The book describes Amalthea’s hair as being “white as a waterfall” so absolutely no help finding a definite color there, either- waterfalls have tons of different shades. I think your interpretation of her hair color is absolutely lovely and if someone doesn’t like it they can paint their own differently. ❤
This is why I hate going outside of my comfort zone when it comes to characters and kits I don't know much about, I never read the book, then again, I based the design on an illustration from before the movie style was finalized and then took the color schemes from the movie so this is all over the place 😂😅
Correct, I was coming to say this as well. That's why in the movie, it was similar in color to her hair as a unicorn. The color change in the movie occurs as she becomes more human.

@@leonasworkshop Honestly, "white as a waterfall" to me just means the hair is semi-transparent or reflective, like water. And if the sun is shining on a waterfall just right, oranges and yellows are to be expected- that's just the way light works.
I love the way Amalthea looks- the ash-blonde looks great and it contrasts nicely with the purples in the rest of her design. Great work!

I kinda like the idea that Amalthea's hair was white, but as she turned more human and forgot herself, it became more blonde. Y'know, more like a human. And I'd say your beautiful piece just reflects that idea!

I'm really glad your kits sold and as an aspiring hobbyiest for 3D sculpting it's super cool seeing the sculpt go from just being a computer only thing-> 3d-> printing to a real resin cast. I was wondering what company did you use to send your master to get a resin cast back? I'd love to be able to do that with my own 3D sculpts in the future.

Im weeping. This is my FAVORITE movie, even as a grown woman. My dad bought me the book to read and he passed away when i was a little girl. I would have LOVED to have one of these figurines, but i understand that they were on a limited run. I can respect that. You did Lady Amalthea justice. She looks beautiful. OK, Looks like I'm getting a lot of comments of people asking if I'd do another run of the Amalthea kit, I might consider it but it would be completely made to order, meaning that if you don't order it within a specific timeframe, I won't make more and it would be a very limited run, I'm just one person and managing and processing everything and it takes a toll on you in regards to time and effort to pack every single kit and ship it, so it will go as follows:
Price of the kit would be $250 USD
Shipping to the continental US $30 USD
Global international $80 USD.
50% deposit would be required up front, the remaining 50% once the kit is ready to ship.
And as far a delivery, it would take between 6-9 months give or take.
This would only be for the UNPAINTED kit.

the Definition of Trust the Process. You had struggles but the final piece was so so so much more beautiful than anything I expected. The Last Unicorn was my childhood and, not only did you do it justice, you knocked it out of the park.

I am a lifelong Last Unicorn fan, and the final result is breathtaking! Both the model itself and the magic you worked on it ❤❤❤ I gotta admit, I wasn't initially about the blonde hair when I was in the middle of the video 😂 but the final result looks really beautiful and I think adds wonderful contrast to her human form as opposed to her unicorn form. I feel like it underlines her departure from her natural form, and the otherness she felt. And it works great with the color of her robe! I love it so much, beautiful work to both of you ❤❤❤

this kit turned out show stopping, i LOVE how it all came together, and for the hair colour, i feel like ash blonde is a really solid choice, hell i've seen people draw her hair purple! before (and confused said art with deirdre from fire emblem because of it). ash blonde is a reasonable sensible choice and super gorgeous!

I didn't grow up with TLU (it was before my time) but when I did see it, I interpreted her hair as platinum blonde, which is basically what you did. And for a movie as trippy in color scheme as it was, trying to figure out an exact shade is like trying to find the exit in Escher's Relativity. lol

I had the pleasure of seeing The Last Unicorn about 10 years ago in a theater with Peter S Beagle while he was on tour.
One of the things he mentioned was the struggle to regain ownership of the rights for The Last Unicorn from a company he sold it to decades ago.
He was celebrating the upcoming end of their contract and discussed his desire to remake the movie - especially since he had discovered a young female artist whose own skill, style, and depictions of characters and scenes from the Last Unicorn matched EXACTLY what he saw in his mind while writing it.
I’m kicking myself because I cannot remember the artist.
I always think of Amalthea as having platinum blonde hair, but I like your version.
Also, I actually teared up at the end. I've been so looking forward to this video. Thank you 🦄

Honestly the Inconsitencies could be very much explained to her "Becomming more Human". Because she starts off very much "Unicorn colored" (Super-Pale Skin and white Hair) but becomes more "Human colored" (normal-ish pink skin and blondeish Hair).
So your version makes as much sense as if you would have gone with white. Is how she might have looked like if she would have stayed a human, based on how she "colored" through the Film.
And it looks amazing.

love, Love, LOVE!!! This movie came out when I was a little kid and I loved it as much then as I do today (still have a copy on VHS and DVD) and I will be watching this tonight after seeing this! I will admit to some hesitation when you first started on Amalthea's hair, but as with all art, I withheld judgement until it was complete and I am so glad I did as it is perfect for this version of her. Mad kudos to your sculptor, as well. The unicorn version is SO perfect I am actually dumbfounded at the skill this took. Combine that with your natural ability with color and this is a vision of perfection. All I can say to this is, I'm alive...and I am so glad I was to see this.

I wish you didn't put yourself down so much. You're a great artist, and it's a tribute to your skills that you're able to adjust to the limitations your body gives you with none the wiser when viewing the final piece.
I always thought her hair color changed because it was slowly showing the purity of it all. She went from. Unicorn to human so it was pure white at the start and slowly shifted as she started to think more human thoughts. Even towards then end of the movie when she changed back i felt that her hair was not as pure white as it once was.
OMG The last unicorn I remember watching it as a kid and I found the art for the movie was memorizing It was so good the statues you did looked just like the characters from the movie especially the unicorn spot on.
I was so skeptical of the realistic grass when you put it on…then my jaw dropped wow it looks amazing !

(Yeah, I know I’m a week late on seeing this video, but real life, y’know?)
Hey, your work is always incredible. Paint her whatever color you want. I admit I haven't watched the movie in years but I always saw the changing color tones as part of the story. The longer she is in a human body the more human she becomes, including her coloring. As well as the darker the rest of the world becomes since with her gone there would be no more unicorns in the world. No more true magic. It's only when she is a unicorn again and free that real magic and color comes back to the world. At least for a while. Or maybe I just read too much into it.
To be fair to the movie, the scene she referenced in particular for the more blonde tone is a dream sequence the prince has about her in an overly sunset bright toned purposefully done to contrast the grey tones of the world.
The hair in her unicorn form never looks blonde even in bright sunlight when traveling for instance. It stays a white with soft pink shading. Her human version we only see in the storm ridden castle area so coloring is up to interpretation.
@sanzoskitten that makes perfect sense. And it still makes the changing color tones part of the film. Either way the kit is beautiful.

I absolutely adore this garage kit and the originality of it unfortunately I was one of the few who saw the video air on time but was a hair short on being able to acquire one of my very own. As I’m also very fond of and love the last unicorn. I wish more of these could be reproduced, but I also respect as to why it hasn’t been. I still love The Last Unicorn - meeting Peter Beagle was a massive highlight of the few DragonCons I have been to! I admit - I learned to love it through exposure - my sister actually was the one of us who loved the movie and story from the start - I didn’t begin to love it until my teens, when I finally understood more of the concepts.
