  • Here is a trick that I use all of the time when I'm fishing cable down a cable tray. This works great and it saves a ton of time. There are some tools out there that have the same effect that the water bottle has, but this is really nice in a pinch. What do you think?
My channel is really geared towards being a resource for you if you are interested in becoming an apprentice electrician. Check out my content and please reach out with any questions you might have. I’m here to help.

Used a similar trick to fish a line across a vaulted ceiling in a large church. Had a bottle with some sand in the end as a weight and pushed it up on one side using the weight to bend the sticks at the peak and down the other side came out 3ft off my intended target. Love the water bottle trick for even suspended ceiling.

Hard to believe so many people have never heard of this. You don’t need the hole in the top btw. Just make sure whatever you are using for a fish fits in bottle mouthpiece and tape it up.

Only if you want to... at least for the contractor I've been with for awhile. Being in Wisconsin we do alot of paper mill work. And so this contractor kinda specializes in said industry. Taking work in the customers facilities all over the country. But they always ask if id like to "money up" and go. Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't.

Hey do union electrician workers have to travel a lot? Like out of town and stay in hotels? I’m looking to get into the union and have been watching your interview prep videos.

Typically an inside wiremen doesn’t have to travel. You work within your jurisdiction. I’m assuming if you are a union linemen then you might need to travel. I’m a union journeyman out of local 595 and I have never had to travel more than 45 min from home

I have a question for you. Can I become an electrician even if I don't the passion for it? Throughout high school I was always told to figure out what my career should be. And still to this day I don't know. At this point, rather than finding my passion, I'd settle for finding a job that can put a roof over my head.
When I started working for a grocery store as a stock boy last year (my first job at 21), I realize that I much prefer doing labor intensive task (lifting pallets for example) compared to going to college.
Honestly, the only reason I'm considering electrician is solely for the money (and not living with my parents till I'm 40). Is that alright, or should I have a passion for this kind of job?
EDIT: Thank you everyone for the replies. I think when the time comes, I'll give it a shot.

    • @MadElectrician

      Hey Advent!
I totally hear you. I think everyone really wants to find something that they're passionate about. One school of thought it to try things that you think you are interested in, because maybe that will eventually turn into a passion! I knew that I was interested in becoming an electrician before I started, but I didn't know how much I would end up loving it.
I'd say to go for it and give it a chance for at least a few years. That way if you end up loving it, you've already been working towards it for a few years. And if you don't end up loving it or find something else that you really want to do, then at least you gave it a shot and made some great money along the way.
That's my advice. Hope it helps!

@@MadElectrician So I decided I will pursue this career starting next year. I don't want to quit my current job right now, but next, I'll apply to IBEW Local 1547.

I thought the same thing, had a daughter on the way and needed an actual career. Applied to the local 48 and was accepted within a couple months into the Limited Energy field. Figured at worst it’s decent to start out with for a couple of years. Flash forward 3 years later as a journeyman and I love it, never thought it’s a job I would appreciate but I love it
