  • In 1926, CT Snidow began developing an amusement park in Mercer County West Virginia. The park was popular throughout it’s existence, however, there were a number of tragic events that occurred on it’s property that would ultimately lead to it’s closure. The park officially closed shortly after in 1967.
The park remained abandoned up until the mid 1980s when Gaylord White and the White family decided to buy it to restore and turn into an amusement park. The park operated from 1987 to 1990. In the early 1990s while working on a tract of land for mud bogging they began finding artifacts likeArrowheads, pottery, and tools so they decided to stop and hire professional help figure out what they were finding. A team from Marshall University came in and spent several years excavating artifacts and then bodies… The site of Lake Shawnee Amusement Park was also the site of a Native American burial ground.
Special thank you to Chris White who did a fantatic job with the tour and was kind enough to allow me to film him for a special story. Book a tour of your own using the link below and also be sure to go to the Dark Carnival!

When they flash the map of the US there’s a hidden QR code taking us to the Abandoned amusement park lake Shawnee site. Maybe something about the history is another hint of what’s going to happen…

Great job on the video Mark! I love it! So informative and great shots about everything we learned. This is Jon from Massachusetts that Adalberto and I got to share the amazing experience with you! Thank you so much for the shout out in the video!!!!! Thank you for the advice too and hopefully can get something started. I love your format with them and great commentary! Staying at night was pretty awesome of an experience and the slaughterhouse at the dark carnival was like a horror escape room it was really good and different type of haunted house. We survived the night camping and Chris was great and told us more stories. After we left there we visited and abandoned high school, West Virginia Penitentiary and today went to the Cresson Prison and Sanatorium in Lilly, PA which I highly recommend! Looking forward to seeing more of your videos and I hope we cross paths again!

Thanks so much for watching and reaching out! I’m very jealous I didn’t stay the night and check out the dark carnival. I’m still new to this and need to plan things a bit better but I’m learning! Those places are going to go on my list of places to see next. If you want to start making videos and have any questions feel free to reach out and also we could potentially collab on a video sometime!

He gave me his first and last name, repeated a word I asked him for and when I asked how many spirits were with us he said 5. Very cool place for sure :)

I was visiting there a few years back from California. Mitchell and Phoebe Clay were my 6th great-uncle and aunt, and their children were my 5th great-cousins. I wanted to see where the massacre took place.
I felt like you did in that it didn't feel creepy to me, but I scared the living crap out of my friend. He didn't want to go into the park and stayed in the car instead. I was walking back to get into the vehicle while he was reading, and my shadow crossed his line of sight. His scream made me laugh the entire ride back to the hotel.😂

That’s amazing! I really think it has to do with the atmosphere of the day I went. It was late October but easily the nicest day of the month. Sunny 70 degrees light breeze etc. I think had I stayed the night I would have felt a lot different. I definitely plan on going back!

Idk if I can believe the Shawnee burned the kids. straight up, not theyre way of doing things. I can only think that family was so terrible it was revenge but even still. That is so far from their beliefs. Sounds like propaganda to prop up the ‘savage’ narrative.
