the last game was actually really helpful to watch. watching a really good player like Tanner grabbing easy points vs 4.0s is helpful...it helps show me what "could be" easier if i just hustled a bit more and improved technique. thanks
At 1:10 you said, "everytime there's a short return your partner should drive it". What if the ball is low? I thought 'if it's low, go slow', meaning shots below the knee at the transition zone, you'd want to do a drop shot. Awesome format. You are a good coach / teacher. Very helpful insights.
Hey Tanner! After using the triform for a while, have you noticed any breaks in with the paddle? Did the sound change over time or anything like that? Also, do you use one overgrip over the stock grip? Thinking about buying it and using your code based on what you say. Thanks!
Thanks!! I have not had any break, and there is no break-in. From day one it is good to go. The sound did not change for me personally. I use the grip that is already on the paddle, then I put a CRBN overgrip over that and adjust it as necessary.
Excellent video Tanner. More of these please. Personally I get more out of seeing everyday players (like me) play and learning from their mistakes than I do out of analyzing professional matches (who have skills I’ll probably never have). Oh, and you should be ashamed of yourself telling your mom “it’s okay, you’re not going to hit many balls.” 🤣🤣🤣
This was fun and great to see tips while a match is happening, very helpful. I guess I'm too new because I wasn't fully sure what you were pointing out I think around 2:45 😂
I got a lot of that. Please do more of those. At the 4.0 level (for players like me) and the 3.5 level to help me think about those I coach. Thank you!
Great video! Great content! Will you be doing more of these? And if so, is there any way to be considered for your next video? I would love some live pointers and in-person coaching. And also a chance to get a True Foam paddle. 😂
Question about what you said in the Coach's Corner: you said that you speed up down the line when you get dead dinks out wide and the opponent doesn't have a Twoey Backhand, correct? So, you are saying to hit your forehand at their BH down the line?
Yes! It doesn't matter if its my (players) forehand or backhand, just when you see the opponent has their backhand down the line (left side player) speed the ball up down the line when you get the chance
That court is fabulous along with the house. How do you find someone who is knowledgable about building a pickleball court? We have plenty of space for one. Thank you for the lesson.
The gal could be a 4.0. The guys are solid 3.0- 3.5. I'm a 3.5 at best on a good day,.. and they don't intimidate me at all. I play against guys every day who would smoke these guys.
@@tanner.pickleballDupr is area dependent? I thought it was based on skill, the shot selection and shot execution and court positioning was that of a 3.5 at the highest.
This was awesome!! I know you give great advice, but to see you actually play??? I would NOT wanna be lookin' at you across the net!! Good video - your mom was a great sport!!
great points made in the game play. you mentioned that they practice and drill a few times a week. Maybe its how they drill and their mind set when they drill that is preventing them from improving. If you practice something a hundred times doesn't make it right, it means you hit it 100 times wrong. My wrestling coach use to tell me practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. take that with a grain of salt of course.
yep was thinking the same the rating in the US is weird because 4.0 level is for advanced players who can consistently hit shots like drop shots and volleys and these guys can barely hit a 3rd shot drop, they look more like 3.0 players to me
come on, they realistically play sound pickleball with less athleticism. Thats 4.0 all day.. 4.5 is where sound pickleball with athleticism. 5.0 is mastery. 5.5 is pro You're making the scale too wide.
@tanner.pickleball I'm 4.0 myself so it might be dumb to opine, but I think one thing that holds my bracket back is not understanding what increases our chance of winning (e.g. taking advantage of short returns) vs. what just feels good (e.g. high risk speedups). Then we see a game that doesn't have as many flashy, high risk plays and think "pshh they're barely 3.5" because it doesn't contain the things that make us *feel* like a good player (even though it's holding us back). The same dynamic applies to most competitive skills, I think.
The video was centered around not approaching the kitchen line properly to effectively apply pressure on weak returns. There were multiple examples of that. Then the female, Francesca did it the correct way for the viewer to see the benefits of it.
@@tanner.pickleball Ah, gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I guess I judged it too soon since I was hoping the "#1 mistake" would have been revealed explicitly towards the beginning of the video.
@ I’d be surprised if any of those people are above 60. Some of them look to be noticeably younger. Nonetheless, 4.0 is 4.0, or it’s supposed to be. I must have a different frame of reference.
@@tanner.pickleball probably just a different frame of reference for myself then. Love the job you’re doing Tanner. Match breakdowns are my favorite videos, pattern recognition, decision making, dinking pattern setups
