Honestly, besides the wonky music, chunky graphics, and slow framerate, this is a pretty accurate port all things considered. It's kind of amazing everything was included here.
Great video Austin! I didn't know that this game ever came out on DOS! I just checked a website called Mobygames.com and it did also come out for the Commodore 64. I like the NES music the best, but the sound in this DOS port kind of reminds me of sound from a Sega Genesis.
Yep, I did a Let's Play of it back in October (which is what this footage came from). It's not a bad port all things considered. Wish it came a year or two later though when smooth scrolling was much more common. That's its biggest issue. And VGA support would have been welcome too.
Yeah, agreed. It's rough to look at, particularly for people that weren't around when this released, but it was par for the course on MS-DOS machines and it's still pretty playable.
This game should've been called "Castlevania but lumpy."

When you get past the jank, it's still pretty fun.
This is still considered pushing the technical limits of PC's today.
🤣
I was just thinking about CV1 today. Had no idea there was a DOS port! 😀🤯
The music sounds like speakers were drowned.
Well is better than amiga version;P

The PC speaker is synthesized in this video. I assure you the real thing was significantly more painful.
Bruh stage 4 and 5 music....its backwards lol
Great video
Given how ill suited PCs of the era were at running sidescrolling platformers this isn't too bad.
