Superworms for beardies 101
Lets start by talking a little bit about super worms. When dusted with Calcium and vitamins, these guys make a great staple feeder for juvenile beardies all the way up to Adults. They are high in fat and protein so they are especially great for growing dragons. These may look like mealworms at first but they are actually baby supers also known as micro superworms. These have a lot more nutritional value than meal worms and a softer shell making them easy for your beardie to digest. They are quiet, odorless, and very easy to keep in large quantities for an extended period of time.
Its best practice to feed supers one at a time using tongs. We feed them once a day in the morning after the lights have been on for at least an hour and your beardie’s metabolism has time to warm up. Some beardies prefer to eat in the afternoon so don’t get discouraged if your beardie refuses to eat first thing in the morning. You will get an idea of how many worms to feed once your beardie loses interest, this will vary as they grow.
We feed micro supers to our juvenile beardies 3-4 days a week along with a variety of other bugs. Once the dragon is big enough, at least 80 grams, we start feeding regular size super worms 4-5 days per week until they are full grown which can take anywhere from 12 to 18 months. Once full grown we typically feed supers 2-3 days per week or some dragons may stop eating them altogether. Just like humans, dragons like diversity in their diet and some can be picky eaters at times. It’s important to offer a variety of bugs since some dragons simply refuse to eat Supers or may stop at any given time. Always remember to dust your bugs with Calcium D3 mineral on almost every feeding and multi vitamins once or twice a week.
Now that you know a little bit more about Supers, you will need to find a place to purchase them. We have ordered these from many different sites online and rarely ever have a problem. We recommend searching google for superworms and finding the best option for you. The prices are usually competitive and very affordable compared to buying at a pet store. Whether you have one dragon or 10 dragons, it pays to buy and keep supers in large quantities.
Before you get them in you are going to need a container for them to live in. You can use any small to medium sized plastic container with at least 12” in length and 5” high to comfortably keep 1000 adult supers. The more worms you have the larger the container should be. You’re going to fill this container with 2” of wheat bran or ground oatmeal. This is where they live and is also a source of food for them. You can find bags of wheat bran at your local store and online.
Now that you have your container ready and you’ve received your worms, you want to carefully open the box and dump the worms in the container. We recommend doing this inside a larger bin or tub in case any miss the container they won’t run loose. But for the sake of this video we wanted to give you a better look of what to expect when opening the box, it can be tricky to get them all out at times. Make sure you shake out the packing media and open the box’s inside flaps to be sure you got all the worms out. You can dispose the box and any packing media that came with it.
The last step is to give them some food with high water content. We like to use carrots and oranges but most fruits or veggies will do. Simply place any fresh greens or fruit in there and watch it disappear within a couple hours. These guys devour food especially when they are hungry. Its good practice to start feeding them at least every other day, take notice to how much and how frequently they eat to set your own feeding schedule.
When the wheat bran turns to a greyish sand type texture that means they have eaten through it and it needs to be replaced. This usually happens every few months and you can use a siv or strainer to help separate the worms from the bran when replacing it.
Well I think we covered everything for buying and keeping your superworms and as always feel free to send us an email with any questions or visit www.7thgalaxyd...
Yeah I feed them a combo of veggies and super worms
Nice to see a positive and educated video on supers. I am a new beardie owner. Got a surrender juvenile around 8 months. Had him for about 5 weeks. Has a pretty decent diet (wish he liked his green veggies more but we are working on it). Loves his super treats and all I hear is how terrible they are. Thanks for the vid!
To get your beardie to eat there salad you can wiggle you finger in the salad or add more color (fruits or bright vegetables) or you can hand feed the salad to them.
My beardie is 3 years old and I feed her about 8-10 dusted superworms 3 times a week and salad everyday along with fruit every now and then. I spray the salad with multivitamins. She now knows which days she gets worms and will run to the bowl and wait. I give horn worms as treats. When I give her repashy, i use a bug mold to make different bug shapes lol. She gobbles them up. They wont ship dubia roaches to my state and crickets are a headache to take care of. She's a little chonky girl lol but her vet said she is a healthy weight and healthy overall. I let her run all over the house and outside
I'm always hearing how superworms are bad for bearded dragons. I always gut load with veggies in an oatmeal and wheat bran substrate. I also feed my beardie dubias that are gut loaded also. The only problem he doesn't like veggies so I make up a slurry of veggies and fresh greens with his calcium and vitamins. I also make a salad everyday and hope someday he'll eat it.
sounds like you are a great dragon mommy!
People are stupid they actually compare super "WORMS" key word worms! With human food like big Mack's and say they will kill your dragon blah blah blah. Of course anything on excess is bad but me for example I give my guys 5 supers along with thare greens and yes always sprinkled with cal. When I get of work I give them 3 or 4 supers also along with thare greens just no calcium. So ya I give them calcium once EVERY day it's not gonna hurt them. But ya super worms especially if got loaded are fantastic feeders just dont go crazy with them set up a diet and ALWAYS exercise your dragons. Dont just leave em on the danm enclosure all day let em run climb make them work☺☺
Francisco Garcia90 yeah that’s pretty true,if u feed it too much of it.I heard that meal worms have exoskeletons, and u can only feed them as a treat, that what I heard.
One reason your beardie wont eat his vegetables and greens is because it may be a juvenile that needs more bugs but adults eat more greens and vegetables
@@amanchase2025 yes supers and mealworms worms are not a stable they should only be feed as treats.
How many super worms should a feed mine I just got him form a friend he’s like 7 months old
You should not feed supers or mealworms to your dragon only as treats.
Ebay. 17$ i got about 1500 super worms all arrived alive.
Incredible. Thanks 🙏
Thank you for this info. Now I'm more comfortable feeding my BD superworms because I always hear its bad or it can cause impaction.
Fuji Apple That’s what I always heard as well - pet stores always told me that they’re bad for them, but I’ve seen videos online saying that that’s actually a myth. My beardie recently stopped eating crickets and can be picky about eating roaches, so I tend to feed her a lot of super worms. And she’s done great. No problems at all.
Becky Sharieff how’s your beardie now?
I think that super worms are not a stable and I don't like feeding super worms and mealworms to my dragon because yes they do cause impaction. I usually stick to Dubia roaches and other worms but I sometimes do feed them to my dragon as a treat but never a stable.
Allyson Nina as long as you have good temps and healthy conditions it should be a problem
I’m planning on getting a white beardie
Supers are great feeders all my dragons are nice and healthy not one is obese and I feed the supers every day....
Francisco Garcia90 how many do you normally feed yours a day?
Mia Mosko I feed mine 3 to 4 per day with romaine lettuce in its bowl
@@miamosko4651 no more than 6. I learned that the hard way lol
@@jeremiahboomin8625 ya bro that's good. Romain lettuce is ok but I would get collard greens instead it's very healthy for them. Collard greens is the way to go my guy
@@jeremiahboomin8625 you mine as well feed him cardboard if your giving him romaine lettuce.........smh
Can you please make more videos
Went to PetSmart as a last minute food run and got super worms and an employee told me super worms can eat eat through your beardies stomach😂😂
Cee Jayy a lot of pet store employees are not properly educated on the animals and lack experience. Always best to buy from a reputable breeder.
Tell him that he is a idiotic person who needs to get a life.Beardies can live happily 100% on them(but variety is good)
The dragons chew them up very well to where that would never happen
Lmao my beardies crunch the crap out of superworms they aren't even alive when they get to the stomach
Those worms contain lots of fats,
The proportion of protein to fats is to low
Normal is to feed them with worms once a week
Is this a good breeding setup for them?
Any experience with canned super worms??
So all bearded dragons have salmonella in their intestine, and sometimes some of it gets released in their poop? Can someone please explain this to me? Is there something to clean out the salmonella?
year old comment, but its not serious unless you eat the poop. if youre into that ill ship you some ;)
can superworm be refrigerated like mealworms?
No. But it is odd
I am new to this and used quaker oatmeal😯 is that bad? I saw something about mites and now i am all paranoid😕
To make sure that the oatmeal doesn't contain mites put the oatmeal in the microwave for about 10 seconds to kill the mite eggs that may have gotten in. Do this before you put the super worms in.
@@shibetrinidad2854 good tip
Excuse me I know I'm a little late but so I can feed my juvenile supers do you know where to get the proper size
White male with a black beardie and yellow gf
Did you say wheat bran OR ground oats, or what bran AND ground oats??
You can use either or.
My bearded dragon stoped eating super worms. How can I get him ti eat them again?
Super worms are not a stable they should only be feed as treats you can try other worms or dubia roaches works as a stable.
Allyson Nina they actually are a good stable for adults.

Plzz watch this video it is helpful for bearded dragons diet.
Allyson Nina even tho lizard guru is really knowledgeable for bearded dragons you can’t just watch one video you have to do a ton of research. And I have done that and I know for a fact that with a healthy living condition and different types of other bugs that super worms can make a good stable.
@@simeoncocov9373 First I have seen many videos and I have done alot of research but I showed you that video because it shows you what beardies eat.
I need some help, my beardie is well fed but her arms and legs are skinny, she is acting normal but I am worried do you know why? She also doesn’t like greens, any advice to make her eat greens?
Kaiju Fan X my beardy doesn’t eat greens as well. You would probably have better luck by putting worms in with her salad. I always get better luck when I put them in my beardies salad.
Isaiah 48855 thanks but she just picks them out.
Just a thought, have you tried putting a plate of veggies in front and stirring them around to look like its moving?
Will Jamison I’ll try that but right now she is in brumation so I’ll try soon
@@pcuneo4243 did it work?
nice videoo
Thanks!
Love the video just gotta put an Epilepsy warning on those translations 🥴🥴🥴
I keep my supers in old fashioned oatmeal with food for them. Do you think that is ok?
For years I keep Superworms in a layer of oatmeal and throw in the stems of the dark greens that I make my dragons salad from each day (instead of throwing them in the trash) and the Superworms will live healthily for months.
@@classicgamer1968 cool thanks! I appreciate that
I was told to put 2 slices of potato and cut a carrot in half for them... and it works fine for me
@@NoNam3_xLeaderX yeah it's what I ended up doing a couple pieces of sweet potato and carrots and some dandelion greens and they seem great. Thanks for responding
Is it good to feed an adult 4 or 5 each day along with a salad?
Olive Oil I feed mine 3 or 4 of the big super worms per day, and romaine lettuce in its bowl
@@jeremiahboomin8625 don't feed romaine lettuce, it has no nutritional value! some staple greens are collard greens, mustard greens, or turnip greens.
jordan nicole my dragon is very healthy tho lol
So its safe to feed Bearded dragons super worms everyday? Cuz im planning to feed my them superworms as a regular routine.
It's ok to feed Superworms to juveniles but only in limited amounts like 3 to 7 per day or 3 times a week.
No it's not safe to feed supers daily it can cause your beardie impaction and other health issues.
What veggies and greens are best for my Beardie to eat?
Sorry it’s late but collard greens with calcium powder with d3
I don't feel that supers make a good staple feeder.
My bearded dragon hates superworms and mealworms 👎👎💔
The LIL_Gamer same with mine
Your beardie sucks
