  • I have needed to make a set of T-track hold down clamps for quite a while now. Ever since I made my crosscut sled I have had to go without clamps until now. And of course this can put the fingers in danger when they get to close to the blade.
    So I quickly sketched up a design in Sketchup and made these out of walnut and maple. The brass knobs were custom made by Austin over at High Caliber Craftsman. Be sure to check out his links below.
    If interested you may download the free plans for these clamps from my website.

    There is that walnut! LOL. Thanks for mentioning my channel, man. To answer your question, my most important safety equipment is my first aid kit. I think it is the most important thing in the workshop and is forgotten by many woodworkers. That's why I wrote a blog about it on my website. Make sure to check it out, there is also a free checklist that you can download. I love the trick with the salt! Those clamps look really good. Well done and a nice video too!

      Ah yes, very good answer! Admittedly I do not have one in my shop but do in the main house. I should definitely bring one up to the shop. I'll be sure to check out your website👍 Thanks for watching!

    a lot of these videos on RUclips, I think this is the best I've seen. Appreciate your demeanour and maturity. And the product turned out beautifully, much nicer than most I've seen. I subscribed. Thanks very much for the PDFs. And people don't realise how much better-easier-these hold down clamps are than conventional clamps

    Little tip from scrollsawing. Put blue painters tape to cover surface on wood, or I prefer clear plastic film, before spraying adhesive for paper. Peels off easy

    I'm binge watching some of your videos this morning, nice build. I made some hold downs, but not this nice! I found an easier way to get glued patterns off your wood projects. A cheap (Harbor Freight) heat gun. It loosens up the glue and most times you can peel the pattern right off. A little denatured alcohol will remove any residue.

    • @LTDWoodworks
      @LTDWoodworks  3 года назад +1

      Thanks! Since this video I’ve actually started putting down a layer of painters tape first. Then I spray the adhesive on the tape and apply the pattern. Once done it all peels right off👍 Works great except for scroll saw work where all the fine dust gets in between the tape and the wood releasing the pattern. So maybe your way would be good for that👍

      @@LTDWoodworks Haven't done a lot of scroll saw work lately but that's where I learned the heat gun trick. Blue tape idea is good also! :)

    I said brain. What do I win? A pair of those clamps? Everybody seems 2 put those dowels on their clamps. Can u tell me the purpose of them?

    • @LTDWoodworks
      @LTDWoodworks  2 года назад

      Ding ding ding... we have a winner!😉 The purpose of the dowels that are cut in half length wise is to serve as a pivot point. The bolt that runs through the dowel and turn knob allow the front end of the wood clamp to raise and lower. So that dowel is what actually applies the pressure downward when the turn knob is tightened. Hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any other questions and that's for watching!

      Thanks 4 ur reply. I bought a very small piece of purple heart, just cause it was so pretty. So, I thought I could let it sit around, or actually do something with it. I used the purple heart on the outside, of course, and poplar n the middle. Turned out pretty cool. I saw a vid where someone used it 4 runners on a sled! I about died. At least u can c mine.
