Thanks for bringing this to my attention , as a none plumber. 50 meters for £5 and outside tap drip fixed. Use of these products is great for us make an informed decision of which to use for are set application 👍
Both threads, factory or custom made, are uneven. So the two surfaces never mate. When crushed tight together (BSP are tapered), most of the times, the soft metals deform to mate perfectly, but not always. That's why hemp/PTFE is used. Putting it in the thread, can't work because it'll get pushed/bunched and jam the thread before they seal - Gels can be used this way however. Over/Across the thread will cause it to "Spill" over into any voids and create a seal. It's all about squishing the sealant into the imperceptible voids.
Banging my head against the wall trying to seal AT THE CORRECT ANGLE so many fittings, outside tap, shower outlet... WHY do none of them explain this with installation instructions or something!
Here I am cursing whichever idiot decided to use straight threads instead of conical. Because even if the straight threads are cut well, locrite or hemp wound on, they will never, ever, but ever offer the seal that conical threads with PTFE tape do. Once that tape gets compressed properly it will literslly flow in evry microscopic cavity between the threads and the more you turn the tighter it gets. I've used both, a lot, and conical threads win evrery time. Those you can get to hold gases 600-1000 bars, stupid straight threads may leak just a couple of bars of liquid. What a waste. Just because some lazy plumber one day said "gee, but at least you can rotate certain attachments to whichever degree you want" instead of cutting the same extra few degrees of threads. Thanks a lot.
Better to have a pipe vice to grip the pipe or it will turn if trying to thread a new thread and turn it round so you are pushing down then you can use your body weight. Loctite 55 is really good though. Sorry you are a great plumber but crap on steel pipe, leave it to us pipe fitters. lol.
So what is it you want to use, coloured goop or tape, I used to think you was worth something but you have just turned into an advertiser of anything. The telling time for me was when you put paste on a fibre washer

Flax and boss white always done me 42 years later never had one leak cheaper than loctite.
Considering you cant use it on gas or potable water id say its pretty kuch obsolete now
I like the idea my teacher.
