About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

Your mother is a machine she is so hard working it’s unbelievable.
Having all white lamp posts is the way to go. The only "gold" you need is from the lights, when they're on! You can't go wrong with classic white!
Your mom is just an exception treasure!!
Wow, the jet washing really brought the pillars to life! Amazing!
Your mother is absolutely incredible!
I think it looks fine without the gold
Thanks Isobel 🥰
the gold would be too much. plain white is best.
Thanks Laurent 🥰
What ever you choose your good taste will prevail xxxxx I have faith xxx❤
Hope you have sun screen on 😂
Agree. Please , no gold on them. Plant some wonderfull flowers around the bottom for contrast instead.
🐮 Bessie... bless her heart, she always was the life of the party,
clogging on the dance floor with a lampshade on her head.
The last we saw her, she was dancing in the fountain. hmm 😬
😂😂😂😂👍
White of course is the perfect color. What do people want-hot pink? Clean and repaired old things have charm. Now the gate posts go with the nice white gates. Wait until the glass canopies over the entrances are restored. That will be a sight to see.
Ok, mom person here. Wear a hat and sunscreen! The consequences of sun damage when you are older is significant! Good work today!
The tenacity of this remarkable effort
I think I like them pure white. So clean and inviting like you said. Gold is best in the interior. But it’s your place. Looks fantastic.
Thank you 🥰
I'm sure the white posts will look great, but for me I wonder what black post would look like against the white stone walls! More dramatic. Kudos to all.
@magicmarker7047 Or even a gunmetal gray... White is going to show dirt pretty quickly and often!
I prefer those gates in black. It's well fitted for a Chateau. But it's your gates. 😊
I agree, black is a complimenting color!!
Terry, if you will get a gallon of liquid pool chlorine and put a cup to a gallon water in a garden sprayer then spray to areas you are pressure washing it will make the job so much easier and will kill algae and mildew.
The pansy's you mentioned are cool weather flowers they won't survive the heat in those urns. You need lavender which loves dry heat.
Looking great guys!!!
The gate posts look fantastic now they're clean. The classic white is fantastic Iist add. You keep going from strength to strength. ❤
Definitely all white, they look stunning as they are...
Dear Terry you and your team do what you love, we are just arm chair quarterbacks, our opinion is useless. You have excellent taste and you are putting in the manpower. We are amazed at your amazing progress.
Just a thought for the planters on the pillars. If you had 4 plastic pots that fit inside the urns you could plant them out and put 1 in each of the urns and have 2 growing in a protected area so they could be swapped out when the urns plants look a little tired. I do this for my two planters on the front verandah. 🇦🇺
White is classic. Beautiful
I really like all white.
I think the lamp posts are gorgeous the color they are WITHOUT painting them.
No gold would be my vote. I think simplicity is best because you have all the greenery and flowers and fountains to draw the eye.
I am glad you are power washing the gate posts, and eventually the fence wall. IMO it is only mossy from neglect, not being aged. Bring her back to her prime. 😁
I actually much prefer the chateau without the shutters on. So much more elegant.
That must've been one heck of a party! A lampshade wearing cow falling into the fountain and couldn't get out?! 🥳🎉🐄
That's funny!! 😂
@@AtlantaGarden I have a warped sense of humor, glad you can appreciate it. 🙂😉
Just white on the lamps, gates & fencing. It will look beautiful 😊👍🏻
Thanks Ann 🥰🥰
They look amazing Tracey 😱
Looks great!
Is there a way to confirm from archives what they were originally?
I agree with white for the lamp posts! Oh ... like I have a vote! 😊
Your mum is an a amazing 😊woman. She is so strong, bless her, and capable of doing all sorts of jobs. Love watching your vlogs . Best wishes to all the family.
Gold would be in keeping with something as majestic as a chateau
Just white lamps, no gold embellishment necessary. The chateau is looking so beautiful and refined, doesnt need everyhing gold to make it special:)) Beautiful flowers and the eventual fountain will provide all the 'bling' you need IMO
The fencing will be amazing when it is white too. Tracy is Super Mom. I'm 58 and my back is aching just watching her work.
Ditto... I'm gonna be 58 this year... and I am aching all over just watching her work so hard.
My thoughts too!!
I'm wondering, her age???.. where does she get the energy!!😊
I’m 57, and I have been impressed with Tracy for years.
Do any of the locals stop by to thank you for saving a piece of history in their town? It truly is remarkable. Do you work everyday on the château? Hopefully everyone takes a break to refresh the mind and body.
I love shutters. I can’t wait until they are repaired and reinstalled.
I like them white. Simple and classic. 😊
I am intrigued by the raw metal.
Your mom Tracy is my super hero! Love her and her passion and drive so much!!! 🤗
I like the lampposts as they are now, all white. They are clean, fresh, and classically beautiful.
Pure white is so elegant!!!
Plain white. Agree that when the lights are on they will give a golden effect.
Plain white, less bling is what your lovely Chateau deserves...gold cheapens the facade of buildings such as this, in my opinion.
YES! Definitely add gold! Just excellent going! ❤❤❤❤❤
It would be amazing if the outdoor lights are painted in a soft black. Very classic and french which will frame the chateau and the entry gates beautifully. Amazing work!
the lamp posts are so pretty, hard to believe they were buried in the basement!!!
I know!! 🥰🥰
They look beautiful just white
and, since the 3 of us have been sick/hurting/under the weather, we need to have virtual cocktails next Sunday!! Tracy dear, please join!!
There were so many opinions about the gold on the lamp posts. After seeing the detail up close at the end of the video, I pretty much agree the gold might be too much.
I like the basic white, just like the rest of the homes outdoors trims, gates, doors exc…. It is becoming a beautiful home
I'd paint the fences, gates and lampposts in green or black - but your castle you do your taste
I like the fresh clean look, to me there is a point where “aged” just looks neglected. I love all you are doing, just so inviting and beautiful! I think just those little touches of gold like you were saying would add just the right touch.
Doing the rest of the railings will look wonderful
Since you asked what we thought about the gold on the lamps, I would probably just do the bands in gold, but nothing on the scrollwork. That way it will look as if the bands are holding the scrolls onto the lamp and break it up just a little bit. Just a thought. It must be so rewarding to be able to know that every day your hard work makes such an impact on the Chateau. All those “just jobs” have really added up! I simply cannot believe the changes you have been able to accomplish in just over just 3 years! She is becoming a stunning home again!
Don't forget the railing ,Terry ,looks great the white on the lamps ,👍
I think you are absolutely right on making the light posts white. It looks excellent with your white window frames, White gate and iron work. It pulls it all together and makes a cohesive entry. The pillars look so nice and clean. The petunias planted on top in the planters will be beautiful. I can't wait to see the fountain when it's complete. Well done! 😀
Thanks so much! 🥰
A bit of paint and some pressure washing has made a wonderful difference.
The work you are all doing is so awesome - you all can do anything & re-create such beauty. Mum is right there with her knowledge & help every day. An amazing woman deserving of all good things ❤
I think the lamps, fountains and fencing white would really accent the chateau
Trailing begonias would look lovely in the pots above the pillars
I like the idea of the gold bands on the lamps but perhaps not the leaf branches. Perhaps as others have said, put the lights in place, then add the gold afterwards so you can get a true picture of the lamps lit. But I do think the gold would add some sparkle.
Do what you think best but I see on a screen you see it as it all is and every day.
Its all coming together now . LOve the white gates and lampposts .
You all are so amazing! You'll attack any task! It always turns out so well. Cleaning the surfaces of the pillars is a stroke of genius.
It looks much better, worth all the hard work.⭐️⭐️
I like the gold ideas- Gold under the white globes would add just enough to them so they have a glint of sparkle...
I’m looking forward to seeing the dormer on the tower painted and refreshed. I think the whole facade will look so much more elegant!
Thanks John 🥰
A big, long rented telehandler would be safest for that. I couldnt watch Terry up on such hugely tall scaffolding just to paint that. 😊
With regard to the lamps: many say leave them pure white but again, you have to think of the grandeur of the Chateau without overdoing it. I think just painting the bands holding the “Acanthus” leaves on the lanterns and the bands on the posts, nothing else, will look elegant without overdoing it. This isn’t a modern Villa but an 18th Century Chateau and that’s what you have to think of. So Terry, a little dab will do it . xxx 💕🥰💕 Alex in Florida
I have enjoyed watching the transformation the Chateau for a few years now. I do wish Terry would wear safety glasses when using power tools to clean off the paint! and some sun screen in that warm sunshine! Safety first.
Thanks for watching! 🥰
Gosh I remember the first mowing / clean up of the lawn and you found the fountain foundation circle!! Lol. now look at you! So excited to see every day of your renovations inside and out. I can’t imagine what you can find when you dig.😳. Finally some warm weather to work outside. Keep lamp posts white imo. Just look at this grand dame being loved and brought back into beauty. I can hear her sigh of thanks .
I like the idea of small gold accents. BUT…. I wonder if the white globes against all that white would be to stark. SO… I suggest painting a gold band around the globes or paint Fleur de Lis on them as an accent.
Love the picture of the gates open and Patric standing there as greeter. Well done, as usual, can’t wait to see the lampposts in place. I vote for all white.
Thanks 👍
I really can't put in words of excitement I have.
Following from the beginning; and to see what you've all have been able to achieve in such a short time is amazing!
Terry Tracy and Ash you energy and determination are such an inspiration.
Love you guy's ! ❤
Jean from Suffolk. I think it’s a horse jaw not a cow by the shape 😮
Thanks Jean 🥰🥰
White is the perfect choice ..they are beautiful...Tracy you are a dedicated power house....yes you all must be exhausted..time for a deep bath...hugs from Canada
As far as the gold... is the price worth the prize. No one is going to be close enough to even see the gold! Some places you need to edit, edit, edit.
I saw lamp posts done in a Metallic brown paint which had a gold hue in the paint and they looked great. On another note, (just a suggestion) is maybe treat your hardworking mum to a salon for a colour and cut... to be pampered. Make her a Queen at the Chateau for a day. Keep up the good work.
Almost thought there’d be ONE episode when Tracy was not digging!! Lol. I vote white!
Tracy Wonder Woman ❤🤣👏👏👏👏For me White paint on its own. Put them in and look in all weathers and lights. You can always add gold later but taking it off is a longer process!
Thanks Susie 🥰🥰
Go with what you love…you’re doing all the work and ultimately it’s your decision because the lovely chateau belongs to you my dears❤
So is the next job prepping and painting the lovely circular metal railings 😳 will that be paula’s job 😊
Definitely gold
The lamp posts are really lovely for the area
I like a little gold here and there. Terry has used gold tastefully til now, so I think it could add interest to the entry to the chateau, while looking elegant🤩
Personally i wouldn't have those planters up there at the gateway. Too hard to maintain. Perhaps they could be better put near the steps. An option could be statuettes, pineapples, whatever you can find that is the size to suit and works in with your ideas. Only a power wash now and then, much easier. You have plenty of flowers that will be a joy to behold. The lamp posts are beginning to look lovely. Best wishes.
Hi guys, wow the lights look fantastic! I love them white but I agree with you Terry, a little bit of gold will look fabulous and so in keeping with the beautiful Chateau, Tracy you are a super woman! I think you’re amazing, I would love some of your stamina, I’m in awe of you! I love your channel so much and all of you! Xxxxxxxxxxxx😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I think the lampposts should be white. All so clean and stunningly beautiful ❤️
Please add gold to the posts!!!
Very minimalistically, highlight the distinctive feature on each curl as Terry pointed out in the video.
It will look absolutely lovely in the glow of the lights and it accentuates the artistic detail of the metalwork which would get overlooked being all white.
Plus it will be the first clue to visitors the level of character and detail the chateau holds within.
Go for It!! 🤩
I think you should add a little gold to one of the lights and set it in place. Then you will know. You can always paint it white again.
Gold is going to make it look to elegant unless you paint the Chateau and the rusty metal fencing. Whatever you choose I believe it will look fantastic, you guys have great taste. Cheers from Sacramento, California.
I think the bands in gold only, leave flourishing white
Terry! I’d do pineapples in the two planters on top of the pillar just so you don’t have to maintain plants. Nothing worse that half alive plants…
I think some small highlights in a dark slate blue would look nicer than gold.
The lamps look beautiful; they do not really need gold. They shine in their own right.
Yes to the gold x
You all got sunburned today. Great job!
Your lamp posts would beautimous in a Bronze or Verdigris patina. ❤️🙏
A great days work. The gate pillars look fantastic and new lights with a touch of gold will be beautiful ❤️
Added gold makes a statement pure white can't.
I find i can stand a great deal of gold... i love all the gold accents you mentioned.
Its a chateau!!
I do an ‘antique’ gold effect with a slight ‘brushing’ of gold or bronze on the high points for depth.
I use ‘Rub’n Buff’ on wood furniture but you would use an exterior rust resistant paint to highlight the white.
Just a light stripy effect, not solid but enough to ‘highlight’ the white.
I would leave the lampposts white except for those little leaf "cups" underneath the globes, and that one band on the post. More than that would be too much.
I knew you couldn't have those lampposts without some gold. It will be stunning whatever Terry choses.
White is perfect !
Painting the lights white with touches of gold will make them magical in the Winter months especially with a bit of garland on the posts. In spring with Easter coloured ribbon bows on them. In summer with some potted flowers near by and in the Autumn with some pumpkins around them. You can't go wrong painting them white!!
If you have a metal detector, now would be a good time to use it - before you dig.
Sometimes bones were used as a warning. Proceed with caution.
Soldiers were there during WW2, they may have used the fountains as burn pits. Do be careful digging in them, be always on the lookout for old ammunition or explosives that were duds and run.. if nothing happens then you can go back for a better look lol Practice finding something and sprinting - never second guess.
Your nose and sinuses look so sore and painful, is there anything you can take for it? Hoping you feel better soon I put a tiny bit of calming lotion and cold wet washcloth on my nose and facial sinus area's when I flare like that. It's so uncomfortable, I feel for you. Any anti inflammatory (Preparation H, don't laugh all the models use it for puffy eyes) paracetamol type tablet or cream will help, don't get it in your eyes. I also get a form of Rosacea and my skin turns red in the summer, Red hair, freckles, green eyes, and I reflect the sun lol. You are brave to be out there 🤧❤🩹
White paint on the light standards will look super, and begin keeping with the rest of the trims around the chateau. They will look stunning when completed, and I can only imagine how inviting they will be once lit up at night👏🏻🤗
Thanks Britta 🥰
You guys give so much attention to detail. I can't wait to see the next thing you do.
