Beautifully done. It's not just about how he explains LOD, but how he explains all the workarounds and why they arent ideal...

Great way to illustrate the power of the LOD (include) feature after showing the problem in TD prior to version 9. Very helpful. Thanks.

Great video on level of detail calculation in the Tableau Software version 9 beta. Will make sharing complex table calculations through server and public far simpler and easier to understand.

Great next step of improvisation in Tableau v9. Level of Details is the data dish for the need of the hour which is a deep data insight Tableau Software love you Tableau !!

I'm confused what this is doing for us in this example. Can't you just use avg( sales ) on the column and state on the row? If you want to compare to the total average for all add in total (avg (sales))?

Can't we simply use SUM(Sales)/COUNTD(Order Id) to calculate the average order value and drag states or whatever necessary dimensions to it?

I don't mean to judge, I'm very new to Tableau but is this seriously the best way to achieve this? I can do the same far easier and less hacky in Splunk... just seems like something so basic that it should be built in IMO...

Can you use LOD calculations on top of calculated fields in tableau? For example, I have a few calculated fields for VOL based on some criteria for example if >=25 then 0 else vol? I need to subtotal the calculations based on the daily results.
