This is why I think following trends is silly. They will be out of style in 5 years or less and if you don't realize it, you'll look out of touch. If you just find the things that you love & work for you, you won't be falling into the marketing trap of trends which exist mainly to keep people buying buying buying.
All shes done is realized that it's all about balance. Tight top, tight bottom, out, for example. I've been doing this since high school, long sleeve shirt with shorts for an example. It's fashion 101. High school was 30 years ago for me too lol
@@xJeanine81 I'm hour-glass to pear shaped and *not* petite in bone structure. If society asks me to hide my wide shoulders for looking "masculine", wide hips for looking "big", bust for looking "whoreish" then I'll have to accentuate my curves with tighter/covered styles so I don't turn into a potato sack.
The reason these videos are controversial is because style is subjective people should wear what they feel comfortable in not what some influencer or the fashion industry feels they should wear or what's trendy.
Yeah but not all influencers are like Lydia - her opinion is so highly specific and biased.. she believes that skinny jeans and a tight fit are dated, while loose bottoms are not. Lydia, it's your opinion that a "fitted outfit isn't a good look", you shouldn't say it like it's a universal thing. As a new viewer, I've watched many of her videos and found this pattern of condemning certain outfits, I find her extremely annoying. Other influencers like itsyuyan have their own style, but they don't say "other styles are dated, not good looking"
@@mochicat8464 I see what you mean. It is just her personality though, fashion is all always personal preference, there's no set of rules. So she must strongly believe certain "looks" are dated, when others wouldn't. It's a bit harsh, but that's her style
I agree with some of your points, especially the overuse of logos. I hate baggy trousers though, I don’t think they’re sophisticated or classy at all. And I love small flower prints, they can look really cute on a dress if paired with the right accessories. I do consider my style more classy than trendy, but I think it all comes down to whether you know what suits you and what doesn’t. But ultimately, you need to dress for yourself and wear whatever makes you feel best.
I agree. I can do wide-legged trousers but only if they have a fitted waist and hips. Baggy jeans looked bad on me in the 90s and still do. And I’m not touching the over-sized blazer trend. I look ridiculous. And a dainty floral sun dress is definitely a classic. I agree with many points in the video but I think we need to have our own individual style.
@@rundalina @vanessa k I agree! As a 160cm/5’3” woman, I looked horrible in baggy jeans and trousers in the 90s. They made my legs look like munchkin legs. That is why I am afraid of wide-leg jeans and trousers and still proudly wear my skinny/straight-leg jeans and trousers. 👖
tbh Lydia's opinion are so highly specific, personal and biased.. for example she believes that skinny jeans and a tight fit are dated, and loose bottoms and are not. Lydia, it's your opinion that a "fitted outfit isn't a good look", you shouldn't say it like it's a universal thing. as a new viewer, I've watched many of her videos and found this pattern of condemning certain outfits, I find her extremely annoying.
I wear all fitted outfits because it fits my style, and I find that those types of trousers make me look…bigger. When I think of all-fitted outfits, I instantly think of Audrey Hepburn. Her style is classic and timeless. Trendy outfits and clothing are what really makes you look dated. Calling someone’s style cringeworthy is also not a good look.
Same. I’ve recently gained 40lbs+ from hypothyroidism, which I didn’t know I had for the longest. I tried to do the wide leg/big trousers to “balance my shape” like everyone said I should since I absolutely hate my body now. Needless to say, it’s makes me look even bigger & I’m only 5’1. Anything “boxy” and baggy makes me look like the size of a house imo but at the same time, anything TOO fitted also makes me look horrible too😒
Its about what looks and feels good on your body! I think skinny jeans look great on Lydia’s legs, but they are not super comfy. I think we shouldnt just blindly follow trends but try to find our own style :)
Totally agree. I didn’t like the way she berated certain styles just because SHE doesn’t think it’s a good look. As you say, that attitude is what is not a “good look”.
Oversized blazers look horrible on some body frames and add many kilos and make the siluet look so boxy. So, no matter the trends, no oversized jackets or blazers for me
@@zoralinkaexactly! I think it’s a really cool trend and I love seeing others wear it. Me being tall, it doesn’t hit me at a nice point on my body, it makes me look large, and it hides some of my favorite features like waist and arms. Sometimes even if you like a trend it may not feel good on your own body
Your tips are SPOT ON. There is a lot of resistance in the comments. And the comments reveal how and why people stick in style of decades past. Your advice is very reasonable and not an extreme "hurry up and follow ugly trends" suggestions. Reasonable advice and visual great examples that no one can argue with.
Fitted blazers and skinny jeans are never outdated. We all know over-sized anything will drown small people. Petite and skinny women like me can't wear over-sized clothes because our dainty bodies will get swallowed by those humongous outfits.
Truth, really oversized is not for the petite. But a straight jeans as opposed to a skinny one still works. Or mentioned straight jeans and a fitted top.
I think anyone can work an oversized piece if styled right however I love an all fitted look too. I am not someone who is up to date with fashion and I feel like I probably still hold on to a lot of the aesthetic from few years ago. I don't mind though.
I so disagree with this! I totally think petites can wear oversized. Your eyes just aren't accustomed. Young women (often petite) rock this all the time.
Useful? It's been BRILLIANT! You're right, we often do not consider the 'why' something doesn't work, and so your pointing out not only the faux pas, but the ever so gentle tweak that changes an outfit from dated to modern is extremelly useful. Thank you! You're the best and your classic style with a slight edge is just the elegant but not boring look that I aspire to.
This video popped up on my screen, and I clicked on it just out of curiosity. Firstly, cringing on some styles does not portray anyone well. Style is personal. Some might like girly, some like masculine. On some girls, all fitted outfits look very edgy and modelesque, and those with long bodies can pull such outfits rather perfect. On the other hand, the masculine style might look too rough on some. I know this video is about balancing; I get the idea you are trying to communicate. Still, I can't entirely agree that you are telling someone that their style might be cringe-worthy, especially when you are a blogger with no accolades, fashion backgrounds, or recognition by fashion critics and figures. So instead, speak about your styles, how you do, and how you would do, so people who favour your style might adopt some tricks.
Agree - the tone of the whole video was just all wrong. What you were saying about how you couldn't even demonstrate the "cringe" outfits because you don't own any of the pieces made me personally cringe.
I'm very much into wearing things that fit my body and make me feel good regardless of trends. However, I really enjoy the explanations and variations you share! Always gives me ideas to mix and match and try different looks.
I agree with most but I am petite and skinny, I find it very hard to style big trousers. I tried but they swallowed me completely. 😥 I will keep my straight leg or skinny trousers and wear them with my boyfriend blazer. You look good in everything even the "dated" demonstrations btw 🤭
I agree! I also have bought so many baggy things in the recent years (mainly jeans and pants) but find that I barely wear them, especially in winter. It's way harder to style them and look good while being effortless and not looking like a big blob!
Lailli Mirza is an example of a super petite influencer who keeps on wearing a lot of skinny jeans and other items in ways that are perhaps not the most trendy, at least not in Europe and definitely not in the nordics where I live. She wears a lot of delicate heels paired with skinny pants or skirts, for example. Whereas the more trendy way to wear those would be to add them with a really wide and masculine pair of pants, for example.
Interesting opinions and very much trend led. We all look back and cringe, then we'll do it all over again. Now I'm older it's about finding shapes that work and mastering the art of layering. The very feminine outfit was beautiful on you. That is a look that doesn't really date but lacked a little imagination. Fitted boucle is probably another classic but beware of looking really dated. The opinions here are just that but did have a slightly mean girl vibe.
Thank you! I got sick almost 10 years ago and most of my clothes are from then. I’m at a point now where I’m out and about more and seeing IG people wear basics that just look completely different to the basics I have, and now I’m thinking it’s all in the fit. I’m realising that classics like jeans and t shirts and trousers can still date and it’s tricky to put them together in a fresh way
you're so right that 'classics' can and do still date! many youtube 'influencers' and insta people are quite young and regularly say, "oh, this or that new piece is going to be a classic for years to come so splurge your eyeballs out" well no. nothing really stands the test of time as fashion goes in and out. i wouldn't mind that if it were not for the fact that the outside world still judges others on how we present our appearance. and therein lies the rub.. hope you are in a better health situation now!
I do enjoy watching your videos but I don’t agree with everything you say today. You also have to go with what suits your body shape and frame. So someone petite can look swamped in oversized anything. But I agree that you can tweak old pieces to update them. So a vintage boucle jacket, which can be seen as a classic, can be modernised with a different trouser shape and shoes/ boots. I’d like to hear you talk more about using what’s in our wardrobes rather than chasing trends too much.
Yes me too, trends drive fast fashion, we need to look at what we have got. Saying this i think you can integrate, as Lydia does do, those pieces in your wardrobe. I adore vintage Dior and Chanel, I think its best to be true to yourself and what brings you joy rather than git in to trends.
This totally resonates and is clarifying. the all fitted outfit is very much what I wore over 10 years ago in high school and even middle school. this video definitely has me contemplating my closet and how to re style pieces I already have. I understand that some people may feel offended by this parts of this video... but if you get it, you get it. Some people just won't get it and that's okay too
Clothes look different on different body types. People will most likely still wear them even when they are out of fashion just because it works. Kids in the current generation tend to choose personal style over trends.
There’s a way to do it so it looks good and purposeful rather than sloppy. I love an oversized piece with tighter pieces. Creates balance and I feel more comfortable than wearing all tight clothing.
I am old enough to have seen it all in style and out. I have all of those outdated pieces. I am so thankful for this video. Deep down inside I felt something was wrong with those pieces in my wardrobe. I just couldn't pin point it. You nailed it and thank you again for your amazing, extremely useful style/fashion lessons! Watching your videos I continue learning every single time. You amazed me. How did you get so great at that being so young. Natural gem.
She gives us the knowledge to put together a chic and sophisticated wardrobe, not a high school or college swap closet. I can really appreciate that. Investment pieces worth keeping! Don’t you agree?
Lydia I just love the way you have stayed true to your fashion principles and love of fashion as your channel grows . The educational value is amazing . I hate how other channels start off with a love of fashion but then morph into this aspirational lifestyle / product placement nightmare . Love your channel Lydia thank you
Oh i love the girly look! Floral print, pink and dresses are my thing, i would wear it all year around if it wasnt so darn cold in sweden during the winter. And during the winter my style changes from colorful with floral print to black/grey/brown. I nippick abit from fashiontrends thru the years, i mix between 1940s/1990s and modern.
Yeah never did I think I would see a video where dressing “feminine/girly” is considered to be “dated”….I noticed in this new way of feminism, Women are being shamed(very passive-aggressively ironically) if they still want to look & do things that are considered very feminine…If it’s not nude or black, it’s not considered “trendy” sadly 😕
I think Taste should be something personal, it's when others start telling what to wear and what not to wear we got in situations like we are in today where you are supposed to dress like your peers do...
Yes I think there are ways that it can be done and it all depends on the pattern and colours, but what I personally think those really bright florals like the ones I’ve shown are a bit dated now!
I have kept all of my clothes ( since the 70’s) investment pieces without huge designer prices and they are all literally on Rotation. Plus classical styling has no age either. Love your work x
There is alot to learn about the fashion world...body types, trends, and what is truly timeless and classic. The opinions given in this video are lacking that knowledge.
I wear what looks good on my 5’2” size 4 athletic frame. Classics are my go to. I love fitted classics. Again, I do not do trends. I do sexy classics. Oversize makes me look like a frumpy box. I also no longer wear super high heels. If I wore those baggy pants and oversized blazer I would look ridiculous.
What I learned from this video... don't follow the advice of someone who would wear that gawdawful sweater and who talks in a snoody condescending voice.
I personally love your style and definitely find your video very useful, but being around these trends many many years I don’t find following fashion trend is very healthy to our wallet and environment. As I get older, I stick with what I am comfortable with and feel good in, only buy some trendy pieces and make sure they can pair with what’s in my wardrobe.
If that's what you like you should wear them no matter what's "on trend". I'm not going to wear skinny jeans if they come back in style tomorrow because the tik tokkers say so. The only time trends are interesting to me is when I can suddenly find things I like in every shop because it's suddenly not out of style anymore.
It'll come back. It's not the first time it moved away from it and went back. Your comment is a lil weird, if you prefer looser styles, then why not stick to them regardless of the trend?
This is really helpful, Lydia. I find I instinctively know what looks dated or wrong, but I'm not so good at knowing how to fix it! So I find your practical tips useful. Thanks.
I sometimes like it better if people don't look so perfectly styled. Kinda miss those days where people had more of their own style. Still like the tips though :). For me personally I really love the feminine french style with some days of more baggy styles. Do t think I'll ever get tired of florals 😂. I already know I'm not a trendy girl 😂.
I’m a mix of floral feminine / French and minimalist aesthetic. Depends on occasion and mood. French style is so chic timeless classic and beautiful and has actually been extremely trendy but being true to your personal style is the most important. I’m sure you look so beautiful wearing this style !
So I live in Texas and when going to a baby shower I think a floral dress does work. But I like the idea of bringing some masculine accessories in to make it look more current.
In this video Lydia is teaching strategies to help us balance our looks to include current style, and not that we need to copy her every outfit! It about concepts and balance. I get it!
I struggle to get out of the all fitted look! Any other tips for someone with an hourglass shape who feels oversized tops make them look bigger than they are?
Love Lydia with a massive pinch of salt she often forgets to take into account height and body type when that's not the specific focus of the video. For me her "lessons" feel for a very specific body type which is fair as that's likely all she knows. E.g. First point, for more hourglass figures a tighter top with wide leg trousers works better with a tie/belt to highlight your waist. Oversized tops and puff sleeves can make us busty women look larger.
@@katl863 I agree with you. Lydia is a great stylist but when you have a different body shape sometimes her pieces may look terrible on you. I am a short petite woman with no waist & no boobs, wide leg trousers make me look like I am drowning in fabric, so I stick to cigarette style trousers. 👍
Yes as a busty hourglass oversized tops make my belly look the same size as my chest which is 10 inches bigger. I look like I’m wearing a tent and 30 lbs heavier. I wish stylists would make videos that shows modern style with different body types. Fitted tops looks best on me
If you have a nice curvy shape skinny jeans look great with a nice racer back top, a slightly fitted blouse etc, and oversized blazer, trench or shacket over the top, I do love the shoulder pad style jumpers and t shirts too as long as they aren't too baggy, it looks classy and elegant, I work hard in the gym I have leg shape and a bum that's taken me 5 years to get peachy and I am not gonna drown that in wide leg oversized trousers I would look awful! She has a very lean shape, not curvy very straight up and down, like a zara model body so these clothes look lovely on her. Me I am a gym woman who trains hard to have shapely legs and butt haha , and i am only 5'5 tall too I would look drowned out in stuff like this, but I do love an oversized outer layer and then a fitted look underneath ,I like her style for her but videos telling people what doesn't look good aren't great because everyone thinks and looks differently some people may think we look awful haha but I wear what suits my body shape and what i am comfortable in, you can still look classy and chic in fitted items.
I have to disagree with floral dressing (small print). In my opinion these dresses are timeless, feminine and staple for the summer parties and bbq. Enjoyed watching your video as always. Thanks for sharing x
Love these tips, Lydia. It is a shame that people are so hypersensitive today - if you don't like it, turn it off! My person al dislike these days is the half-tuck, which often looks quite contrived, esp. when one half of an oversized shirt is trailing down and the other tucked in. I find it does not give off that effortless vibe but sort of combines messy with too try-hard, if that is possible! Keep up the great work, your insights are inspired.
I feel the same about the button-up shirt with one side tucked and one side out looks so weird to me! I mean some people can totally pull it of and look great. I just feel dumb if I do that. Like I was out partying and I was so wasted that I come out of the bathroom all messed up lol, but on purpose
Mry O 'Keefe I see no ‚ hypersensitive ‚ reactions here.. There are a lot of appearance in the comments. To me Lydia IS a style queen and she hits the nerve ( of the time). Definitely. I reapt myself: It is a question of the priority: Looking fresh, up to date and different to the looks which have been around 5 yrs ago..ditch the skinnys and scater skirts. Also there is the point, that a 27 yrs old can look upclassy, fresh , chique ,feminine and still ‚ young‘, vs a 47 yrs old might add a few years of age when she wears the wide elegant new style and I personally look ‚ younger ‚ without ‚ trying hard and silly‘(!) when I wear skinnys, a nice flowery feminine wide blouse and string high heel sandals. The wide elegant looks super and I LOVE it ( on me) but then I do look very seriös/ elegant but not ‚ youngish feminine. I m 50 now and honestly I don‘t care but the young feminine aura is nice to keep;)
I live in FL- tropical florals and hibiscus prints will never not be a thing on the beach, and during daytime/springtime I LOVE everything pink and ladylike for brunch or church or meeting the parents lol 😍
I love this video. I always talk about the importance of contrast in my videos. Mixing masculine/feminine, distressed/polished and tight/loose really does add a freshness and interest to your look.
Style is subjective and what might work for one might not work for another so it's good not to take everything to heart here. That said, i think a lot of the style tips could be used to adjust to whatever style you may have on the go. Personally i'll never get tired of wearing florals whether they're 'on trend' or not though 🌻
Interesting video. I like some of Lydia’s style suggestions but I am around 11 years on top of her age. I still remember my mother wearing this kind of classics in the 80s and they were so outdated in the late 90s and early 2000s. My point is that whatever she is buying and styling now will not pass the test of time. I like this 80s flashback, and I bought some high waste pants, jeans and few blazers just because I felt nostalgic, but even so i don’t think this is classic forever. I feel caught in a trend because I like this style but it is going to die despite the fact that it looks classy. The volume sleeves were very modern in early 2000s then they went out of style. The beautiful silver chain she is wearing reminded me of Vanilla Ice. The straight legs jeans, flared and bootcut jeans are taking me back in middle 2000s when I was in high school. I may go on and on and on. Because I am on such age when I see trends coming back and going out of style. I also have to try hard not to buy trends because I really like the idea of slow fashion.
The art of it to adjust shoes or some other part to alter the look just twist the look to stop looking weird as times change. I remember very short skirts or dresses, I wore flat more chunky shoes, or boots, they were there at the time and it balanced.high heels with very short skirts look terrible in any era.
Although you make some good points, your tone here lets you down. Publicly cringing makes you come across judgemental, condescending, and like a mean girl who gossips about others’ outfits. I usually find you very inspiring and professional.
Personally I love feminine girly looks, florals and fitted looks done right, it's just a part of my style, regardless of trends. Great video though, couldn't agree more on logomania.
I can see how you have grown in your style. Thanks for your videos. Your style have changed to classy and chic. Very nice. I work for a Parisian company, and florals are always in, But it’s the style , and print that you chose makes a huge difference. It’s the cut. Thanks again Lydia…… good tips.
Love your videos but can I say that top you have on with the inflated sleeves will look ghastly to you in a couple of years. You will think what the hel was I thinkingl. Such is fashion.
❤️ Don't under estimate yourself or your talent. You are well versed in style and present yourself professionally. Surround yourself with supportive people who love you and you will go far!! Love n prayers
Thanks for your insightful comments Lydia! I am going to watch again and take notes. I have always rejected the girly style even though I have an hourglass shape which is really hard to fit with dresses so I tend to wear masculine looking clothes. I have just turned 65 and still love fashion so your tips have come in time for me to reinvent my look! Keep up the great work Lydia! Love it! Linda from Melbourne, Australia.
I'm just about to turn 60, so have seen all these styles come and go. So glad I have found her site, as it is very helpful . Never been girly either tho did try it for a short while, now all those dresses are being paired with chunky boots and leather jacket. Much more comfortable 😌
Love this video Lydia. As usual you are breaking it all down for us in an understandable way. And I'm very glad to see the end of that all-over tight look.
I loved this video. One of my favorite of yours. I'm 50 and tend to dress a bit fitted (jackets for exemple). One thing i should mention is you are young and let me tell you oversize jeans don't look the same on older women and pleated pants look outdated. My mantra is if you wore a trend 10 to 20 years ago, it probably won't be for you on the second round. But I love the tips about wearing a more fitted blazer wight more flowy pants. I also love that you take the time to show us the before and after. you're doing a great job!
It's so refreshing to see so many comments defending the idea of individual styles and what fits each body well regardless of the yearly passing trends, some that are hardly flattering on anyone like the over oversized pants, and to see people reminding others that shaming those not following a current "style" is not cool. I only clicked on the video to see if there are common sense comments like that and I was pleasantly surprised. The video itself seems like yet another "copy others, wear this now, dump it in three months" fast fashion video.
Hey sweets, loving your channel. Like some of your ladies here I am older, heading towards 60 in a few months😱, but still loving style. I think whatever age you are mistakes can still be made, and your videos do help. The biggest thing I've got from watching you is the sandwich or the balance between top and bottom and oh my goodness that has helped.
Hello Lydia! You are fashion wise beyond your years! When I was your age (haha, that sounds so motherly or something) I didn't really give fashion a thought! I'm more into now in my 60's and your thoughtful classy way of styling clothing is wonderful!! Keep up the good work!!
Curious what you think about wearing an hermes or Gucci smaller belt and still carrying a designer bag like a ysl leather bag? Those are the two things I wear a lot together. So you think just one at a time? Or if the bag is more simple it’s ok? I still love my canvas LV bags and wear those with logo belts as well. Thoughts?
Don’t listen to the bitter betties. I appreciate your tips. It has helped me to have a more balanced wardrobe and look tons better without having to buy anything new. Just a few adjustments has made a huge difference. Thank you!
I love your tips and how you simplify how to make these tips work. Though you may cringe at a completely feminine outfit, I think you look so dang pretty in that style. 🙂
I feel so old. You are talking 5 years back. OMG. I was a kid in the 80s, a teen in the 90s, a mid 20 in the '00s and I feel that we all have seen this before. My mother told me every time I said to her: Hey mom, look! This is totally trending now, she would reply: Oh, we wear that too back in my days. 😀(Except the low waist jeans, that was new to her and she didn't like it at all!
Thank you for the logo mania comment! I sold most all of my logo designer bags because they are so overplayed. And, that over saturated Gucci belt - thank you!!!
I actually loved the first look with skinny trousers…as myself who tend to have more fat on the top part of the body the, boxy trousers would make me look even bulkier…🤔
You seem to be very negative and judgemental towards anything that is not trending on the instagram at the moment. I think you will very soon be *cringing* (using your words) at the outfit and jewelry you're wearing in this video. Fashion comes and goes and a sense of style is permanent.
Lydia, such honest and thoughtful suggestions for contemporary yet feminine clothing choices. You have helped me so much make smarter purchases for my wardrobe. You help me see things in a whole new way, thank you!!
Love how this video shares opinions without apologizing. I also love how Lydia’s clothing is all so tasteful that the “bad” outfits are so subtlety bad (atleast to me… someone who needed this video).
Love your content. Regarding your comment about florals how would you suggest one dress in a hot tropical climate. I see so many bright colors and florals. Thanks.
Some alternative to florals (even though I love love florals !) and won’t stop wearing them are things like pastels Beautiful neutral light linens items colors in ivory white beige or cream Light silk blouses dresses maxi skirts or silk pants Lovely coord 2 piece sets Palm print anything Chiffon Beautiful mesh cover-up Very soft lace Lots of natural fibers like breathable cottons I’m sure Lydia will have other phenomenal suggestions that are chic also!
I lived in fiji for 3 years, I can’t /won’t do florals. I had linen in colours that suited me…clear turquoise with depth and with red buttons, bright salmon pink, white, sage green. Etc. I did not like silks they are clammy. Linen is brilliant. Fabric store online in usa has a big range and patterns. Very easy. It doesn’t pick up odours, doesn’t rot repels micro organisms, cool.
I have about 10 years that I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis that change My life for good I maight say. Most pieces un my closet are being more cautious. My worst season is being summer, since My younger age, and way before My MI situation. And with that, I shop my closet un a Smart way. Like getting new tops, that I can add a season garment on fall
What I appreciate is how we can keep it classy and fresh without aging us. Overdone logos and the little girly flower prints are driving me crazy! brands are still pushing it. I tend to go for feminine hair and makeup and edgy clothing a little masculine. Some of the baggy looks for us curvier girls can be tricky for sure. Love your sweater and the hair tucked behind the ears 👌🏻great look
Oh thank you i feel so much better now. I never liked the overly feminine look and tought something was wrong with me.. its like i had to wear combats or a leather jacket or *something* just anything that would break the overy head to toe feminine look and what you said is the reason why. So glad that it s now a trend to mix 💙 i was thinking for sooo many years that something was wrong with me, but you really made me feel better
I must admit I really like the way you pair clothes very much. I think it's the perfect style for you, and luckily for you it also happens to be on trend. I love that white outfit. So amazing on you. And I agree that florals seem somewhat separate from you, almost like you played dress up. It's really great how well the current trends suit you. Sadly not on me, but I really like your balance rules. I find it quite interesting to look at the tips and tricks you put out. Usually, I just have to tone the oversize down a notch and make it an oversize that is adapted to my smaller frame, so that I'm not overwhelmed by it. Your tips really help me to put balance in my outfits. It just looks very different from your pieces, because I have a smaller more rounded frame to work with, so I have to scale it down. But I'm impressed that a lot of your balance rules work anyway. It's very helpful. Thank you. 😊
I really love your channel! Thanks for for sharing your balancing techniques. So helpful! Plus, I appreciate how classic your wardrobe is. The more videos I watch, the less I dread getting dressed.
This was an amazing video! I also love how you advised that florals may come back into fashion (means I can hold on to them!). Could you do a similar video on shoes? I feel I’m still in the ballet flat phase whereas Gen Z has changed footwear completely into more Masculine style shoes..?
I would love advice on how to look good and baggier bottoms. I come from the skinny jeans generation and so I get self conscious in baggier bottoms as I feel like I look so heavy on the bottom. Any tips and tricks to balance that out
Really enjoy your videos Lydia. I feel like I need an update to my look from time to time. You and Fashion Jackson have dragged me out of my rut. Thank you
I love seeing these flashback looks and how they look dated now! Fashion is so fluid and yes a lot of it is to keep us buying but I think it's in part because we crave freshness and variety. It's fun to watch trends come and to think, Oh hell no! Then realize it actually looks good on you and you like it. Also maybe you have talked about this but I would LOVE to see your take on Emily in Paris fashion. She definitely goes hard with the girly logomania, but I have to admire how defiantly they styled her even if I dislike a lot of her looks.
Loved this video!! I like that you are very clear and opinionated about it because if I don’t want to know how to dress better I would click on another video
I loved the first outfit you showed, and trust me, if I looked that good in an all fitted outfit I'd strut about in it all day. However, I also loved how you changed it up with the wider trousers and could totally see your point. I also dislike florals, and anything frilly or too girly (on me) but sometimes you just can't escape them.
Oh wow,,, it is all true! But I m ambivalent.. theskinny jeans heel look is just a different statement to the better undated style with wide pants, so ist the scater skirt vs all white wide elegant style. The Trend now is this wide pants, elegant chic, feminine upgrown look. Can see it EVERYWHERE on insta etc. I do love it but it s almost uniform, but it does look more chique and elevated. I cry that fitted boucle are dated now. Bought some second hand this autumn, as I adore 60s yeye andBirkin Style and think of Romy Schneider meets Twiggy and B . Bardot in this feminine, sweet but untacky 60s style. I love it 😅 even when I m dated with it .. 😺
People need to stop taking these comments and tips personally. It is helping bring perspective. If you like following trends, you be you. But for those who strive for timeless, authentic pieces that do not age, then by all means take it on board. Fashion is fluid and individual to the person. So there really isn't a right or wrong way to dress.
I got a COVID and i found your channel. You are great, the best in RUclips. When I heal, hopefully I can be more modern. Greetings and lots of health to everybody.
Definitely my fave style blogger! ❤️ I love all your lessons! Esp the way you show how to transform the outfit by changing up one or two pieces so that we can get more use out of our existing wardrobes. I’m trying to find your past video of how to modernise skinny jeans? They complement my body shape so I want to keep getting use out of them 🙂
I enjoyed this video. The look I disliked the most was the all one style example. It can look like a costume. I have done this when I watched too many influencers and tried new trends. I see a lot of comments here about wearing classics, and that’s great. The reason this video is helpful is that none of theses looks are classic; they’re trends, so if you buy them because they are trending, then you’ll likely want to know when they’re not. I happen to like cropped jackets because I’m petite, but I might just make sure something about the cut or collar and texture is more up to date. It’s so funny when people write comments about not being interested in trends at all-after watching a trend video 🤔
I can’t believe you’re deleting comments that like the all fitted? they weren’t even negative just their opinion? give it a year you’ll be cringing at the Michelin man jumper you’ve got on here.
Lydia, hello 😊 would you please do a video on styling outfits with oversized, large sun glasses?? i purchased a squared solid black pair online and i feel they are ridiculously big. not sure if this is a silly fad? they were inexpensive and i might just throw away. or… perhaps im just not use to this look? 🤷♀️
Confused what half of you commenters are doing here… she has amazing style but if it’s not your thing find someone else that suits you. What’s the point trying to argue why you disagree with her, not everything is for you 🙄
Honestly, if you put all these pictures in a line up and asked me to the pick the "dated" ones, I couldn't tell! All these outfits looked great and timeless on you. That floral blazer is lovely, btw!!!
😂 LOL! I made some of these fashion faux pas & will try to keep it current. This was a fun video. I think a dated look are the cold shoulder tops. There are cuter & modern cut out tops that can be worn instead. Just my opinion. Thank you.🙏😊
I agree that skinny jeans are out of fashion but a great fitted blazer is never out of fashion, that tailored look. I think Tan France would approve, drowning in your clothes is never a good look! I love your style though and how you pull it off and you rock it! you look amazing and I get a lot of other tips from you, Lydia. It’s just not a trend for me. that’s what oversized blazers are right now, just a trend
Love your videos! I’m happy to see the logos go tbh I’ve always found ostentatious logos to be a bit tacky… I’m happy to see those fitted blazers go as well 😅 I’m loving this modern resurgence of the 70s ysl Mick and Bianca lines- clean and loose structure is so classically elegant and lends itself to such diverse styling options ☺️
@@elle8473 yes The popular kids did this lol
ie: short shorts, with baggy sweatshirt
And is the best for your figure!
Then why did you click on a video about fashion trends? I tend not to click on YT videos about things that don't interest me.
The reason these videos are controversial is because style is subjective people should wear what they feel comfortable in not what some influencer or the fashion industry feels they should wear or what's trendy.
Lol then why are u watching the video? E knew what this was when we clicked to watch it
Yeah but not all influencers are like Lydia - her opinion is so highly specific and biased.. she believes that skinny jeans and a tight fit are dated, while loose bottoms are not.
@@elle8473 but she makes it sound as if everyone should follow her instruction.
Yes, however, many of those trends are not one type/size fits all, and often flop….
Same here, it just doesnt fit as nicely as it does Lydia. I think we should try to wear what fits our bodyshape the most.
I am 4 foot 11, tailored clothes make me look less like a child wearing dress up clothes.
100%. Baggy blazers, baggy pants just looks sloppy. I looks like I’m 20 kilos heavier when I have tried baggy man pants.
Agreed
Totally agree. I didn’t like the way she berated certain styles just because SHE doesn’t think it’s a good look.
As you say, that attitude is what is not a “good look”.
Keep your fitted blazers ladies! They’ll come back. Great video
Agreed!
Sometimes even if you like a trend it may not feel good on your own body
haha exactly! Similarly, I've also been seeing some cropped jackets and cardigans that I had over 10 years ago too :)
Definitely. Fitted blazers are actually timeless
Really oversized stuff looks funny on everyone, even if you try to balance it with normal size clothes. I don't care if it's "modern and fashion" 😆
@@alleyinn1 I've seen some and it looked to me as if they were little girls wearing their mom's clothes.
Agree 👏🏽
@@JessOrozco , wondering how she has so many following..lol
Agreed!
Agree - the tone of the whole video was just all wrong. What you were saying about how you couldn't even demonstrate the "cringe" outfits because you don't own any of the pieces made me personally cringe.
@@ritarivera8279 Wondering the same 🙈
I'm very much into wearing things that fit my body and make me feel good regardless of trends. However, I really enjoy the explanations and variations you share! Always gives me ideas to mix and match and try different looks.
The all feminine look was gorgeous with the trousers! Everyone’s style is different and that’s how it should be.
Try baggy trousers high waisted and cinch in the waist with a belt. This looks very flattering on small, petite frames.
@@sandriais yeah, but where I live, in winter that waist will be nowhere to be seen, lol. It’s going to be covered by big down parkas.
Yes me too!! Good point
Some people just won't get it and that's okay too
Hopefully the oversized clothes will be "out" again in another couple years. It is truly unflattering on everyone. Thanks for the video.
Clothes look different on different body types. People will most likely still wear them even when they are out of fashion just because it works. Kids in the current generation tend to choose personal style over trends.
not on me tho
Line backer shoulders of her sweater is a great example of why I carefully consider fashion trends.
Exactly, I love them and would consider wearing them in a sweater regardless of fashion but not a coat.
Lydia I just love the way you have stayed true to your fashion principles and love of fashion as your channel grows . The educational value is amazing . I hate how other channels start off with a love of fashion but then morph into this aspirational lifestyle / product placement nightmare . Love your channel Lydia thank you
People you need to stop taking Lydia’s clothes comments so personal. She’s providing great info!!

I love florals and ditsy print. Especially the French Sézane type shirts. They look timeless and classy. I guess it depends on how you wear them.
Sure, and whether they suit your shape and personality. Nothing works for everyone.
Yes I think there are ways that it can be done and it all depends on the pattern and colours, but what I personally think those really bright florals like the ones I’ve shown are a bit dated now!
Agree. I love a Midi length Floral dress with chunky boots and denim / leather jacket. One of my fav look
Love this floral Sezane and Rouje french feminine, too..
I also love florals and think she is wrong on this one.
But, the ones she showed did looked dated.
Absolutely, I couldn’t agree more . Thank you!

So glad trends/styles have moved away from the all tight look. Loosely tailored balanced looks are classy, modesty is elegant
Yes agreed! ❤️
Yep and more comfortable to wear too!
Love the French style. So effortless whilst still

How do you feel about LV shawls with small logos?. It looks like a print design. Do you find it showy as well?
Absolutely! 💫🤓👌🏻🦋🙏🏻✨💃🏽

There are a lot of appearance in the comments. To me Lydia IS a style queen and she hits the nerve ( of the time). Definitely.
I reapt myself:
It is a question of the priority: Looking fresh, up to date and different to the looks which have been around 5 yrs ago..ditch the skinnys and scater skirts.
The wide elegant looks super and I LOVE it ( on me) but then I do look
very seriös/ elegant but not ‚ youngish feminine.
I m

I live in FL- tropical florals and hibiscus prints will never not be a thing on the beach,

I live in the Bahamas so bright colors and floral prints are forever a staple for us too lol
I like that your outfits aren't too tight even though you have the figure to pull those looks off. Continue to keep it feminine and classy!
Exactly. I agree
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️
Yes, they do still look good on her, but I do get her point that they're not the Pinnacle of trendy or what everyone is lusting over on Pinterest.
Although you make some good points, your tone here lets you down. Publicly cringing makes you come across judgemental, condescending, and like a mean girl who gossips about others’ outfits. I usually find you very inspiring and professional.

The “all feminine” look reminds me of Freddy My Love 🥰 I really like the bow blouse!
Thanks Lydia for always coming through with brilliant tips. I'd like to add the neon color trend! Mixing neons together or with black, cringe!
Hello Lydia! You are fashion wise beyond your years! When I was your age (haha, that sounds so motherly or something) I didn't really give fashion a thought! I'm more into now in my 60's and your thoughtful classy way of styling clothing is wonderful!! Keep up the good work!!
They are helpful to me. Not everyone has “an eye” for these things and we need it spelled out!
Thoughts?
The fitted, very girly look= Forever New, they just don't feel like they need to change.
Love all your tips. All the cutaways showing what does not work anymore, and then how to update it. So useful.
Thanks.
Some alternative to florals (even though I love love florals !)
and won’t stop wearing them
are things like
pastels
Beautiful neutral light linens items colors in ivory white beige or cream
Light silk blouses dresses maxi skirts or silk pants
Lovely coord 2 piece sets
Palm print anything
Chiffon
Beautiful mesh cover-up
Very soft lace
Lots of natural fibers like breathable cottons
I’m sure Lydia will have other phenomenal suggestions that are chic also!
Love the idea of keeping pieces you love even if you don't love them too much anymore/they are dated and pulling them out again in the future!
yes the second look was almost baby doll, smart switch!
Still working on outfit balancing but I’m definitely getting better thanks to you ☺️💜
Love that! ❤️
Your camera quality on this video looks so good. Love these - thanks again for your suggestions - so helpful xx
Ahh that’s so lovely of you to say! We really appreciate the feedback! Thank you ❤️
What I appreciate is how we can keep it classy and fresh without aging us.
I LOVE how the all feminine style looked on you 😭❤️
Loved this video!!
I think Lydia has great style, agree with all of her recommendations! Classic, timeless and on trend.
They complement my body shape so I want to keep getting use out of them 🙂
I love your tips and it's a really pleasure watching your videos!!
It’s comical looking
Thank you.🙏😊
Lol I loved your feminine, logomania and fitted outfits 😂
I agree that skinny jeans are out of fashion but a great fitted blazer is never out of fashion, that tailored look. I think Tan France would approve, drowning in your clothes is never a good look! I love your style though and how you pull it off and you rock it! you look amazing and I get a lot of other tips from you, Lydia. It’s just not a trend for me. that’s what oversized blazers are right now, just a trend
we do not hear any noise. Thank you for practical, knowledge and style wisdom
Love your channel so glad I found it ..you're by far the fashion guru of utube .
