn is so deadly when it hits perfectly. I think all men need to learn how to fight a little if that MMA or boxing because you just don't know who you come up against. Don't underestimate no one these days.
Thing is, even if you train your ass off, people can still beat you. Better to just wear a suicide vest, threaten everyone around you with a giant explosion and shrapnel. And carry a gun for the people even crazier than you. Also shoot first, at everyone you see.
That's funny. I started Taekwondo in 87 when I was 11 years old. I was in it for 11 years. When I got in my teens I started going to turnnaments, know the feeling. We fought a tournament on wet grass one time. It was so fucken slippery. I guess it was good for teaching you balance in a different environment. It was tough but had fun doing it.
I used to do TKD when I was a kid, and those torso protectors are actually pretty hefty. They take quite a bit out of blows to the body... which makes this kick even more terrifying.
I used to do karate late 80s to mid 2000s, and I lost the count about heads bouncing on the floor, actually, in the first championship that I attended, a guy from my category was kicked in the face and fell, his head BOUNCED about 3ft from me, and he starts to shaking, unconscious. I was 12 at the time... lol And I was the next on the line to fight.
haha love it! i use to compete in these TKD tournaments. Cement and hardwood floors! You could kick to the head but no punching, which makes no sense, but the knockout rate was pretty high for sure.
I was doing a lot of tournaments during the late 80s as well, they were almost always on a basketball/gym court no matter if it was a small one or the AAU National Championships or Canadian Internationals. I'm 8yrs younger than Joe so I was too young for the full contact, although I was in Karate and I didn't do any competitions with head gear or chest gear...I think that's a TKD thing even for full contact we never had those pads...just foot and hand.
Great 👍🏼 one - I have the same background from the late 80’s - tournaments on basketball courts. Fight before my first one, guy kicked with a high roundhouse, out in his feet, hits back of head on hard wood floor (with full headgear on), starts convulsing, still convulsing when ambulance takes him away - ref looks at me & says, “Next!”
I boxed, kickboxed, did kyokushin karate tournaments and this move, the spinning back kick, was my bread and butter. Launched a few people like this. In boxing, it was my straight right. Fought in the 80’s like Joe. It was brutal back then...we didn’t know any better.
I remember he once said that he felt weird celebrating after knocking someone out which is why he decided to do the walk off instead. I think hes just a good guy with a conscience.
I've seen other guys say they don't want to hurt their opponent, which sounds odd at first. I figure they mean hurt them enough to win, but not do serious damage. Of course, I've also seen guys that don't give a shit.
