The departed is unreal both as screenwriting AND in editing. Especially in editing. The pace is simply perfect altrough the movie. The first time i saw it I remember i was even disturbed by that. It's a simply wonderful movie. One or two imperfections would have made it one of the best in movie history. That opening, say - just jaw-dripping.
Every so often I get a notification that there's a comment on a video that doesn't get as many views and I get excited. It's even more rare for someone to say something about the channel as a whole. Your encouragement means a lot. Thank you kindly.
This is a great comment. It's concise, thoughtful, and compliments without getting gushy. I really appreciate it and I promise to keep it up. Thank you!
I don't think Alonzo was lying at any point, right up until they went to the Hillside Trece's house. It is only when they're sitting in the car after Roger is killed that you can hear Alonzo say on the phone ".. make sure the bathtub is clean homey.". Up until that point he had hoped to convince Jake to join his crew. It was only after he realized that Jake couldn't be turned to his (Alonzo's) world view that he realized he had no choice but to kill him. All through the movie up to that point he had been legitimately trying to recruit Jake. He genuinely liked and respected him.
Maaaaaaaan i love your videos. I am so glad i discovered your channel. Hope your channel becomes more views so that more people can see your work, 'cause the way you analyze the movies is just wonderful.
Your videos are very nice and well put, i thought that you have way more subscribers and viewers than you actually do. Keep it up man, I'm sure you'll make it big.
It's super common for that to happen. Fbi informants will be protected by the fbi but the local police will only ever have a hunch as to why they keep getting away and they generally keep their mouth shut. Can't be too naive about intelligence work in any country, this is based on a real story, and whitey Bulger really did get away with authorizing many many murders that the fbi allowed to happen.
It's never show don't tell! It's show AND tell. Both tools compliment each other. That's the way it's always, always been. So sick of this overly used phrase being misused ALL THE TIME!
@@Kuudere-Kun boy listen, movies need show don't tell or otherwise the film is boring. Its rare for a film to be good with just dialogue, for eg like 12 angry men, or the hateful eight
Holt shit. I've watched this movie like 6 times and didn't pick up on any of this...I suck. Wtf!? I really don't know as much of movies if I miss these subtle messages
I feel like, when we don't notice these things in movies, it means the movie did its job well. And also that we're going to spend our whole lives learning more about movies, which is kind of dope.

You’re creating a superb channel, and as a bonus, your voice is really pleasing.

This movie is a masterpiece and your analysis of this movie is spot on.
Very much appreciated. Thank you!
Finally something insightful.
Every other video on RUclips about the departed can't go beyond saying jack Nicholson secretly brings a hun on set, or
Thank you kindly. Now tell me more about this Nicholson legend ...
This is a great video.
It's concise, insightful, uses concrete examples and doesn't overstay its welcome.
KEEP IT UP!

nice analysis of that 1 minute sequence :)

Awesome analysis

i still don’t understand why FBI didn’t the tell the state police Jack nicholson was a informant for them..?
You know how interdepartmental things be. One hand doesn't wash the other.

Because the FBI is protecting his identity. If they go around and tell every agency that would kinda defeat the purpose

Great movie, you always choose the best stories ;)
I'll level with you Anna, in this particular case, I initially considered this movie because it was popular. SHhhhhhh ...
I never understood that movie
After watching the video, do you understand better now?
What's to undestand? It's the police and the mafia having a rat spying on the counterpart.
I hate Show don't Tell.
like as a writer or as a thing? Because it's far more enjoyable to watch something unfold than for all the characters to just sit and talk exposition.
@@theunderfold Not for me, I like watching actors sit around talking about stuff, that is the most inherently entertaining thing possible to me.
@@Kuudere-Kun You're looking for audiobooks. Have you considered today's sponsor, Audible? lol
@@theunderfold Most Audio books are one voice playing everyone, even the other gender which really awkward.
