7:30 the japanese drive on the left because they asked the british to help them build / create their transportation sector.
For the same reason all the older doctors can speak german (bc they asked a german to teach them medicin.)
I dont think they "ask" probably they sent their students to the countries they thought were more specialized in each matter. Back then England for civil engineering and Germany for chemicals. And when the students returned they taught to the others.
@@velzaresp8623is England still known for civil engineering? Or perhaps it made to sense to borrow from Britain seeing as it was also an island with limited space.
@@Sceptonic I mean during Meiji era and first decades of XX century.
@@velzaresp8623 dang England fell off then. Germany still makes chemicals
I find it interesting that the former British colonies in Africa often share trends such as the side of the road they drive on
…along with Mozambique, who’s just happy to be here.
I can agree because I live in Kenya and its very easy to notice that a lot of things were borrowed from the british (like the education system and the side of the road)

0:23 There are 2 types of hemp : the one you can smoke the leaves and the one you use to make ropes and clothes.
It's eaten as food as well.
You neither smoke the leaves or make ropes of the leaves on either plant lol. You smoke the bud on one and make rope from the stem on the other.
3:57 it might actually fly better than any of the newer Boeing aircraft coming off the line 👀
Countries with mixed road direction doing mad multi-road, multitrack drifting everywhere sounds incredibly dangerous but increadibly awesome at the same time.

Cost of living is probably pulling a lot of weight on their calculations. Or whoever was doing it hates spiders.
The Netherlands and their colony used to ride their cart and horses on the left.. and then napoleon beat them up enough that they now drive one the right.
Their colonies however end up differently. I think it has something to do with how the dutch colonized. There is a video explaining why Indonesian doesn’t speak dutch… same reasoning.
Maybe the British occupation caused this, you know.
@@Kaisermormof9646 caused what?
7:28 it's because the British helped them develop their railway and so they got used to being on that side
Driving on the left was the norm.
During medieval times horses rode on the left so that you have your Strong hand free to pull your sword if someone was approaching you on the road.
Napoleon then had his armies march on the right side of the road and exported that idea to places he conquered. The English kept to the left side as they wouldn't use a french system
Who is that in your profile picture?

Damn! Those southern Europeans stay for long with their parents. I'll turn 32 in september, I just can't imagine myself living with my parents at this age. I moved out when I was 17.
Edit: I'm from Finland
Our homes are usually multigenerational, especially in the villages or outside of cities. So people actually don't leave, they stay and inherent the property.
I'm brazilian, usually we stay at our parents home until we get married. Once you get married, it's implied that you should have a place of your own.
Living alone increases the chances of developing depression and countless other mental disorders.
We punish criminals in prison with being alone (isolation cells), i honestly don’t understand why anyone would do that to themselves.
Unless you move in with your girlfriend, it’s financially and emotionally the smarter decision to stay with the parents (unless you have a bad relationship with the parents, obviously)
@@Im.European I moved out because I was studying in a vocational college in Mikkeli, and my father lived in Anttola, and mother in Siilinjärvi. So instead of 180km or 40km, I lived 4km from school.
7:43 its actually cause the british helped japan build trains and the british buult them on the left side and so the hapanese also made theyre roads in the left side not because of samurai

" in 2019, [a Gallup survey found that] 40 percent of US adults held the view that "God created [human beings] in their present form within roughly the past 10,000 years."
I guess a lot of Americans (mostly conservatives) are creationist, despite public school teaching evolution pretty well, because it's way more widespread in the culture. A lot of other western countries don't have as many practicing religious people.

That individualist family type is why Northern Europe is more successful compared to Southern Europe
@@Sceptonic I really wouldn't say that's why.
We have a mental health crisis, and I'd say that disconnected family structures and individualism don't help. It just creates loneliness and struggle.

8:35 It's almost always a "crappy economy" thing, where young adults systematically struggle to find jobs that pay enough that they can actually afford to rent their own instead of continuing to live for free at a residence their parents own. The cultural shifts come after, when that economic reality becomes so common that nobody can really judge anyone for that.

if memory serves correctly, the reason why they drive on the left is coz most people are dominantly right handed. so if something ever were to happen, they could draw their sword and be able to go straight into combat. now the reason why people drive on the right is coz of stick shift and the right hand being most peoples dominant hand. or who knows, maybe all of that is another myth

I mean the humans coexisting with dinosaurs has come full circle as birds are descendents of non avian dinosaurs, and therefore are dinosaurs.
But in terms of non avian dinosaurs like T-Rex, yeah they died out long before humans.
In my 34 years in the US, I've never heard someone say humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time. I would bet my life that's not true.
NO POOP JULY
The "cultural thing" about leaving home so late in the Balkans / Southern Europe is that housing is astronomically high and minimum wage is astronomically low. Hope this helps
In the past yeah, it could be associated with family values of all leaving together until the kids get married (sometimes not even then) but this is not really the case anymore. Young people do want to move out and have their own personal space but most of the time it's literally not possible.
I have never been this early to a video
