As a german I would like to point out that ,,Wissenschaft“ is the correct translation for ,,science“. ,,Naturwissenschaft“ is just a specialized field of science for nature.
The same guess for the other Germanic languages as well
As I understand it, the term science is in fact used for what we would call Naturwissenschaft, as opposed to Geisteswissenschaft which would be called humanities or art studies. If I understand it correctly, this part of Wissenschaft would not be considered "science" for an English speaker. Sad Geiwi noises 😢
It's a very archaic term, but English does have "natural philosophy" as a synonym for "science"
I will make Germany great again

About the pineapple thing - in English, "apple" used to refer to any kind of fruit. Narrowing of the meaning to refer to a specific fruit of the genus Malus (i.e. what we nowadays recognise as apples) is a fairly new thing. And pineapples do sort of resemble pinecones.
(Mind you, English isn't alone in this, just consider the French _pomme de terre_ or the Austrian _Erdapfel_ - both of which, when translated literally, mean _apple of the earth_ - and probably other European languages as well.)
But potatoes look at least a little bit like an apple, beeing roughly the same size and roundish and all. A pineapple though...
Here's another strange thing: "Pigna" (pinecone in Italian) is pronounced the same as "Piña" (pineapple in Spanish).
Piña in spanish also means Pinecone.@@qdaniele97

Honestly, the "America laughing at Europe & getting obliterated" is kinda like that new kid in class, who is trying to fit into the long existing dynamics between the rest of the classmates without even trying to learn/understand them and mistakenly assuming that since everybody is criticising/laughing at everybody else, they can laugh at them all too... With the Germanic languages saying 'Naturwissenshaften' and the English saying 'Science' it is because we have a 43% Romantic influence but being a Germanic language too. So other languages are not really weird, the trick to pronouncing them correctly is to perform their accents. I understand it is difficult for Americans as their educational curriculum doesn't span too far from the south coast of Florida.
It's also weird to me that you'd translate science to Naturwissenshaften, because things like psychology, medical studies and technology are not part of that grouping,
So either the English definition of Science is a lot more narrow than expected,
Or a whole bunch of people mistranslated science into nature studies.
7:28
California has a *HUGE,* water thirsty agricultural sector. Agriculture is why California needs so much water. Same thing with the Colorado river water issues.

I love that someone did the meme with Germanic languages. It's getting a bit annoying, seeing the memes comparing German with just Romance languages + English (which received huge influences from French, a Romance language, and Latin, the ancestor of Romance languages).
By the way, the information Drew found is a little inaccurate. While it is true most of the common, day-to-day words in English are Germanic, the more modern, sophisticated, or technical words come from French (mostly Old Norman French) and Latin, and comprise most of the overall English lexicon (about 58 percent in total).
Here's a list of the ones I used in this comment so far (including this sentence) :
Germanic, language(s), annoy, compare, German, just, Romance, receive, huge*, influences, Latin, ancestor, information, inaccurate, common, modern, comprise, percent, total, list, use, comment, include, sentence
(Note : I removed verbal suffixes like "-ing" and "-ed" as these are Germanic)
*While "huge" does come from Old French, it ultimately comes from a Germanic root, which French took from the Franks.
The words "meme", "sophisticated", "technical", and "lexicon" are ultimately of Greek origin. The other ones I didn't list are all Germanic. That includes most grammatical words, like pronouns, articles, prepositions, and conjunctions.
More than anything, it's the grammar of English that truly makes it Germanic. For example, one key thing in English that makes it Germanic is how irregular verbs work : A lot of them use a system called ablaut, which is where the vowel in the middle of the word changes (example : from "sing" to "sang"). This is very characteristic of Germanic languages. It's also important to point out that we can follow the evolution of Modern English from its origins in Old English, which didn't have all the Romance influence yet, and was very clearly Germanic all the way (to the point German speakers today often have a better time understanding it than Modern English speakers).
3:52 bruh you literally seen that meme in that countryhumans video you reacted, Drew.

6:16 fun fact - we have only I think 3 of these speedy bois left - one got wrecked in 2015 and two more last year (and these are just the ones that could not be patched together after their accidents). I think the government is getting tired of spending money on repairs, so it's been decided that when the last speedy bois inevitably get wrecked, this is the end for them.

Wait, are you trying to convince me that Denmark isn’t part of Scandinavia? I’m confused by this meme
German language has half Latin heritage and half Germanic heritage. Also at least our words for pineapple make sense. Naturwissenschaften is an umbrella term for all the different science avenues.
Not all science avenues,
Only nature based sciences,
There's also formal sciences (in my understanding basically the same as theoretical science would be in English),
Social sciences and Technology sciences.

Hold your horses, you're telling me Pat&Mat is an international thing? I thought it was just a Dutch thing where we call them Neighbour&Neighbour
It's actually Czech, from the eighties and nineties.
The Czechoslovak state TV (and, subsequently, the Czech and Slovak ones) had a long tradition of broadcasting a short (10-15 minutes) children's story before the main evening news as a way to give the kids a satisfying end of their day before mum and dad put them in bed and watch the news. It's called Večerníček (roughly translated as "Little Eveninger") and it's broadcast dozens of shows over the years, ranging from live action, claymation, and stop motion to classic animation (and probably 3D nowadays, which I can't really confirm since I stopped watching more than 20 years ago).
"Pat a Mat" (or "...A je to!", roughly "...And it's done!") was one of those shows, and it's been exported all over, likely thanks to the fact that there's no dialogue (same with another popular Večerníček - Krteček, or Little Mole).
You'd be surprised how many shows get dubbed. I constantly get surprised by the origins of series or cartoons I thought were only regional
@so about that "no dialogue part"

Naturwissenshaften : Natur (Nature), Wissen(know/learn/study), Shaften(Work/tools/job)
It's just 3 word combine to make one bid specific and literal word.
So basically English is a germanic language but influenced by French (60 to 70% of English words came from French words).
And French is a latin language infleunced a bit by germanic language, (that's why Spanish, Italian and Portuguese are closer together than with French)
So English do have more germanic words than latin words but only beacause French have some germanic words too.

the aircraft vs boat thing is overlooking that planes can fly across water. And battleships do not counter aircraft very well, they're just very good against other ships. So they'd be useless if the aliens don't have ships.

English is like a soup of languages, the words that are usually used for formal stuff are from latin, and the most commonly used ones come from German? Usually at least, that's how she put it, if I understood correctly lol
