I grew up going to this park. From the mid 60's on, I have always loved going to Lagoon. So much history not mentioned in this video, like some of the chart topping music acts that performed there in the past are definitely worth mentioning. While I was too young to remember them, I have heard of so many amazing concerts that were seen at Lagoon. Hendrix, anyone? I still remember when the rock tunnels inside Dracula's Castle rotated. There was also the original fun house (right next to the Terror Ride) that had large slides, a spinning disc, rotating barrel, "Mexican Hat" and the initial obstacle course that had air blasts from below. The penny arcade in the 70's was incredible. Anyone else remember the old pool? Not Lagoon-a-Beach, it was a huge swimming pool. While I miss the old, I am so glad to see the place I spent so much time, still thriving and making others happy.
Lagoon has always been my “home” theme park despite growing up more 2.5 hours away. Since the age of 26, I moved to a major city that has two theme parks. One being a Six Flags. Naturally I’ve been to both several times. We purchase season passes to the Six Flag Park nearly every year. On top of that, thanks work obligations, I travel from coast to coast, and everywhere in between, year round. If there is an amusement park within a couple of hours of me, I try to stay a couple of extra days. I can usually get at least one of my colleagues to join me. In all honesty, there has only been one park that compares to Lagoon and that’s LEGOland in San Diego. Universal Studios was up there too. But the Disney parks, the two parks within 30 minutes of me... none of them come close to the Lagoon experience. And that includes parks with an integrated theme hotel. My name is first on the list when it comes to SLC assignments. With an hour’s deviation, when traveling home, I can easily work Lagoon into my plans. My colleagues never believe me when tell theme that their is a better place than where we are. I love proving them wrong. Unfortunately, living up to the Lagoon experience is difficult task. If you can, go!
Lagoon has a very special place in my heart. Not only did I grow up go here every year I also worked for Lagoon for 3 seasons. In 1994, 1997, and 2000. I worked in foods my first season (94). Then I worked in Rides. I have had the best memories working for Lagoon. I operated the following rides; Tidal Wave, Speedway Sr. (now gone), Speedway Jr., Helicopters, Baby Boats, Bulgy the whale, Terroride, Dracula's Castle, Sky Coaster, Scaliwags, Musik Express, and Rock O Plane. I remember staying late nights after closing to help clean the water trough of Puff, and Baby Boats. I also would assist in cleaning Roller Coaster as well as the beloved Carousel. It was an unforgettable time. I still have my name tag to this day along with my last uniform shirt.
i remember as a child riding ROLOPLANE which was by ROCKOPLANE! i can'e seem to find any photos or history of that ride in the park! i'm 54 yrs old now ! I remember riding that ride in the mid 70's ! maybe you may know where i can find pictures of that ride in the park! thanks!!
@@grudgesgalore8666 Sorry for late reply. To answer your question: There is a website and a RUclips channel called Lagoon History Project. It has photos and videos of past and present attractions. I hope that helps.
I live in Utah, near SLC (basically Mormon capital but it isn't as bad as you would think) and this always has been my go-to theme park. I've been here almost every year for my whole life with family and friends and it's pretty fuckin' neat. My parents and grandparents used to go here as kids as well way back when. Lots of memories here, it's definitely a hidden gem. It doesn't have the most thrilling rides in the world but goddamn if Cannibal isn't stepping it up a notch. By the way, this park looks amazing at night (Colossus, Lagoon-a-Beach, Wicked and a few other places look really cool), shame there isn't much night footage on the internet.
nice, i always thought Mormon capital too, but I guess only 20 to 25 percent of the population is LDS, doesn't seem right to me, but look it up. ;-) p.s. what is Cannibal?
Nice, I have not been in 14 years, wana go wana go wana go, my grandpa ran the rollercoaster for over 30 years and sold property to Lagoon for Pioneer Village, so every week visiting grandma and grandpa we would sneak under the fence and go to Lagoon as kids for hours on end, remember all the games? can I borrow your residential parking pass when I go to frightmares? LOL, just kidding.
i'm 54 i was born in UTAH! there was a ride in the 70's that i rode for the 1st time ever at LAGOON! it was called ROLOPLANE it was near where ROCKOPLANE is !! i believe there is a smoking place to smoke cigarettes there where the ride stood!!! i can't seem to find any history about that ride being in the park! i remember it being there!! i rode that ride! maybe you can help me find history about that ride being at LAGOON! thanks!!!
I love Lagoon, gone there nearly every year since I was child. Haven't been for a couple of years though, definitely need to make it a point to go back soon. I'd recommend spending a day there if you ever take a trip to Northern Utah.
I miss the Fun House. So very glad they've kept the dark rides at Lagoon (Dracula's Castle and Terror Ride). So classic. Dark rides are a dying attraction. I love the fact that they're keeping them alive.
I like how the changed terroride, yet I hate it. it's a very historical ride and they butchered it. yet, it is way cooler. dracula's castle is still here for a visit to a old dark ride, although the toke out the dragon and put in the gorilla from terroride a long time ago, which was then transfered to physco dave's junkyard during frightmares. The funhouse of fear at frightmares is supposed to be the fun house coming back but demented
i live in ogden now sence last year,i just got back from lagoon last night. ive been to that park 6 times this year with a sesson pass and a parking pass love lagoon never gets old
I literally live like 2-3 minutes away from Lagoon! I saw the cannibal get built from my school window. I have ridden on every single roller coaster. I would most defiantly go to Lagoon if you want to have a good time!👍🏻
I just got through watching this video about 30 times and by the way, very well done and classic too. and I always drink Bud Light in the can when I watch it. Because its the only BEER you can get in your cooler. The BEER GARDEN was just added in 2019 so now LAGOON has BEER!
I know I’m biased considering my mom ignored the “don’t ride while pregnant” rule and oddly enough colossus fire dragon is still one of my favorites, been riding since before birth and all. But all in all Lagoon is a great park, they mix the classic with the new trying to have the best of both worlds and succeeding as far as I can tell. My kids love the train and family area. If you’re passing through it’s definitely worth spending a day.
It is the best. You get to ride the most rides and experience the most variety of rides. You never have to wait too long. This park sucks you in with its landscaping alone. If I couldn’t ride the roller coasters, it would be worth the fee just to walk around.
Wow! glad I came upon this video! I haven't been to Lagoon since the '60's (young teenager then!) Great place! Thanks for dredging up fond memories! (BTW do they still have the "hand cranked "railroad"?? Thanks again!
Although not growing up in the area I visited the LAGOON park twice. Once with my parents & a few years later when visiting friends in Salt Lake City. In remembering the experience I was sorry to learn that the amazing Fun House had to be closed down in the mid 1980‘s. I think it was the best Fun House I ever experienced although the one in Pacific Ocean Park in Los Angeles (or was it Santa Monica?) & one at Jantzen Beach near Portland, Oregon were stiff competition. Neither of those 2 parks exist anymore as far as I know but POP in Santa Monica may still be operational in some way. The best of the 3 for me still was in the LAGOON Park but safety & operational expenses contributed to, its closure so I heard. The building where the Fun House stood is still there, I hear, but is used food services & office space apparently. Many fond memories remain however.
Great video again, I really liked the Fun House attraction when I was a kid, now its closed. I've been on all the adult rides and Lagoona Beach too. But The Cannibal is my favorite ride. To date I've rode I over 102 times. to 2018 If you come here avoid Saturdays and Friday nights too busy.
I was in JR High when The Log Flume opened up, and It was my favorite ride at that time. I remember it and Colossus The Fire Dragon was also new. and In 1975 it was a Lagoon day at my jr high at Union middle School,. Also Lagoon would try to sell pictures of us after riding the Fire Dragoon , wow how time flies . To this day I've ridden Colossus over 900 times. and Cannibal over 200 times.
I literally grew up going to lagoon beginning in the late 60's. I can still smell the petunias on the midway. I loved being there at night when it cooled down and everything was lit up. Mom and dad would pull to the front,we would get our all day, all ride pass, and they would cut us kids loose until around 9 or 10 pm. They would say, "Meet back up at the dime toss by the bathrooms by such and such time"....
Hey thanks for asking. I am no longer releasing these with In The Loop. I have gone on to make a few more on some rides and attractions. Also www.slidersofghosttown.com AND I have a big one coming soon.
This is an interesting video, I did not know most of Cannibal was manufactured nearby. I'll be making my first visit to Lagoon in June and I'm looking forward to experiencing the park in its entirety from Cannibal, to the classic Bill Tracy dark rides, to the historic Pioneer Village.
Yep. Lagoon is not the biggest or most thrilling park in the world, but it's absolutely dripping with history and nostalgia. And I eat that kind of stuff up. I've never met an out-of-towner that wasn't pleasantly surprised with the park.

When he started talking about Cannibal, I thought he said, "2015 welcomes Canada." They knew about Canada all along but told us it simply didn't exist.
Name The Log Flume is the only ride from Arrow at Lagoon, but was originally from a park out in Washington I think it was. But interestingly enough, Dal Freeman who designed Wicked, Bombora, and Cannibal has been working with Lagoon since the 90's once he left Arrow, so the park still has some extreme ties to the company that way.
Dracula's castle is about my 2nd favorite it doesn't scare me it's just EXTREMELY LOUD! I have to plug my ears lol! We always go on it first since it's right by the entrance can't wait to go on it when it opens back up in April! :D
For those that want to come, a tip: since Utah is heavily populated by Mormons you can take advantage of this and go on a Sunday. Especially if you time your trip to come during the off season with Frightmares. They have the place all painted up for Halloween and you can avoid dealing with long lines. I went last year and while I still had to wait to get on the Cannibal, it was the span of one ride before I got to go on around roughly 1 pm where you'd think the line would be out of the park by then.
And also Lagoon is basically one of the granddaddies of modern video gaming. Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari found his feet after graduating from the University of Utah by working in Lagoon. So Lagoon has had its fingers in many entertainment venues.
I have gone on literally every ride in this park. This park is my childhood.
Also Cannibal is 10/10
I've gone every year ever since I was born
+Mandy me too every. Year on my b-day ❤️❤️❤️💛💛💛💚💚💚💙💙💙💜💜💜

I love lagoon I buy a season pass every year
when lagoon opens from winter I'm going to go on the cannibal wish me luck!
also a movie seen was filmed there in the luck of the irish
And also Lagoon is basically one of the granddaddies of modern video gaming. Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari found his feet after graduating from the University of Utah by working in Lagoon. So Lagoon has had its fingers in many entertainment venues.
