What I like about Bombay is exactly this that is delicate, light, fresh, like a fresh enchanted forest and the bottle really matches it. So far I’ve never seen better gin bottle ever.
Ive tried Tanqueray and Bombay by myself and with others as a test. Bombay unanimously came back as the winner because of its taste that we thought was more distinct than Tanqueray. Ive seen Beefeater and heard its rather a good option to try so I may give that a go next time. Thanks for the analysis!
Great to see you back Tim, more please, Love your sensible reviews. agree the fun of gin is we all like different things - I love the traditional beefeater style and Bombay and Hendricks don’t work for me, but my friends see it differently. It would be pretty boring if we all felt the same!
Thanks for the kind words Lindon! Sorry I’m not posting as much lately. Currently in the process of moving interstate and visiting relatives overseas. Hopefully I can resume regular scheduling soon!
Thanks for a very informative video. I'm new to gin so picked this one up for a change as I usually drink Bourbon/Scotch. Quite enjoying the different flavours gin has to offer and looking forward to trying more in the future. Keep up the good work. Liked and subscribed cheers.
It was the only gin I drank, until I tried other brands and Bombay sits in the back of the shelf… it’s not bad … but there are more varieties available that are better for same price
I still prefer Bombay. There are many to choose from and maybe it's just the aesthetic, but I prefer the Sapphire. The East was my favorite flavor and around where I live, has been harder to find.
Bombay Sapphire is most popular with people who don't know gin but think it's somehow better than Tanquaray or Beefeater, which it's not BUT it's all subjective.
I love Bombay Sapphire but here in the states, the higher alcohol definitely makes it taste different. I bought some Beefeater to compare last week and I like it but it’s lower alcohol really affects it’s taste.
Your channel is KEY to my new-found love-- Gin. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share thoughts on Procera Gin, it's Kenyan and I'm in love (patriotic bias maybe?) Greetings from Nairobi :)
Bombay Sapphire is among the worst of the major gin brands. It's thin even in the US with higher ABV. There is an artificial note to the flavors. The regular Bombay gin at least gets rid of that fake chemical taste but it still has that watery consistency. I don't know what grain they use as a base spirit but it creates something that is so soft that it completely lacks any body. You were very honest Tim and it's a good review but I'd be a lot more critical. Bombay Sapphire is on a tier with Gordons, Seagrams and G&J
Yeah that artificial note you describe is what I was trying to explain. It’s kind of like the “coriander effect” - there is something in there that a small percentage of the population just cannot stand on a visceral level. I don’t get it as artificial as much as earthy and bitter. Although I did once have a Bombay Sapphire G&T can (big mistake) and that was artificial in HD, but I put that down to poor quality tonic in the mix but who knows. And you’re bang on about the Bombay Dry, better than the Sapphire but still better options for the $$$ out there! Cheers 🍸
@@TimandTonic It's a very weak gin and I don't like the after taste. I tried it several times and I have used Bombay gin in several cocktails, to give it a fair chance, and I have, believe me, and I agree that there is a "coriander effect" that takes over the gin and it's all I can taste in an after taste. I prefer to taste juniper and to me there is none here. There's just nothing here in this gin. I really wanted to find something appealing but I can't with Bombay. I love martinis and Bombay just doesn't cut it. You have given Bombay a terrific chance Tim! I agree with your conclusions - 100% Even in the classic G&T it just lacks way too much for me to consider ever buying this gin. I gave it a good go and that's all we can do!! Cheers!! 🙂
"and a little slice of lemon" " I didn't murder someone's cat or something" Welcome back brother!! Coincidentally, I wonder how Bombay Sapphire stacks against Aviation? Since they sound like they would fit in the same "Category" of lighter gins. On the other hand I wouldn't want you to have to give it 5th place behind something else lol
bombay sapphire is perfect to mix with arizona rx. the taste profiles of both compliment each other very well and the arizona adds that citrus note thats missing from the bombay and helps make the bitterness more palatable.
Hey Nico, funnily enough I am currently in Berlin too, but I’ll be leaving on Saturday! So greetings ;) The books on my shelf are; * The Curious Bartenders Guide to Gin - Tristan Stephenson * The Drunken Botanist - Amy Stewart * Sip: 100 Gin Cocktails with 3 Ingredients - Sipsmith * Gin: The Manual - Dave Broom * Tequila Ambassador - Thomas Estes * Modern Cocktails - Matt Whiley
Well I can see why you dislike it, but those are the reasons I like it. I am no fan of liquorice root so many gins taste to much of it. This has a good balance for me, but I can see how someone who like that flavour will find it missing
Everyone has a slightly different sense of taste, but this is what I was trying to explain in the video, it’s kind of like the “coriander effect” - there is something in there that a small percentage of the population just cannot stand on a visceral level. I don’t get it as artificial as much as earthy and bitter.

I really like the roku gin bottle
It's 47% v/v even in India. Still tastes really great. My go to gin.

Ya'll gotta try bombay sapphire with lemonade sprite or lemonade with ice....killers...my fav gin always
I've always thought of Bombay Sapphire as a gin for people who would rather be drinking vodka.

100% agree with you there! 😁
Picked up tanqueray gin 1.75 liters yesterday for $21.99 in USA, it was $6.00 cheaper then Bombay… LoL
@@SV-ki7si Tanqueray is always reliable! Wish we could get gin that cheap in Australia, it’s an expensive habit down here haha
M in Adelaide right now ... Which one is the best of all time.? Can you suggest me.? I tried Jim beam bourbon yesterday.🚀
I still prefer Bombay. There are many to choose from and maybe it's just the aesthetic, but I prefer the Sapphire. The East was my favorite flavor and around where I live, has been harder to find.
Its 47% plus the erbs is n it make a splendid taste i love bombay i wish they keep up the good work with enhancement different erbs to make nice gin
US has a 750 ml bottle=$25, we purchase the 1.5 liter for $37 US. Thx for the review, we do like our BSapphire!

I found this video by learning about Bombay Sapphire used in mixing drinks at bars.

I remember the first time I tried it, it reminds me the taste of celery. Then I had not pour it…

This stuff is now $55, 11 months later and an 22% increase.
I like a minimum amount of tonic water, mineral water works well too. Let Bombay shine though, not be overpowered.
You have summed it up well, there are better gins out there and cheaper.
Need some reccs.

So much hate on this drink it's a pleasant taste that's easy to drink yo are the haters that just review something to stir feathers
My drink of choice... straight.... yep .
47% Alcohol content in India as well.
That one srilankan gin made from my palace
It’s very good
Another gin-dude on RUclips says it has taste/smell like chemicals.

“This bottle of alcohol smells like chemicals!”
Did he mention it’s wet too?! 🤣
Bombay saphir
It taste horribly
It’s not smooth that’s why you had to make a cut after every sip 😂😂. God dry martinis are so awful I hate people who pretend to like them.
Unbalanced for what flavor there is.
Bum pirate
i was going to rob this off the Mrs butt changed my mind
Bombay taste like battery acid to beginner drinks don’t drink this shit
