As an engineer, I remember scoffing at the sheer ridiculousness of, well, everything in this movie, but as I watched it, I got hooked. It's actually a fantastic, scary, exciting ride. There are some scenes that are disturbing enough to stick with you forever. It's a really stupid movie, sure, but definitely not a forgettable one.
This is one of my favorite popcorn flicks. I love it's humor and entertainment value, the idea is interesting and engaging and the dramatic moments don't overplay themselves. I feel bad for every characters death but the humor helps to balance it out
It's weird tho because while The Core's humor has characters laughing at themselves and the plot, they do so in a way that feels real within the world of the movie. The characters in the movie act almost the way we would react given we were in the same situation(s). Genius writing really.
As a kid, I loved the humor and the adventure of it, and even then I knew the physics were absurd and it didn’t matter to me. As an adult, who has received an education in film study and production, I have an even greater appreciation for this film. In my opinion, from a production and storytelling perspective, this movie is extremely technically correct and is an example that I turn to when talking about character development and how to craft your story around that character development. For me, This movie has always been about the characters. They are memorable, they are well developed with remarkable efficiency, every story beat is a character moment, nothing happens in this movie without a purpose. Every main and supporting character had their own character arc and there didn’t seem to be any extraneous characters or scenes. You learn remarkably little about these characters but each of them feels like they each have their own robust history, and you can clearly see how it changes throughout the film and that every change has a reason for it and you see how those changes affect the group dynamic. Probably my favorite character in this movie is Zimsky. Stanley Tucci plays this role extremely well and it’s written in such a way that when he sacrifices himself, he has grown astronomically. He goes from being pompous and full of himself believing he is a genius and a hero but beneath the surface, fragile and insecure, and actually becomes a hero who is worthy of the redemption that his character gets. It’s for reasons like this that I still manage to tear up when Zimsky and Brazz have their final moment when Zimsky acknowledged that it was Brazz’s ship but wished that it had been “ours”. Then you wrap it all up with a line about how the most important thing that man can come to learn is themselves. Well done, well written, well acted, well produced. The physics are awful, but this movie is about the characters and not the physics.
I just watched this movie with no prior knowledge of it, and I thought it was hysterical and fun! It was very apparent that it was all tongue and cheek and so over the top that it wasn’t meant to be taken seriously. I’m actually kind of surprised anyone would even think it was meant to be serious because the level of camp and over acting is off the charts! I laughed out loud MANY times throughout. Comedy gold!
I have worked with enough Frenchman to know that when serge shouts “it’s a disaster while laughing “ it absolutely encapsulates the french attitude towards such things. It’s exactly what a Frenchman would say. Loved that line!
I remember watching this movie when it premiered on the SyFy channel. This is a good movie with decent CGI, great music, and a great cast. There was a couple heartbreaking moments too. It's pretty sad that people don't like this movie and critics bombed this film to no end because it's not "scientifically accurate"; pretty stupid reason to shit on this movie. It's a fun popcorn flick to watch after a hard day at work. Actually, I wanna watch this movie again sometime. I'm glad you like this :)
I'm a huge scifi fan and what's hilarious to me is that nearly EVERY scifi flick has terrible or unproven/ridiculous science. that is usually a core component of scifi
My favorite scene was when Hillary swank meets Eckhart's "souped up CAT scan machine" and people are casually walking behind x rays that can penetrate 3 feet of lead while the dialogue takes place. Then Swank walks in front of it (probably receiving a lethal dose of radiation) and nobody reacts at all. There's other moments like this, like when they're building the machine and a crane carries a massive robot arm over the heads of the workers and it just hanging from a tow strap that looks like it spent a year in the bed of a pickup truck. So much good stuff.
I enjoyed how you did not give a glowing review of the movie. However, you gave a critical understanding of it. Personally, it’s one of my favorite movies because I love the fantastic ideas that it presents. However, from your perspective, I can see how there is a version of humor that resides inside the movie that I never really noticed. I love your music that you added to the editing process that also gave it such a quirky vibe I’m a long time fan of this movie so that is my two cents on it. I hope you have a great day.

Movies like The Core or Tremors fantastic, well written, brisk 90 minute movies that I think Hollywood really needs to make more of. These studio gobbling Marvel movies and huge flops that keep taking up budgets and ad time need to be dialed back. MAKE CINEMA FUN AND INTERESTING AGAIN

I got here because I rewatched the movie for the millionth time. There's something about it that makes it exciting for me every time I watch it, and for me, it never gets old!
Whenever I bring this movie up w friends or family who have engineering backgrounds or degrees, they all say they love it OR it inspired them to get into engineering, geology etc. Apparently the "big ol' laser drill" isn't the silliest proposition when it comes to "how would you tunnel into the earth" ideas, too.
@@FilmFlux I think it’s the problem solving and “building your way out” aspect of the story, dubiously accurate or not. Like the first part of Iron Man.
This reminds me of the 60s cold war film- The Fantastic Voyage (which marvel comics The Fantastic 4 may have been based on) The whole idea may be silly at first, but who knows if the Earth's Core could be unbalanced by global warming or because of nuclear testing, Earth quakes drilling etc
My problem with this movie is that our "science teacher" made us watch this movie, but when me and my buddies were laughing and making fun of the movie the teacher told us to be quiet and told us "remember you need to write a review with what you learned about the Earth with this movie"....

The core's science is all over the place with some good science and a lot of bad which would have killed everyone on the team if it was real life but love the film anyway BTW the swarm as Michael Caine doing his I have never seen the film, but family member loves the house I brought for them stage in his career

Neither one of us are scientists/etc but we do grasp enough knowledge of... “I’m pretty sure *blank* doesn’t work that way” to recognize way over the top stuff. Like curving a bullet. We just have fun. They are called “Oh I’m so sure” movies because whenever she sees some way out their real life breaking BS, she goes “oh I’m so sure” out loud. It always makes me laugh.
Sure, it's a preposterous plot. Utterly ridiculous. But, there are some really great moments and the cast is invested. If you can get past the nonsense, there's a lot to like.
I laughed most of the way through because almost none of the scenes or decisions from the characters made any sense. I was in tears when aaron ekhart and Stanley tucci each had their bitch fits only to be completely calm in the very next scene for no apparent reason. The lines about nonsense science babble were hilarious. Also why did the general seem to command every branch of the military and why was DJ qualls going around everywhere with the general including on an air craft carrier, even though he was a hacker they plucked off the street? None of it made sense.
Those bitch fits get me every time. I would have loved to hear what the direction on that was, if there was one. Or if Ekhart did it one day so Tucci did it the next.
I love this movie, it’s a good time, when I heard people bashed it for being stupid or “not scientifically accurate” I thought, yea it’s a movie, you’re supposed to sit back and enjoy the ride. And it’s a fun ride.

But it was a Mis-Information & Unrealistic Portrayal of a Regular City / John & Jane Q-Public’s Reactions. Even just in the 1st 5-6 minutes Opening Filmed Scene! : Strangers HELPING Each Other? So Racist that not enough Minorities died? Only 2 Seconds of only ONE Looter… stealing WHAT?!- a Brief Case!?! Why are the Hari-Krishna’s & Watchtower ( normally found on every corner of a Public Park) RUNNING!? Come ON Folks!!- THIS is Your Moment! World-is-Doomed, Yada, Yada.. so Gloat! As Many stated here too- IT’S A MOVIE!! Enjoy! With ( my opinion) a Great Assembled & Acting Cast all the way ! 80-90 years ago we only had Stop-Gap Filming of Claymation Aliens or Desert Lizards with horns & fins glued on them.
