Hi All - as many of you have pointed out, there's a typo in the performance stats sheet for the TFG-3. Serve speed should be 56.9 MPH, not 86. I accidentally used the percentile (86th) instead of the MPH
Thank you for always being there to give us the skinny. Your reviews, science and sharing your reviews from both practical and advanced level at the same time is so rare and valuable. Thank you so much for your tireless work. Appreciate you brother
Thanks John for the extensive review. Answered all my questions and checked all the boxes for me. Kudos to the Cali boys for doing all that R&D put into this long awaited design. The interview with PB Effect was great. Think I'll wait for the new shape. Would prefer a curved head if possible.
John - excellent breakdown of the material, assembly and layup as usual. As an engineer (former Navy nuke officer) I am impressed with your attention to detail. Keep it up. Always enjoy your paddle reviews. And keep training and you’ll be better than 3.5 at best before no time 😂.
as long as players keep buying near $300 paddles, they will keep making them...thank you for Honolulu and REV for making GREAT paddles and not breaking the bank...you can almost get 2, TWO!!! for the price of the one paddle and not see major or minor drops in performance
John, it's absolutely true how the paddle first felt in my hand during my initial game with it. I have the TFG-1, and I couldn't give a clear answer when someone asked how it performs or what my thoughts were on it, so I let them try it out. I let these three people play with it and they were impressed. These guys were at a 4.0+ level competitive players for all you DUPR folks. Me... solid 3.0 😅
At 17:01, you talked about how your paddle only lost ~100-200rpm over a few weeks compared to 300rpm for other paddles. I'd love a video that shares the data you've collected about spin loss over time (just generally, not specifically for the Genesis though that'd be cool too). How many hours are you playing to see this much spin loss? How does it degrade over time? Also, thanks for not only this review but also the great interview with the CRBN founders, I loved it! Thanks John.
Amazing review John I think you and I align with a lot of our thoughts on this paddle. The biggest thing that I want to highlight is your assessment of power where it sits right under BANTAM. Although I would say that the Genesis paddles, in general have bigger sweet spot than your typical thermoformed paddles.
Love the fact that paddles are finally coming out not to be the most explosive or powerful but to have durability and spin and accuracy. The days of mod 15 just crushing the ball I hope if finally over. Golf did this years ago
Thank you John for all the hardwork in giving us quality reviews. It takes out the guesswork for consumers and followers of your channel who want to know the ins and outs of popular paddles. You always deliver! One question I would like to ask is the grit of the paddle face. How did it hold up to this point?
I played with TFG2 last night before release at The Hub San Diego. So paddle doesn’t have trampoline effect like Joola 3s. so ball doesn’t shoot off the paddle surface which was an issue for me. I was able to control the ball and shape the ball as needed and didn’t take much time as I played Joola 3s Scorpius. Paddle has amazing spin and lot of dwell time which really helped me. I can use my own power as needed and ball was not flying outside the court like Gen 3s. Played 3 hrs and fall in love with this paddle since it gives me enough power, control and I was able to shape the ball due to dwell time. John great review totally agree with your analysis as always :)
While at a recent PPA tournament, my son and I ran into a pro who gave him one of these new CRBN foam paddles. Super nice of him but my son only had it about 3 weeks (yes, before they went up for sale to the public) played with it only a handful of times and it's delaminated or broke. And it's so obvious with a loud clunk now every time it hits a ball. Just wanted to share our experience with it.
Been using this new paddle for a few weeks now. My serve speed increased 10mph with no extra effort and the control has become easier. I also have been able to increase my topspin returns and 3rd shot drops are dipping even more than the other CRBN paddle. This one is a keeper!
Thanks John. Agree with everything you said. I love the way the paddle plays but hate the handle. For $280 the handle should have been molded as you identified.
Thinking if the face bonding glue or adhesive is not as flexible as the foam in theory it will break away from the face and create delamination as pointed out further down in the comments. So will hard hitters effect the adhesive, warm weather, cold weather…..should be interesting to see, still the one year warranty so CRBN must feel confident or they would drop that down to 6 or even 3 months like many of the other manufactures have done.
1:50 that must be the vibration feel I get when not connecting with the ball right in the sweet spot. I agree that a more solid handle would feel better, and possibly make it more stable with more powerful hits.
Nice review as usual ! based on the charts, it seems like the Hybrid shape with a long handle could be great with this paddle (assuming will be between TFG-1 and TFG-2). TFG-2 by itself is a bit too balanced, losing more power than I would have liked to see.
I’ve played CRBN paddles since early 2022. After playing theTruFoam for a few days I can stay that the difference in feel between the 2X and the TFG2 isn’t profound. I haven’t checked your database but if I had a guess, pop is closer to the 2x 14mm than the 16mm. Power is a bit higher than the 16. Otherwise, it feels pretty similar. I found with the previous generation that spin decreased in 2-3 months and that my serves were losing pace. My hope is that durability improves.
It’s too heavy 😢. I’m not an engineer but I feel like a few more holes near the throat could have brought that swing weight down without affecting performance, but what do I know. Think I’ll hold out for the hybrid. Game is getting too fast need something lighter!
I have over 150 hours on my Pulse V and just ordered a J2K+. Standard J2K was my main before Pulse V. I may buy another Pulse V is if unhappy with the J2K+. Pulse V is holding up fine with the exception of spin. TFG2 would be tempting if not for the handle. The 50% off refresh of the J2K+ was what sold me as I wear grit down pretty quick due to excessive play/ball machine time. 4.0 player.
John, if the ball sinks into the core of these foam paddles more than it would into a “traditional” polypropylene honeycomb core, wouldn’t that actually increase the risk of the facesheets disbonding? Even if CRBN uses a highly flexible adhesive, more movement, even at a micro level, means an increase in chances for failure.
I went ahead and got a 2 which is probably not my smartest decision but I pulled the trigger. The more I think about it I am wondering if the grip portion of the paddle could be an issue. There is a lot of torque/pressure on the throat of the paddle when you swing it. Is there any concern the grip/neck could break like the older paddles use to?
I’m between the tf2 and the apes pulse V. I’m using a j3k pro and wanted to upgrade. I use a lot of spin in my game can generate my own power but also nice to have a paddle in which it takes less effort to have to hit hard. What’s your take on it?
To Jon and Eddie: I’m curious if you were to take your favorite paddles based on your individual play styles and group their radar graphs, are all the charts for those groups of paddles pretty similar? I’m just wondering if we are reaching the point where we could look at these charts and more quickly identify paddles that straight away we know would play well or be a good fit for our play styles…. Or if there are other smaller nuances that paddles have, that may not tell the full story…. I guess an example would be a group of paddles all having a higher twist weight that you think play similar, but then there is one that may have a lower twist weight score that maybe is an outlier and “appears” to not have a “good” sweetspot…..
@johnkewpickleball, you can't leave us hanging! You've been maining the 11SIX24 Power Vapor so if you were playing the gold medal match tomorrow at World's, which one you going with?

So I would definitely be more open to getting something like this knowing it’s not simply backed by say a 3 month warranty (which is kinda insulting by some of these other companies for a plastic and glued paddle)

Low twist weight and high swing, so it's harder to swing and has a small sweet spot, not nearly worth $280(or 252). The original crbn paddles were already overpriced at 220 so I guess this should be expected
@ for most players, paddles like j2k, Alecto or even AMA from Alibaba would work more than fine. No need to fall for this folks. Every month it’s going to be something new.
This looks like a poor design to me. What type of player is thus for, the wannabe banger? Or is it the numbers only tell 1/2 the story, which brings into question what good are specs? Everyone buys a paddle to fix something in their game. What problem does this solve?

@ for most players, paddles like j2k, Alecto or even AMA from Alibaba would work more than fine. No need to fall for this folks. Every month it’s going to be something new.
disappointing that they use foam on the handle
86 mph typo?
@@RyanKiel-c5w yes, typo
Girl Pacheco? You skate, bro? :D Do a kickflip!
This looks like a poor design to me. What type of player is thus for, the wannabe banger? Or is it the numbers only tell 1/2 the story, which brings into question what good are specs? Everyone buys a paddle to fix something in their game. What problem does this solve?
Lmao, is it ever worth it to spend $280 on an overhyped paddle?
280 bucks will definitely help you play better...😂😂 like everything in pBall a bunch of idiots runnin the insane asylum..
Another in depth and educational video. Thanks very much John!
