Malaysia doesn't like bike taxis or tuktuks because it causes more chaos, not too organized, it's already a more convenient and sophisticated mode of public transportation provided like Komuter, LRT, MRT, MONORAIL etc,
Now that it is monsoon season you will find it's raining more than previous months, normal average 26°c to 30°c.. yes Dubai is more super heat @40°c and dusty sand wind also.. Lucky in KL it's not over crowded and not over polluted, while BKK, Chiang Mai and JKT as reported they're the most polluted cities in the world in 2023 and recently..
Yes, Singapore is a developed country and it's a clean city and its size is smaller than KL itself, therefore SG is easy to manage and maintain.
Malaysia is a developing country, and KL is redeveloping its old and new structures, skyscrapers and landscape.. one day it will be much better than what it is now..

A key factor to consider is where you are in life, that in turn will play into what you're looking for in a place to stay long term. I was in KL for the first time earlier this year, really enjoyed my stay and I'm looking forward to visiting again. As someone who is just a few years from retirement, KL checks a lot of boxes for me. More laid back, not really a party culture. Great amenities and conveniences, good health care options, in addition to affordable living for those on a modest pension. If I were 20+ years younger, places like Bali, Bangkok, Manila, etc. would be on my radar. At this point in my life, I prefer my routine and value a more family focused and conservative place. That's what KL delivers.

Underrated maybe to Western tourists. It's a major tourist destination for tourists from Japan, Korea, China and the Middle East for a very very long time. The target market for Malaysian tourism is high net worth tourists, not the value tourists. In recent years Kuala Lumpur has beaten Dubai in terms of tourist arrivals but still below Thailand. Singapore and Bali both receive less tourists than Malaysia. ✌️

Definitely you missed something on the food. Foodpanda is another delivery service. There are great restaurants. Some are hidden away (some with no food deliveries). The food from good restaurants will blow your taste buds away. Most of them are spicy though.
Malay - Ikan Bakar, Nasi Lemak (from Wanjo and Village Park), Nasi Kerabu (from Kak Som), Nasi Dagang (Kak Som), Tempoyak (Kak Nik Patin House), Itik Salai Masak Lemak (Smoked Duck Curry - from Itik Salai Masthar)
Mixed - Peranakan (Nyonya) from Peranakan Place. There are others but can't remember the shop name. Curry Laksa and Asam Laksa made by all races. All states and races has some variation. Fried rice also has variations from all races.
Indian - Nasi Kandar, Roti Canai (and some variations), Mee Goreng, Murtabak
Chinese - Prawn mee, Hokkien mee, Cantonese ying yong (vermicelli and flat rice noodles), Loh mee (fat noodles cooked in Cantonese style). Steamed bun varieties and glutinous chicken rice. Soup varieties like ABC (Carrot, Tomato, Potatoes, Onions and meat), Lotus Root, Old Cucumber, Watercress. Chicken (and some variety of meat) rice.
Getting too long, I'll stop here. I'll continue with the locations if you need it.

Since you like Bali you can check out smaller cities like Melaka or cities in the state of Perak like Ipoh or Taiping. Taiping is cooler when it rains and it rains very often because it's the wettest town in Malaysia and it's also the most historical firsts town in Malaysia.

Thanks for the honest review, Tm. As you know, Malaysia is much more than Kuala Lumpur. If you want beaches the nearest place to go is Port Dickson which is about an hour 30 minutes from KL. It's pretty decent beach, not as great as Bali or Phuket but decent enough. Try to explore other places other than KL, you may find little gems here and there. Best beaches and ocean are located in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Numerous islands you can explore and enjoy with white sand and turquoise color water. I recommend you go snorkeling at these places such as Redang Island, Perhentian Island, Rawa Island, Tioman Island and many more. The ones in west coast are not that great except maybe Langkawi Island.
But Malaysia offers excellent natural places for exploring and hiking especially its rainforest, streams and waterfalls. If you are feeling adventurous, plenty of rainforest even nearby KL that are interesting and gorgeous to see. Why don't you try places like FRIM Kepong, just 30-40 minutes outside city center. Or try showering at waterfalls at places like Kanching rainforest waterfall, Ulu Yam waterfall, Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest, Gabai Waterfalls, Tekala River Recreation Forest and many more. What I like about these places because these places are located not more than an hour outside KL.
Plus, white water rafting is also gaining popularity among Malaysians. If you are feeling extra adventurous, you can try white water rafting at Kuala Kubu Bharu, Selangor. Gopeng River near the town of Ipoh also is a great one to try but it is two- and half-hour journey from KL. Bro, I can list many things you can do in Malaysia, but I think you can google yourself. Have nice time in Malaysia
    👍
