  • Bonjour à tous,
This week Terry & Ash take a seat in the château grand salon and chat to us about why and how they managed to buy an abandoned château in the french countryside.
In the chat, the pair talk about how they found that dream castle and why the shear amount of work needed did not deter them from saving this abandoned beauty.

    About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

She’s “Wonder Woman” for sure! You two, I should say you 3 are very blessed and Jonathan also, to have you all. What a lovely family you all are.

This was really nice, to get a fuller picture of your process. It's funny that Adrian and Carole looked at Lalacelle, because what they bought seems like a boat-load more work. I appreciate that you are so tolerant of French work ethics and so complimentary of your mayor. I also appreciate that you don't show bickering or pretend fighting, like so many other sites do. That inherent kindness is at the root of your appeal!

I'm not a native speaker so I had a very hard time understanding you in the first video. But now the sound quality is so much better and I get pretty much all of what you're saying.. I am retired and 65 years young and money is a bit tight so l do a lot myself due to necessity. When l get overwhelmed, l think of Tracey and the rest of your family and it helps me keep going. When she dug out the circular flower beds, BY HAND, l knew she would always inspire me. Thank you all for sharing your adventure with us!

Thank you Terry and Ash. This was a wonderful Story of how you are living your dreams. Please stop thinking you are not enough. Each one of you is so much more, each of you is so capable. We learn from our experiences...trust yourselves in what you are doing.
Tracy you are amazing. You so remind me of me 35-40 years ago, when my husband and I were given a little house in the countryside in Greenwich, Ct. but before this we bought an 100 yr. old Gate House to a lovely Mansion. I was 22 at the time. My husband worked at a bank. I stayed home with our 2 yr. old son...and slowly but surely began to renovate different rooms of this charming Mansard Roof Gate House.
I was inspired and encouraged by my husband's Dad and Uncle, who always were kind and appreciative of the daily challenges we faced. Many many moons have passed and life has changed. We lost the father of my 2 sons when he was just 56. They were in their early 20's. I now am incapacitated and spend most of my days and nights reclining...struggling with acute chronic nerve pain. I am very grateful for your Vlog. Tony you are also extremely capable...quietly you are creating amazing bringing the enchanting cottage back to life.. Ash and Terry you are such amazing examples for Jonathan to emulate. He is s super lad, who is a little sponge, absorbing everything, wanting to help, wanting and so needing to be needed. I love how Jonathan has been encouraged to start a garden. His eyes say it all.☺ Tony and Tracy, Ash and Terry you are the Best. How I wish i could fly to your home, and help. Sadly it is almost impossible for me to travel.
I know, the time is coming when you will be receiving Volunteers who will share their knowledge and loving kindness to help make your dreams a reality. Much Love and Gratitude. Sending you virtual hugs. Anita🙏🌟✨🎉🗼💛💙💜🧡

A truly wonderful and inspiring segment gents! Love hearing your story... from the beginning, about the trials, tribulations, positive thinking, determination, and your road to success. Truly inspiring - brought a genuine tear to my eye - listening to your story and path, your partnership, the risks, the total family involvement, and of course your parents with a spotlight on Tracy - also had a tear or two with her through several of your Christmas segments when she teared up a bit - from genuine, heart-felt appreciation from your followers. My partner and I are (have been) exploring a very similar direction... with totally similar comparisons to you both (as I'm sure you hear from many others). Me the creative / visionary / dreamer... see's the possibilities and the final results even if weeks or months away... grew up in retail, customer service, display, interior design, hotel / hospitality, event design, etc... my partner the more 'black and white one'...logical, calm, rational, computer genus 'geek'. And me pushing the goal to find a property overseas (exploring France and Italy)... so that we can at least say that we did it / tried it... with more than just broken dreams and disappointment that we didn't. Congrats!

Good evening, Mr. Wickens and thank you for your comment. May I respectfully ask what is the inspiration behind your quest to go down this same path as Terry and partner, and how does one find these homes and then pay for them to be renovated? I would love to do the same thing but 1) don't speak a lick of French or Italian, 2) am a healthcare professional so I can't 'work from home' or do any videoing, and 3) don't have enough 'stuff' to sell to begin to pay for a ticket to yonder plains, much less understand the bureaucracy entailed in purchasing an old homestead or where to buy timber/plumbing/electrical items. It's great to have a dream, but paying for it is the trick. Any thoughts, tips or tricks?? I'm no Angel Adoree', Stephanie Jarvis or Terry!!! Thank you, and best of luck with your venture!!

Love the episode, and learning on how you came to be there. It would be great to come to France and volunteer to help in your construction project. I have had a lifetime of experience, painting , tiling, wallpapering etc. we are currently renovating a home for my daughter and her family. I have finished tiling 4 bathroom floors and 3 out of 4 of the bathroom. Showers. It’s hard work but very satisfying. We find it is the best way to help our children, so they have a great start to life and a beautiful home is a very nice place for the grandchildren to live in. It’s great to see you restoring the chateau for future generations to live and enjoy. I Enjoy the process just as much as living in the finished project. Thanks for opening up your lives for us to see and share , from Susan in Canada.

The most important is that you're entire family is so down-to- earth. What a wonderful vlog. Terry and Ash, you two have worked so hard and your background story is very heartwarming. Your down to earth attitude and work ethic is paying off in spades. Your loving comments about Tracey and Tony underscores your family strength and will keep your perseverance alive in all the hard work yet to come. I continue to admire all you have accomplished in such a short time. Tracey and Tony have absolutely turned the cottage from an unlivable derelict into a cozy warm haven, (sans kitchen and bathroom … but they too are just over the horizon). The added bonus, must I never forget, is Sweet Jonathon … who is just the cherry on the top. Kudoes always from, PA, USA.

It’s been a wonderful experience to watch your family journey on RUclips. Your vlogs are fascinating and although it appears to have been difficult to step onto this path, you have been so good about sharing the joyful moments and the beauty of the life you are now leading. I can relate to much of what you share, because after a wildfire burned up our town (including our home and business), we decided to pool our resources with my brother and his wife and buy a 32 acre vineyard property with a big farmhouse and wine cellar. We are all so close and have been here together for three years now. It has been a monumental amount of work to restore the vines and systems, clean up the property, and learn to make wine, but we wake up every morning filled with love for this new life and gratitude for the opportunity to be stewards of this land. Thank you for this inspiring channel!

Your Mom reminds me of my Mom who passed away in 2014! She is a Superwoman! My Mom was one too and everyday I think of her in amazement of what she did for me and our family. I love watching your Mom because of this. This was great hearing your story! There is no order of Magnitude to Miracles the large ones are actually easier to manifest. When I was in my 20s I went through a divorce and got a job in sales. In that position I noticed everyone was going after the small deals and no one was going after the big ones which took longer and larger efforts. I went after the big ones and my first sale was $9,5 million US Dollars. It is still the largest single sale in that industry and that was over 40 years ago. After that I knew I could do anything so my life has always been about going after the large deals in life. So congratulations. Life for you will be wonderful because of this leap of faith you took. I am so proud of the younger generation for looking to alternatives like sharing your life on RUclips to earn income instead of working for someone else. I love watching your videos! Keep it up.

I think that all of you are amazing but especially Tracy because of her cheerful heart! She is such a joy to watch and I'm awed by her get it done spirit! She has achieved so many things that I wish that I had had the courage to do in my younger years.
God bless to you all. 🥰💕😘💕🥰

That was brilliant, I loved every minute of the video. Tracy is beyond a shadow of a doubt Wonder Woman personified, but you are all such a pleasure to watch. Ash I love your ‘sensible ‘ attitude and constant struggles to rein Terry in 😆Terry, you have an amazing eye for detail and I can see your vision, I love your thinking, I did think the house you renovated in the UK had a definite Chateau vibe. Tony is an absolute super hero, he did the roof of the cottage in such hot weather, he never seems to complain, is there anything he can’t turn his hand to? And Jonathan is a real little trouper, I love his willingness to help and his genuine delight at things. You really have moved mountains already. With all of your positivity, you can only be successful x

This was a nice update/recap of the story behind the story. It was nice to see Ash get teary-eyed and have it confirmed that he is really a softie at heart. We sometimes get the impression that the rest of the family was sort of dragged into Terry's fantasy, but watching this and other videos we can see that you ALL fell in love with the chateau and it's really a dream for the whole family. 💞

I'm sure the chateau and grounds are going to be amazing one room at a time. So wish I could be there to help. I love to see things transform into beauty. Hugs to you all your doing great things there. Terry USA

You felt "like home" I guess cause your souls were already living there (in past lives). it's not your first time on this land...that is why you felt a strong and good connection to this place and this energy gives you motivation and strength to renew the castle

We really enjoyed tonight’s episode of your journey so far. Such a brave thing to do but you must follow your dream, life is too short to have regrets about the things we didn’t do. Would have liked to hear a little more about Tony and his skills/experience. He is such a lovely, quiet, unassuming man who just seems to get on with any job he’s faced with and always does it so well. You’re lucky to have him on board.

Oh Guys that was anything but boring I loved it, you speak, so well together what an amazing story. I watch several Chateau Vlogs and your Chateau without a doubt is the most BEAUTIFUL, The gates, the view from every angle, the views of your surroundings, the land, the outbuildings, the gardens and yes that stair case I am in Melbourne Australia but I long to visit and take Tracey out for a coffee and a chat she is indeed an amazing woman as I must admit so are you all. As I’ve aged I have realized that the world is actually filled with wonderful people willing to help. I will gladly continue to watch the ads as that is the only way I can participate at this time, and I will continue to root for all of you. Maybe one day I will be blessed to visit your lovely property and home. Many blessings, much prosperity and tremendous happiness being sent your way. 💁‍♀️🇨🇦

Thanks for sharing. You have achieved so much in a short space of time and you’ve been courageous to take on such a huge project (and in a foreign country). Well done.
