my interpretation of the queencard music video is that she did go out the night before she meant to get surgery, and because she knew it was happening she felt free. she was dancing and living it up with the girls that she idolized on social media (the other 5), but she keeps shifting into them they all keep turning into her, and it brings her to the realization that she doesn't need to get surgery to be the top bitch or be confident and beautiful or to have friends! she was the life of the party, one of the top crowd, the night before, and she hadn't had surgery! and then after she pulls out of it, she gets all these messages and texts, and now they all want to be like HER the way she felt about them previously. to me it's a message of "you dont need to look like someone to be who you want to be" but also in both allergy and queencard, we see that the other four girls aren't happy. yuqi and shuhua are always trend chasing. miyeon wants to be loved. minnie is lonely. it's also a message of "dont compare yourself to others, because they may seem like they have it all, but they have their own battles and might not even have the happiness you're aspiring to"

The overconfidence, the references to celebrities and movies, the ridiculous lyrics, the horrendous outfits...it's part of the genre. And the message is still super feminist, saying how no matter what you look like, you're a Queencard. Soyeon did a fantastic job. I still listen to this song on repeat cause it gives me such a confidence boost. Allergy on the other hand legitimately made me cry the first time I listened to it. The lyrics hit so close to home. The "Love me, love me, love me, love me, love me, want" part gets me every time idk why. It's so raw. Both songs are absolute masterpieces and deliver their message of self-love/acceptance so well, albeit in very different ways. As a very insecure girl in her mid 20s, I'm so thankful for (G)-Idle for making music like this, especially in the kpop industry.
Thank you so much for this reaction PD, I always look forward to your reactions. @@SylarzxI think it's because idols mostly cover up out of fear that they might be sexualized, but (G)I-DLE plays this "I don't care" sort of vibe which is why this person is saying that they like seeing that they are showing themselves in bra's.
@@liljozeebob411I’d actually say that rather than not caring whether they’re sexualized, based on nxde’s concept, it’s more like they’re trying to normalize that these things SHOULDNT be sexualized. Showing some skin, showing a bra strap - these are normal things, they shouldn’t be an indication of women trying to be sexy or be sexualized.
I just got the birthday line 😭 o never really payed attention to the lyrics fully but now that I did this song seems just like a big kiss to women, empowering them for just being themselves ❤ so cute, I really respct idle for this
my interpretation of the ending is pretty loose, but basically: soyeon was at the party (don't know how/why, MV's framing of her is purposefully misleading? yuqhua picking stuff out for her in Allergy could be related to the party, since they also did the same with miyeon later) -> saw how gorgeous everyone was at the party, felt like she was out of place/trying too hard -> tried to mimic them later, but felt bad about herself in the end (related: how she was dancing and happy alone in her room as her "usual" self) -> planned plastic surgery to relieve her complicated feelings -> change of heart at the last minute -> turns out she was totally bangin all along and everyone loves her, including her friends!
Allergy shows the party, but early on, I think, while Queencard shows the party later in the night. Initially everyone's insecurities were on display. Minnie being lonely despite being successful (which is why she's dating Miyeon's ex so she can feel a little like her). Miyeon is upset that Minnie is going out with her ex. Yuqi and Shuhua, who come off as the popular girls, are really posers who want to be like the American hotties. Soyeon, of course, just wants to be like everyone else. I believe that at some point in the party things change. Soyeon knows she's going to get surgery tomorrow so she decided to just let it all out (which, of course, gets her noticed). Miyeon decides to forgive Minnie which basically solves both Miyeon's and Minnie's plots; Miyeon let go of her ex while Minnie realized she already has a friend. Yuqi and Shuhua seem to be the only ones who don't get a happy ending. Remember they were the hot girls who were telling everyone to change who they are (both Soyeon and Miyeon), so the other members sort of defeat them at the party during the dance battle. Yuqi and Shuhua even are the ones who suddenly are envious of Soyeon when they see her the next day, which shows they didn't change. As for the Soyeon transformation shots, I think Soyeon is remembering the party, but inserting herself in the other's shoes while she's drugged up. So the events are her memories sort of jumbled. Anyway, those are my thoughts on the storyline.
there is a recording behind the scenes for queencard so it shows soyeon directing and then there is also live performance stage of queencard which was really good
Loving gidle for always giving neccessary commentry wrapped up in banger songs and concepts. Soyeon is a genius and I hope gidle will keep achieving great things. 💜
If you had seen the precursor videos introducing the characters (and previewing the songs from the album), it makes even more sense than just watching them in the right order.
i think the ending and soyeon's picture represents that she always had it in her to be the queencard. hence why she's constantly shifting in and out of reality replacing the girls - she wants to be more like them, but in reality (and as we see from the allergy music video) they also struggle just like her and they aren't that different from each other. i also love how at the end everyone praises soyeon and wants to hang out with her, because at first we're lead to believe that the other girls dislike her for being nerdy, but it turns out to be all a product of her own insecurities. also, you were pretty much spot on with the queencard/kingcard analogy, but i think (since the mv had white chick references and soyeon also talked about "i feel pretty" as inspiration for the art direction of the comeback, that the title might be inspired by the movie mean girls (another y2k classic), since its korean title is "퀸카로 살아남는 법"
Since you said you were looking forward to the live stages: my favorite part of the choreo is when they say "take a photo" it cuts to that member at a different camera angle like an actual photo is being taken
I am not sure if anybody commented already about the storyline but Soyeon mentioned a movie called “I feel pretty” as one of her inspiration so I guess the storyline of Queencard similar to this. The character Soyeon played was under the influence of anaesthetic and she felt confident as somehow she was in Minnie/Miyeon/Yuqi’s shoes (all of those ladies seemed to be her object of envy) but what happened was she is still her, but she just gained more confidence.
The ending really gives you the thought of "its all in her head" and at the same time "wait, did that really happen?". To put it more clearly, was it all a dream or was it?
I think that this is the correct interpretation of the ending. The entire "Queencard" video is filled with Y2K tropes and references. Dance battle at the club, emerging from the water looking perfectly beautiful, causing traffic chaos by simply walking down the street, people dancing in professional situations, "It was all just a dream" ending, artifact from the dream to make us wonder "Was it a dream, or wasn't it?". 1off dream episodes from TV series often used that ending.
I looove this concept for gidle, they delivered an amazing concept that got yo the ppl. For me allergy touched me so deep, the 00's concept and the lyrics reflected my teenage self and how i felt, and even how i feel now sometimes and i couldnt help but cry with the lyrics and the video bc its true, beauty standarts and how ppl see you always affect you. And queen card was the perfect sequel, full of confidence and with an awesome messages, and that last line of "i feel YOU" made me cry again, because gidle are giving the new generation good feed back and a great example. For me these two are some of their best mvs and the songs are incredible too :))
For all the I-am-still-confused people there: In Allergy, Soyeon wants to be like Minnie but the hot girl trainee Minnie also has sadness in her mind because she is lonely in real life despite being so famous on social media! Miyeon is an influencer & Minnie is now in a relationship with Tom.Boy who is an ex of Miyeon. Hence, she's jealous of Minnie too. Yuqi & Shuhua play the same role & they are Miyeon's friends. The MV ends with Soyeon finally deciding she wants the plastic surgery to look like Minnie cuz she feels allergic while looking at the mirror. The theme of allergy MV is how we perceive ourselves compared to others & how social media shapes our minds & opinions about beauty standards & popularity but deep down that popular person may not be happy in real life like Minnie! Now, in the Queencard MV, despite Soyeon going to the operation theatre for plastic surgery, she decided against it just before the surgery starts cuz in her mind, she understands she's a queenca in her own way! She leaves the hospital & goes to the dance club last night. She has fun with all the members there. Those Minnie/Miyeon/Yuqi turning into Soyeon in the MV has a deeper meaning. Soyeon imagined those situations as hers when she was in the surgery room. Hence, she could conclude by then that she's just fine being herself & chasing others' look won't make her happy as she thought previously. Anyway, after she passed the night with the members & posted the pics on her insta, you can see all the girls are following & leaving comments to her. It proves that the party last night did actually happen & it wasn't just a dream. Just like "I Feel Pretty" movie which was an inspiration for Soyeon for writing & conceptualizing QC, Soyeon in the MV suddenly realized no matter how she looks, she's still a QC by her own merit & she doesn't need to look like someone else's face/body to be a QC.
I always love watching your videos because it feels like you catch all the nuances and references and messages that I feel are significant to the message and overall concept that others just don’t notice and it makes me happy but also it’s cathartic to watch and catch all those details!! Thank you!!!!
The ending is that she accepted herself as she is and got the confidence in being herself hence the whole world started seeing her differently and thinking she is cool too
U can hate it or love it, is not even their best cb song, is not in their "artistic spectrum," but Soyeon knows how to sound like a pro and top bangers, im just saying, as a Soyeon fan.🤑
i imagine that soyeon decided to go all out the night before the surgery. not recommended to have alcohol and stuff before surgery, but narrative wise, it works. she did a last hurrah before the surgery to change her face and subsequently, her life. bc she did everything for her own sake and she didn’t care what others thought for that one night, people paid attention. when she prematurely wakes up in the surgery room, she realizes that she didn’t need the surgery. she was capable of having fun and being confident, free to be herself, without the surgery. she just needed to experience it once without thinking about anything else, about what could go wrong or what others would say. then when she gets out and sees people happily greeting her and all the nice comments, she was settled. the feeling of being free. this positive feedback confirmed that she didn’t need surgery or change her life to enjoy it like others she saw were.
* i’d like to emphasize that she didn’t need the nice comments specifically to feel settled or free. but rather the positive reinforcement. she was feeling good and then she saw others happy. positive reinforcement. positive feedback.
You got it perfectly. It was Soyeon's dream to be like them in Allergy's MV, so she became like them in Queencard by getting confidence even though it was all a dream in the end. Soyeon got inspired by the movie I Feel Pretty which has the same concept. I'm very happy that you liked it, cause I can see the effort in this comeback.
Thank you for the reaction and analysis Her dream is likely a mix of memories and delusions, in the end she didn't get the surgery, this explains the picture in the sns at the end They all slay so amazingly
Soyeon just makes hit after hit. So fun and addictive. The concept, instrumental, mv amazing. I didn't like the bsides a lot but title track makes up for them.
My interpretation is like: the girls turn into her because she feels like the inage she created of them (she thinks those girls are confident and pretty, cool etc, she feels their confidence and feel herself as a queencard, that's why they turn into her
you were kind of right about the queencard / 퀸카 reference because they use the 퀸카 in the official lyrics rather than "queencard", but according to google 퀸카 is the female version of 킹카 which you talked about
When it first came out haters made fun of this song for being « stupid » as they said but the majority of them haven’t listen till the end and definitely didn’t get the meaning and didn’t listen to Allergy.. it made me so mad because I litteraly cried when they dropped Allergy because I saw my teenager self in the lyrics…
They pulled Mean Girls and White Chicks references for a reason, Soyeon wanted to make a statement but wanted to make it fun for once and just have a giggle whilst saying something serious. So I suppose it's also kind of feminist in the way you hear some misogynists say women aren't funny.
퀸카 is used for popular girls! and it comes from the queen card on card decks, so queencard is just 퀸카 in english. Mean Girls for example is called 퀸카로 살아남는
queenka and kingka is the korean pronunciation of queencard and kingcard, the most popular girl and boy at school.. it came from the deck of cards, like saying oh she has the queen card so she is the queen... at least that is what i've learned. feel free to correct me if i made a mistake or if i missed something
I think that weird percussive thing you’re referring to is a cowbell :) you wouldn’t think it is, but it was used a lot in American nineties pop and rnb if I’m correct in what instrument it is!
I interpreted both the mvs in the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde way, Soyeon's character was insecure, her in the plaid brown dress in Allergy is the not so special Jekyll self, but sometimes she gets too fed up and stops caring, and lets loose like the other girls, her Mr Hyde side, which we see at the party in QC. After she realised in Allergy that even cosmetic surgery is expensive she has another one of these "breaking points" where she sees the post from Miyeon about the party and says fuck it I'm going, that's when QC starts. Then the next day under anesthetics she sees Miyeon again in the doctor and realises that the "fix" she's looking for, to be like the other girls, is not real since they're also yearning for something else. She wakes up in time and the metaphorical paper plane that her Dr Jekyll self sends in Allergy eventually reaches her, telling her to love herself.

PD + G-Idle = the world is back to normal.... love them or hate them... G idle always warrants great discussion, that is the true purpose of art.
I love how there are so many pop culture references, both in the mv and in the song, it makes this so much more fun and exciting
If you had seen the precursor videos introducing the characters (and previewing the songs from the album), it makes even more sense than just watching them in the right order.
Allergy is me in the morning and Queen card is after I had coffee 😂
i think the ending and soyeon's picture represents that she always had it in her to be the queencard. hence why she's constantly shifting in and out of reality replacing the girls - she wants to be more like them, but in reality (and as we see from the allergy music video) they also struggle just like her and they aren't that different from each other. i also love how at the end everyone praises soyeon and wants to hang out with her, because at first we're lead to believe that the other girls dislike her for being nerdy, but it turns out to be all a product of her own insecurities.
also, you were pretty much spot on with the queencard/kingcard analogy, but i think (since the mv had white chick references and soyeon also talked about "i feel pretty" as inspiration for the art direction of the comeback, that the title might be inspired by the movie mean girls (another y2k classic), since its korean title is "퀸카로 살아남는 법"
Song of the year. MV of the year. Concept of the year. 10 OUT OF 10 EVERYTHING!
The fact that they spoil Queencard in the first few seconds of this video is freaking great.
What's amazing is Queencard surpassed Tomboy's achievements and mind you tomboy was a BIG HIT, I'm so glad they keep moving forward after tomboy
For all the I-am-still-confused people there:
In Allergy, Soyeon wants to be like Minnie but the hot girl trainee Minnie also has sadness in her mind because she is lonely in real life despite being so famous on social media!
Gidle always make legend songs just loveeeeee them
I always love watching your videos because it feels like you catch all the nuances and references and messages that I feel are significant to the message and overall concept that others just don’t notice and it makes me happy but also it’s cathartic to watch and catch all those details!!
I like to think that in the end.... They want to tell that dreams can come true
I love it when PD bobs his head.. usually means he really digs the song!
I was waiting for this sooo much I checked everyday😭 their best comeback so far I’m so obsessed
Queencard reached new peak of Top Songs Global number 11 in their sixth week of release!!!! Congratulations!!!
Allergy is my favorite (G)I-dle song
i imagine that soyeon decided to go all out the night before the surgery. not recommended to have alcohol and stuff before surgery, but narrative wise, it works. she did a last hurrah before the surgery to change her face and subsequently, her life. bc she did everything for her own sake and she didn’t care what others thought for that one night, people paid attention. when she prematurely wakes up in the surgery room, she realizes that she didn’t need the surgery. she was capable of having fun and being confident, free to be herself, without the surgery. she just needed to experience it once without thinking about anything else, about what could go wrong or what others would say. then when she gets out and sees people happily greeting her and all the nice comments, she was settled. the feeling of being free. this positive feedback confirmed that she didn’t need surgery or change her life to enjoy it like others she saw were.
Thank you for the reaction and analysis
Her dream is likely a mix of memories and delusions, in the end she didn't get the surgery, this explains the picture in the sns at the end
They all slay so amazingly
I went to their concert in Seoul and it was amazing 💜
Soyeon just makes hit after hit. So fun and addictive. The concept, instrumental, mv amazing. I didn't like the bsides a lot but title track makes up for them.
My interpretation is like: the girls turn into her because she feels like the inage she created of them (she thinks those girls are confident and pretty, cool etc, she feels their confidence and feel herself as a queencard, that's why they turn into her
PD this jacket is fire!!! And you look so so good!!!
u forget to play queencard last message on the video, that tiny detail, i love it! just rembering, we are human
Omg I have been waiting for this!! Checking for at least a month since their release. Love Gidle! Obsessed.
Your happy face in the thumbnail is glorious!
Nearly 500 raks and still topping the charts
Their songs just get better and better every time. There's never a moment where the comeback feels bleh
you were kind of right about the queencard / 퀸카 reference because they use the 퀸카 in the official lyrics rather than "queencard", but according to google 퀸카 is the female version of 킹카 which you talked about
Make sure to check the encores when they win in music shows, those are absolutely legendary!
there are so many moments where i feel like crying while watching these videos, and the last “i feel you” was like IT
When it first came out haters made fun of this song for being « stupid » as they said but the majority of them haven’t listen till the end and definitely didn’t get the meaning and didn’t listen to Allergy.. it made me so mad because I litteraly cried when they dropped Allergy because I saw my teenager self in the lyrics…
Shuhua slayed. PERIOD.
omg pd istg i’ve waited SO LONG FOR THIS. thank you ❤❤
I hope you also react to their first english single, I Do, that's coming out in a few hours.
I sincerely recommend Yuqi’s first solo album YUQI1,the variety on this album is impressive!Hope u will like it!
I fkn love this entire album
after months of waiting, an i-dle reaction video 💛 thank you pd
ooo i’ve been waiting for this one, turn it up!
They pulled Mean Girls and White Chicks references for a reason, Soyeon wanted to make a statement but wanted to make it fun for once and just have a giggle whilst saying something serious.
So I suppose it's also kind of feminist in the way you hear some misogynists say women aren't funny.
i love these girls so much, they did that
I've been waiting for this. Finally!!!!!
i was waiting for soooo long this review. The girls do it amazing .
forever waiting for the h1-key rose blossom reaction 😭
Gidle is the best kpop group for me for real 👑💜
This comeback is lit
TY so much for this reaction! Soyeon is an absolute Genius! Perfect comeback for these Queens❤
i really love ur reactions
我終於等到評論這兩個MV啦~
For me the ending is the typical teenager movies of y2k of "It was all just a dream~...... or was it?"
Also, PD amazing songs and heartbreaking lyrics are Soyeon thing :D :D Psycho, Dark (X-file) etc..
Dark was written by yuqi tho . However yea she really does
@@rojinssh Dark was composed by Yuqi but written by Soyeon
Great smile on PD's face :)
I hope the song can be a little bit longer but "I'm Queencard" chorus is really satisfied.
This comeback is great. They all did amazing.
Soyeon Is a genius
Yessss finally! I was waiting for this reaction
Thank you for the reaction PD!
Do you see 'I Do', the 1st English song of them and will drop more 5 tacks for 'Heat' mi i album (English version).
That's why they have 12 wins, and counting.
They make me cry. The good way.
Thanks for the reaction PD! I've been looking very much forward to it! Hope you'll enjoy the album just as much in July!
