Eastwood Park - Old School Trails with a Modern Twist - Rochester, MN

  • Eastwood Park in Rochester was the first trail system in the area to officially open, so I drove south for the first trail ride of the year. It had been a few years since I'd ridden here, as Gamehaven is definitely the more popular trail system to ride in the area. Eastwood is a very old school trail system, hand cut trails that wind up and down the very limited elevation there to make for a decent amount of climbing and miles in a small park trail system. You can definitely tell the trails were built for older, smaller bikes with small wheels but modern bikes can manage here. It is easy to get a bit lost, especially on the western trails where there is limited trail signage. There are also some modern features built around the trails, such as a whale tail and an experimental jump line. While Gamehaven is still my favorite trail system in Rochester, Eastwood has some fun trails on the mellower side of things and shouldn't be overlooked, especially if you are a newer rider.

They're my home trails and haven't yet rode the far West cluster without feeling lost. It's even worse when the foliage fills in.

I thought I was riding half the trails the wrong way on the western cluster, even without the foliage I felt lost. These are some fun trails, they’ve been improved since I was last here

Looks like a nice trail for a day out in the woods. Thanks for sharing.

Great day in the woods for the first trail ride of the year! Eastwood isn't my first choice in Rochester, that would be the Gamehaven trails, but that happened to be the first trail system to open.

Eastwood is very interesting theres no doubt about it! I enjoy riding Eastwood, but man some sections are so tight for our modern bikes. Also...No thrash metal music?!? come on man! Oh wait thats my thing hahaha Good video man!

"Bull in a China shop" was the theme of the day here, modern bikes are easier to ride on modern trails, who would have guessed haha. Eastwood was a fun ride, I see they've been building new stuff since I was last here, including that rogue creek gap! I got more of a classic rock n' roll vibe from these trails, but I enjoyed you highlight video here with the metal, you made it work!

Thanks, it was great to get that first spring trail ride in the books, even if I had to drive all the way south to Rochester!

Great video! We’re all looking for places to ride, for sure. In Duluth, it could be another month before the trails get rid of snow and dry up. We’ve still been cross country skiing! Our highs are only going to be in the 30’s this week. Sad. I’m thinking of heading to the ‘Cities this weekend. Is the Xcel MTB park always open, rain or shine?

I haven’t ridden there yet, but the Xcel all weather trail is always open! With all the amazing trails in Duluth closed still for the late spring, it would be a good time to explore the trails in southern MN! Im expecting my favorite, Battle Creek to be opening soon, fingers crossed 🤞🏻

@@AndrewGehn Yes, I’m looking at riding Battle Creek, Lebanon and Murphy, too. They’re all still closed from what I’ve researched. I saw Dialed in’s Xcel video a week ago or so and assumed you rode it, too.

@@Randy_Johnson I haven’t made the drive to Shakopee yet to ride Xcel, but that’s a place on my to ride list. Lebanon Hills is another great trail system, most people in the Twin Cities metro area would say the best trail system is either Battle Creek or Lebanon Hills.

Didn’t know this trail existed, still need to check out Game Haven with TKolbo and we need to drag him north this summer. Good overview of the trail, It looked like the whole thing was pretty much 90’s style, It’s good practice for the tight stuff though and fun just to get in some dirt I’m sure. 🤘🏻🎥🫶🏽

Gamehaven has some fun stuff, definitely my first choice of riding in Rochester but this was the only trail system open. Eastwood is definitely a test of your bike maneuvering skills with how tight and twisty the trails get. You'll have to get TKolbo to tow you into that rogue quarry drop and I hope to ride with both of you up on the Range this summer!
