In today's episode we are fixing the TCU (transmission control module) that is causing the P0706 fault code. Also causing the CVT transmission to randomly 'forget' what gear it's in and goes into neutral while driving. This is a VERY common issue with these Audi A4s and A6's.
We remove the transmission control module and send it to Module Masters in Idaho to be rebuilt. This costs about $200 + shipping and did end up fixing the issue we were having.
I have listed all parts, tools and resources below that were used in this video.

This one I got for $800, I put in about $1200 in repairs and I sold it for $5800 3 weeks later
Hi! Having PRNDS all steady lit up in my Audi A4... cheap scanner rekons it's a fault in the speed sensor (integrated to the TCM) still goes through all gears but no cruise control... anyway, I just bought a refurb TCM from china and a cloning tool... $1500 AUD including freight, expensive but nothing compared to what companies charge here just to refurb yours (quoted FROM $2.755 AUD that's crazy!!!) Will arrive home in 9 days or so. My plan is to follow your video step by step, got the tools already. Will remove old TCM and have it ready to clone it's data to the "new" one and will put everything back (reusing gasket and probably using a digital torque wrench to avoid striping those bolts😅)
Hope to get it done properly.... Wish me luck 🤞 I am not a mechanic, work as a labourer in construction meaning no knowledge but happy to try and learn through the process (oh and I'm broke too hahahaha)
Thanks for sharing mate!
Thank you for your help with euro! Learned a couple things in regards to my 04 V8 Touareg. I am now looking for a second car and thats a 2006 A4 2.0T Auto and a 2008 A4 Avant 2.0T Auto. I see theres 2 types of auto transmissions. The CVT-Multitronic 7 speed and the 6 speed tip-tronic. Now the 2006 one I am looking at has a module issue (Diagnosed by mechanic) now the mechanic stated the TCM needs replacing and it's located in the trans. Now is this a CVT trans or a Tip-tronic. Thank you (if you have any more knowledge of the A4 (2005-2008) please do tell me! thank you again
This one is a CVT transmission and they have so many issues. Personally, I prefer the Triptronic in the Audi's. Every CVT I have seen has this same issue. Also the Avant is so nice to have, I have an A6 Avant and love the extra space. It has the triptronic, zero issues at 135k miles.
Thanks for watching🤙🏼
@@Mechani_Cole I will look at the Avant! Cheers!
How to tell if it’s tiptronic or cvt?
11:46 the module is a easy fix if you know how to solder aluminum wires, the electronics of this unit is the most cheap and disposable one of the many electronics units of the whole vehicle, inside you can find a Hybrid electronic circuit covered with a soft high temperature resistant resin, this hybrid circuit once that fails, it can not be fixed. The main problem: internally there are an array of mechanical bonded aluminum wires making the connection between all the hall-sensor embedded in the external plastic columns and the internal hybrid circuit covered with soft resin. Those internal aluminum wires are exposed to the changing temperatures and vibrations and this can cause in the future a permanent damage to the hall-sensor and to the hybrid electronic circuit causing overheat to the internal circuits storing a permanent error. If you open the unit carefully with a drimmel and the resin looks oily, it is game over, the excess of heat cooks the resin and you will find some wire unbound, but if the resin still transparently clear and some wires are just unbound, the only fix is to solder those wires back, if you have the skill to do it. Congratulations you will save yourself a lot of money and get a lot of money 🤣, if not, contact me and I can give you a good price for this repairs 👌, oh and about the instrument cluster... that's also easy to fix😁, oh and the triptonic same problems😉
Its really not that much money to have it fixed. Only about $200 and saves you a ton of guess work. Most people wouldn't be able to fix this themselves. Best to have a proffessional do it and save the hassle😬
@@Mechani_Colethat is true, for those who really would like to learn

Cole your videos are fantastic, and this one in particular is excellent. I'm having a bit of trouble though - I've got this car and I can't figure out how to add transmission temp to torque pro...
Have googled high and low and can't seem to find out how, any ideas?
Thank you
Hi, thanks for the comment!
On the Torque Pro app, click Real Time information, find the settings on the bottom left, and click "add display." It should give you several different graphs, bars, or numbers you can use for measurement on different sensors. Hopefully that helps🫡
@Mechani_Cole thank you! I'll give this a go, keep up the amazing work 👌🏼👌🏼
Thanks Rodney!
Hello thank you so much for the video, but is it the same problem as 17090 ? My PRNDS lights up and it struggles to find the right shift. If somebody know let me know !
Good stuff, I was hoping you would open up that filter and inspect it on condition and pisible metal particles.
I wasn't to worried since I new the TCU had a fault in it and there was no metal in the bottom of the pan
What diagnosis machine are you using and what type of monitor to the phone as well... I have a audi a4 2.4 V6.. My box runs fine until it heats.. When you take your foot of the brake it doesn't move and giving it a little bit of power it buckles forward and then drives even slowing done the car bucks forward
Using an Ancel scanner, which for the price is the best scanner I have ever found for Audi. Here is a link amzn.to/3krAC7l.
For the phone scanner, I am using Torque Pro, which is only about $6 for the app then need the bluetooth scanner piece. Pretty helpful.
If I remember correctly, your Audi has an external TCU which is known to fail or cause issues as well.
Fluid is on its way, I found the febi one. I also sent my TCM to Module Master to get it fixed. Hopefully everything works in a few days when I put all together. Thank you for your help.
Sending good vibes your way, hope you are able to get it fixed🤞🏻

Hi. Just wanted to let you know I called Module Master in Idaho today and they no longer service TCM's. Is there an alternate? Thanks.
is it safe to lower the transmission, doesn't it damage something?
excellent video! thank you very very much
Yeah its totally fine to lower it, its still connected to the engine, but you need to have a jack underneath to support the transmission when you remove the brace and mount. That way it doesn't sag down to much or ruin the motor mounts.

Hi mate i got a cvt multitronic gearbox from Audi a4 b6 1.8t 2002 if my gearbox got cod geb and if take a difrent cod gearbox and just swap The tcu i gone work?
This is a different gearbox. I believe yours has a manual gear selector instead of a TCU inside the trans
Installing the mount back was a pain in the ass and way more tricky than in your video bro :(
Went in pretty easy for me🫡
@@Mechani_Cole finally i did it. Had to install the small one to the big mount first after lowering the tranny as low as possible then lift everything up as high as possible.
Great job. I have a 2004 audi a4 1.8 and everytime i stop the rpm goes from 800 to 600 and if i put it in reverse the cars dies sometimes, do you know what causes that, thank you
Could be a number of things, is there any check engine light on? On codes? Hard to tell without that
Great video. was the tcu issue caused by the coolant valve ?
Not sure the cause. I just sent it off to had it rebuilt and put it back in
im asking because i have the same error code, the tcm plug is a bit wet, after cleaning it its fine. but gets wet again after a couple drives. i cant find the transmission coolant valve anywhere. looks like its goes from the radiator to the long silver filter then into the transmission.
@@Mechani_Cole
This was hands down the best video on RUclips for the transmission control module issue. I just did this same job tonight thanks to your help. I sent my module to ebay user: modulerepair. He fixed my module in one day. I use the same pump from harbor freight, but stuffed a paper towel around the hose to fill the gap when pumping the fluid in the transmission. It worked perfectly to stop the fluid from dripping out. There was no mess. Thanks a lot!
I love comments like these! Thanks for sharing that, hopefully this fixes your issue! Thanks for watching and commenting that!
@@Mechani_Cole oh yes it fixed the issue. So glad I finally got rid of the flashing PRNDS lights!
Hi Kevin. Were you getting a code? I'm getting a P0706 and my PRDNS flashes. Thanks.
@@rickspohn6879 yep that's the same code I had
I ended up sending the tcm like you because it was never opened which was a surprise being 18 years old lol plus i get a warranty. I expected it to be opened tbf 😂
Thank you for making this and all your videos with great dedication, and I wanted to ask you something else. I have an Audi B7 2.0T, and VCDS shows me the G196 issue in the transmission. I don't have any problems while driving, but the letters PRNDS sometimes stay in red and sometimes normal. My question is, does it relate to the TCU (Transmission Control Unit)? When I put it in D or R, it vibrates a little, but when I accelerate, the vibration stops. Is it due to the transmission? And the last question, at how many RPM should it be when it's in D or R? Thank you for your time, and thank you very much for your videos! Greetings from Chile.
When is the last time the trans fluid was changed? Is the fluid at the proper level? That's the first 2 things I would check.
For the code, The ECU is telling you that there is a problem with the Transmission Output Speed Sensor 2 (G196). It's not seeing it electrically...hence the "No Signal" code. According to the Bentley Manual the G196 sensor is inside the TCM; so, if it's bad you will need to replace the TCM or find someone that can repair it for you. The sensor could be bad or you could have a wiring problem. I wouldn't order any parts until you have verified that there isn't a wiring issue.
@@Mechani_Cole Thanks for the swift reply! I recently purchased the car, and regrettably, the previous owner had very limited information about it. One final question: Is it possible to resolve the issue with a fluid change?
@antoniomoya5222 at this point, unless the fluid is very low, I would assume it's a problem with the TCU. Can find people on Ebay that rebuild them for you. It's about $200-300.
Hi, one more question. In the video you check the fluid level when it hits around 74 degrees celsius but in some forums people say to check the fluid between 30 to 45 degrees or i can risk overfilling or underfilling. Which is the right option?
The way I did it worked for me with no issues. Measure what you take out, out that amount back in
Hey I got a question I put my Audi s4 2005 in gears where I could shift the car my self and it doesn’t read it basically stays on drive been looking for a video or a answer but can’t find no videos .
Could be the linkage as well. Check that first. Then the shift selector. Module inside is always last
Great video. How many hours for that job?
Thank you! I would say about 2-3 hours max to remove it and another 2-3 hours to put it back in. It was all pretty easy for the most part. The longest wait was the Module being rebuilt. It took about 8 days to get it back.
My 2007 Audi has a PRNDS light flashing but now it won’t start , the vehicle has been doing this for about 6 months but won’t start now is this the problem , Thanks for the help.
Hi I have a question I have a 08 audi A4 I want to change my transmission for a used one do I need any special programing after the installation?
It would be VERY beneficial to have a VCDS system, which isn't too expensive. But most importantly, you will need to match your transmission code to an exact used one. These cars have different versions of the same transmission that are associated with a code. Usually located in the trunk near the spare tire on a tag.
@@Mechani_Cole ok , I have a shift solenoid 1 code and a high voltage code .should I replace the transmission or just the solenoid? And the transmission has 3 solenoid should I replace all 3?
I have a 2002 A4 B6 2.0 if i replace the tcm with one from an identical model will it need to be reprogrammed?
No, and I'm pretty sure yours is a mechanical TCU, not electronic like this one
@itsmechanicole where did you get the drain plug socket?
Not sure what you mean, which drain plug?
I have the same problem in my audi a4 b7 2006 Quattro with winning noise and doesn't engage at all any recommendations please
Any idea as to what's going on with 2008 audi q7 3.6 Quattro the PRNDS all lit up red but if I put it to the + symbol in drive the red backlight disappears.
Any ideas? I am stressed right out here
Did you have to reprogram the ecu for the new tcm or did clearing it simlpy male everything work?
Was plug and play for me. Always reset the codes on the scanner of course
@Mechani_Cole . Was your unit brand new from Audi? Not a second-hand unit from an audi?
@misike3882 I removed the module from the trans and shipped it out to have it rebuilt. It's the original one. Not new or second hand. Just rebuilt. Can find this service on Ebay
@@Mechani_Cole Thanks for getting back to me 👍

But once I switch it off and start it again it flashes PRNDS and then slips gears after some distance. Recently my reverse gear is not as powerful as before. Any recommendation?
You could always try flushing the fluid first, but more of time it's the TCU that is faulty and needs to be rebuilt. Then added back in with fresh correct fluids and new filter

Hi I have a 2007 Audi A4 cvt can it be the range sensor that needs to be change or absolutely the transmission control module?
Good question, I can't say 100% as I don't know much about your car or issue. This is just how I solved the issue I was having
@@Mechani_Cole cool how any hours does it take to pull out the tcm?
Depends on each person's skill set. Took me about 1 hour to remove it. Probably even less time to put it back in. But if you don't have power tools and using hand tools, I'd add double the time.
Filing the fluid and getting the correct fluid was the biggest pain, and a little expensive for fluid. Maybe $150-200 for the correct stuff. On top of that, you'll spill some too, it's a mess haha
Hi I have a 08 audi a4 and my PRNDS are on . I clar the error and it go back to normal but when I start the car it goes back again do you think is the tcm that you rebuild?
Yes, there is nothing else that causes that, clearing the codes doesn't do anything. Needs to be rebuilt, super common on these cars
@@Mechani_Cole another question when they rebuild it, doing need to program?
@@romannevarez4236 no, just put it back in with correct fluid
@@Mechani_Cole thank you for all the info I will start doing it next week
This happened to my Audi a4, do I have to start and let’s what left of the transmission fluid circulate while I pump it in?
Once you initially fill it, yes. Then the car needs to be running while adding fluid
I hope you used a new metal gasket as they are a one time use item and the cover bolts are stretch bolts so you need to replace all 12 of them. The torque specs for the TCM x3 screws are 10nm and the cover bolts x12 are 15nm.
New metal gasket and the plug grommet was replaced. Re-used the old bolts though with no issues. Just didn't have time to grab new ones.

I’m having issues with my 2007 Audi A4 CVT - it is juddering when driving difficult to move off. What do you think the issue is? Is it worth changing ATF or is it more bigger than that. No codes showing and no engine light.
Good question, I always start with the fluid first. If it makes a difference then that could be the issue. If not, it could be something more like a sensor or module. Just make sure you use the correct fluid and procedure.
@@Mechani_Cole a garage that I use have advised they do not think the ATF will make a difference. In order to check the issue and recondition any part will take me in the region of 1200 gbp more than 60% of cars value.
However ATF is the cheap option around 200 gbp but don’t want to throw money away.
Yeah, its always a difficult position to be in. I have wasted plenty of fluid😅

No, didn't have that same issue
Hi, I'm going through same issue '03 A4 1.8T FWD cabriolet.
Mechanic said he also got a code (#?) for the VBelt slipping.
Is this common because of limp mode? He refused to proceed and insist I should replace the transmission. I'm at the point where I can spend $4-$5k or
Replace TCU myself for $900.
I have the ability and knowledge to do the job, it's just I have a clam shell driveway and it'll be up for a week-ish. The car has 41,000 original miles! Again I'd just like to know if the VBelt code is possible from bad control unit.
Thanks
I'm sorry, I really don't know what a "V belt" is. Can you explain a little further?
If I remember correctly, your transmission has an external TCU that is very easy to replace. But I could be mistaken
The VBelt (drive belt) is internal transmission it drives a band on 2 cones in ones I've seen apart.
This car is front wheel drive 1.8t
6 speed auto
The TCU is not under passenger seat- it looks same as one in video. My friend insist it's the shifter itself )it happened on his Benz) when I tow it home Monday first order is getting the build sticker info for transmission.
I have Audi A6 2008 2.0T which is having 01J transmission i am having error codes P1741 and P1818 i am not sure weather P1818 belongs to TCM replacing or volve body because read in a forum that replacing valve body did solve the issue i am just curious what to do
I don't personally have much experience with that platform. Are you in the States or no?
hi i have audi 2002 but only the thing the im usin g is the sport mode any idea why i cant use the transmission gear box?
Most likely something to do with the transmission control module I would imagine.
I've been looking up and down for the torque specs for the TCM and the cover (13:37 and 14:30 in the video) as well as the tightening pattern for the cover. I cannot find these in the Bentley service manual either. Does anyone knows this specs? TIA
I just tightened them down hand tight with a 1/4 turn. Cross pattern when tightening and haven't had any issues. They don't need to be really tight. Plus you will have to leave it running for a while while its lifted up so you will see if its leaking. But it shouldn't give you any trouble just making them hand tight🤙🏼
Thanks for the reply @@Mechani_Cole. I Google and found the specs somewhere: 10nM for the TCM bolts, and 15Nm for the 12 case screws. For the pattern I just went as the bolts were on a clock, i.e. 12,6, 3, 9, 1, 7 and so. No leaks and just a happy accident with one of the 18 mm bolts that I snapped because my torque wrench basically did not work. I'm buying new bolts and replacing them later. Another question regarding adaptation: after filling up and checking level, I did the D+10meters+stop for 10 seconds, R+10 meters, stop for 10 seconds, seven times in a row; I still feel the gearbox is trying to do something really clunky sometimes. Is there any other adaptation process to follow? I have ODBEleven Pro but there is no adaptation application for the A4 B7 (which makes my mad as they advertise it does)
@@mif1965 I'm not sure if there is another adaptation to do for this car. This car has been sold after the repair. Perhaps check AudiWorld.com and see if you can find anything. Best of luck!

Hello, I sent mine to modulemasters.com. I left all the details in the description of the video, hope it's helpful.
Thanks for watching
@@Mechani_Cole and the cost was ???
@goga $200 plus shipping for the rebuild.
Then about another $200 for new fluid and filter
I have 2005 audi a4 1.8turbo and sometimes mine want go out of 1st gear until i turn it off and recrank it. Is it the same problem.
Yours has a different transmission than this one. Your TCU is also very different. Not sure 100%
What that guy did to the TCU that's what i want to know. Anyway its a nice information bro. ❣️
They rebuild the internal computer board for it😁🤙🏼
Sup brother, I'm going thru this issue right now and the place you got it repaired no longer offers that service. Do you know a place that currently offers to repair this?
Yeah. Check ebay. If you can't find it still, I'll post a link when I get to the computer later. I need to update that anyways🫡
@@Mechani_Cole I've tried and no luck unfortunately 🥺
Would you know if they do allroad??
Yeah, they do pretty much all module rebuilds.
Modulemasters.com I think
So I have a 2006 A4 3.0 Cabriolet. I believe my TCM is under the hood. Do you suppose if I replace the TCM there it will fix the PRNDS issue?
Good question, haven't seen one under the hood before. But yeah, in my experience that usually fixes the issue.
Hey! Thanks for the quick response. I’ve ordered two different TCM’s from different parts of the Country in the hopes that it fixes the issue. I’ll let you know if it does. Parts are in Friday.
Keep us updated!
Well new TCM is mint, fixed the illuminated PRNDS. Still no reverse. It still loses track of gears down and up between 3-4th. I’m guessing those gears and reverse make be gone or near completely shredded. I have a second TCM coming tomorrow. May try that shifting series before I tear it apart again. 🤷🏼♂️
You try reseting adaptations? Might need a VCDS for that😬
hi, can i reuse the old gasket?
No. Best to always replace the gasket. And the seal around the plug
I just picked up a 2003 A4 3.0 Cabrio for $350. It has the CVT. Is this procedure similar on the 2003 model?
Good question, I imagine it's similar. But I can't say for sure, I've never worked on that model.
Although I did notice when reading in forums it looks like that one is an external control module and may be easier to get to. I could be wrong though
@@Mechani_Cole thanks for the input.
I followed the steps in your video to remove the tcm but when I contacted module masters in Idaho the said they don't work on that type of module. Anywhere else I can send my part for repair?
Yes, type into Ebay the year make and model with "transmission control module rebuild" and a few should pop up
Hi, I found that I have to replace a shift solenoid cause is bad, but do you know if is easy to remove the solenoid only or I have remove the valve body?
Good question, not 100% sure.
What year is your Audi?
@Roman Nevarez actually here, I found this video. Maybe this will help? ruclips.net/video/ziuB95r6jh8/видео.html

I have a 2007 Audi a4 with a bad TCM where do I send to gat repaired?
I sent mine to Module Masters in Idaho. Info in description 🤙🏼
Instead of sending out to replace the TCM could I just get a new one ? I don’t know anyone local that rebuilds the transmission control module, so just wondering if I had to rebuild it or if I could just get a new tcm ?
Yes, I think that is possible. There is no local TCU rebuild shops here either, I had to send it out to Idaho to a company called ModuleMasters. They rebuilt it and sent it back.
You can contact them and see if they sell rebuilt TCUs. The whole process only took about 5 days to get the module back when getting rebuilt as well.
@@Mechani_Cole that’s awesome thank you for letting me know the name ! I just got an Audi B7 for pretty cheap too, had a misfire and the P0706 fault code. The PRND in the dash is illuminating so I’m hoping this does the fix :) thank you for the information and great video ! Can’t wait to see what you do next
@@ItsDavidCreator appreciate that man, thank you!
You can also check Ebay to see if you can find a new or rebuilt module.
Best of luck and feel free to update here if it fixes your problem🤟🏼
@@ItsDavidCreator Hi David. I have the same fault code P0706. Did you get yours fixed? Thanks.
@@rickspohn6879 yeah I did, I sent mine out to eBay and they fixed it for me
Did Module Master let you know what the problem was? Or did they just send you back the tcm without saying anything?
They just sent me back the rebuilt TCU with a guarantee that it worked and warranty.
Sport mode for the fix!
It worked for a while😅 it was weird how it would drive in Sport just fine. This taught me something new for sure.
Thanks for watching bro🤟🏼
you just inspired me to do it on my 1.8t 2005 my reverse doesn’t work 😔 how can I get that app you have on ur phone
Double check, but your model might be easier. I think your module is external and easier to get to if I remember correctly.
And the app is called Torque pro. Just need this little Bluetooth adapter for cheap - amzn.to/3KprAUV
@@Mechani_Cole thank you brother need to get myself a android and I’ll be set

Hi, I have a 2006 Audi A4 1.8 cabriolet that reads the same P0706 code and has the flashing prnds lights. The car drives fine, and the dealership was charging about $4500 to get it fixed. I tried taking it to a couple shops and one didn’t know what the issue was while the other refused to do it with warranty concerns. Do you know what would be the best way of going about getting this fixed? Thanks!
If I remember correctly yours is a little easier than this one and you have a shift module on the outside of the trans that goes bad and can be replaced much easier and cheaper
Can put a used tcm instead of rebuilding the failing ? Or does the rebuild place have to re program it?
@tedczalbowski6262 I think a used tcm needs to match numbers and be coded to the vehicle
@@Mechani_Cole thanks for the response- few years ago i had a used transmission put in by a mechanic- not sure if he programed it or not. Do you know if it would work if it wasnt programed. I think i had the code after they replaced . Reason im asking is if i send it in to get fixed could it possibly not match original trans.
@tedczalbowski6262 it's good question. I am not certain for sure
I need to remove my 2008 Audi A4 TCM. Where is the link for the tools I'll need? Thanks!
Everything should be linked in the description that's needed✌🏽
Hi there! :)
I have an audi 2008 A4 quattro and I have that flashing problem too, but I’m also having problems when i accelerate or maintain a speed above 70 mph, the car starts to jerk.
It give me the next error code
Transmission code
05953 Clutch Pressure Adaptation: Limit Reached P1741.
And also
Engine code
09220 EVAP Leak Detection Pump Sense Circuit Implausible Signal P2404 Lower Limit Reached
What could be? :(
That's a lot of issues. Both engine codes and transmission codes will require diagnosing and multiple fixes.
Sometimes I take my car to the dealership or a good shop and pay them only for a diagnostic fee, usually around $200. But they find everything wrong and suggest the correct fixes. Sometimes it's worth it when having as many complications as you have. Once you get the diagnostic report, you could repair the items yourself if you have the tools and know how.
@@Mechani_Cole thanks for the info! :)
So my car star doing that after 30 min drive then when is cold works fine again.is the tmc or could be something alse?
Its most likley the TCU, same part as in the video. This car as well ran perfect for the first 30 mins, then it acted up once it got warm and made the lights flash and it forgets what gear its in.
This is the only module in the transmission, so its usually the problem. Hopefully you get it fixed🤙🏼
@@Mechani_Cole how much cost whit a mecanic????
@@praulscba8223 no idea. The issue is, once you remove the module, car won't be able to move until it gets finished and sent back and installed. So the car had to sit for about 3-5 days, would have to find a mechanic willing to do that. I imagine a few thousand dollars though
@@Mechani_Cole anyway thank you. Keep it upp
can u use just the tranny plug adapters with the harbor freight pump ?
I think so yeah, could always return it if not. But they should fit
Thanx for the reply … your video is super helpful .. i bought a cheap a4 08 in auction and will do some work on it . Haven’t seen a good video on changing the starter on a b7 everyone trashes the replacement on how “pita” it is to remove specially the back bolt … Saw a guy saying it’s easily accessible through the wheel well the rest are piece of cake … im yet to try it .. We’ll see … Thanks again man ✌🏼
hi i have an AUDI A8 CVT TRANSMISSION 2007 YEAR P0708 CODE IS COMING OUT AND DOESN'T COME OUT OF THE PARKING WHAT IS THE REASON?
Faulty transmission range sensor usually.
gettin it!!
Appreciate you bro🙏🏻
It's not a 7 speed as such , it's a CVT , how many "gear" settings it has is matter of software, you can theoretically programme the " tiptronic" mode to use as many different gear settings as you fancy.
Exactly
I have the same car I can drive forward but reverse is not working. What can be the problem?
Could be the same issue. Can't be sure 100% without seeing it myself
What Bluetooth scanner do you have ?

Hello, before I drain the fluid I have to warm the car?
Yes. But if its been sitting awhile you can get away without doing it
@@Mechani_Cole ok thank you
@@romannevarez4236 no problem, best of luck🤙🏼
Hi, I changed the trans fluid and now the car revs until 2000 rpm before start moving and it kinda jumps, it happens in reverse as well.. Please help, idk if I didnt fill it properly, when the car is warm a lot of fluid comes out when I take out the plug. It ran ok until I changed the trans fluid.
What fluid did you use? Exact brand?
@@Mechani_Cole I used the brand ''Valvoline'' Cvt full sinthetic oil. Maybe thats the issue? I really appreciate your help, buddy. Any thoughts?
@@danhinho yes, thats the issue. Need to use Audi specific fluids ONLY. They are expensive for a reason. Fingers crossed you didn't do any damage. I would stop driving it until you drain all the fluid out and put the correct fluid in.
@@Mechani_Cole Omg... For the record, once the car is moving, it runs just fine, no weird noises, just a stutter when accelerating from a total stop. Hopefully that's a good sign that it didn't break. Im not moving the car anymore, ill buy the right oil. Fingers crossed, mate. Thank you, I'll update when its done.

How many quarts of transmission fluid did it take brother?
About 6 full quarts of CVT fluid.

@@Mechani_Cole I installed my rebuilt TCM now and have been driving the car for 2 weeks now and the check engine code for Speed Range Sensor has not come back and the car is shifting great and no longer flashing PRNDS lights. Thanks so much!!
Afaik there should be an inner/pickup filter in the CVT too.
I didn't see one. Once the module comes out, not much left. Replaced the inline filter as Audi said thats all there was.
Perhaps on different models though, I could be wrong
@@Mechani_Cole Yeah - you have to further disassemble the gearbox to see the pickup filter (it is above the fill plug hole as is the pickup). I guess most people don't replace it unless the transmission is out of the car.
@@rkan2 thats good info! Thanks for sharing👏🏼
I was wondering about the cost of the fix for the TCM? Also the company and address that fixed it
You liked it and gave it a thumbs up but you aint provide the address to the place to FIXthe TCM?
Thought I responded, my bad. Link to the repair shop in the description. Can also check Ebay, there is a few sellers who offer the same rebuild. Not sure if the place I used still does this anymore
Okay cool do you remember the price they charged you ?
About $150-200 if I remember right. Was pretty quick too
Bet
do you think 🤔 you got TCM issues because of FEBI fluid …i heard that this CVT needs OEM FLUID
You do realize I used the Febi fluid to fix this issue right? This car has over 15k miles on it now with Febi fluid and zero issues.
The problem was the TCU was fried before I ever got it. Super common, just needed to be rebuilt. Using the Febi fluid is fine as long you get the right one🤙🏼
Can i remove the mount without supporting the transmission ? I have read that you don't have to support it but will it cause damage ?
You need to support the trans to remove the mount or it won't go back in.
@@Mechani_Cole alright. Better safe than sorry too 😬
13:28 - What a stupid idea! A "Warranty Void" sticker that sits INSIDE a gearbox filled with oil that gets hot. And where is that sticker going to go once the oil dissolves the glue and it falls off?
Had my tcu rebuilt and put it back in, now car wont turn over and wont crank. Any ideas?
Does the battery have a full charge? The TCU shouldn't affect the car starting or not whether its removed or installed.
@@Mechani_Cole just got it started, the too right plate on the transmission housing was not bolted back down so I did that and started right up. Not sure if that had to do with anything but its running now. Flashing was still going, put it in D then back to P and its gone!

I just installed my repaired TCM and my car is still going into limp mode and flashing PRNDS on dash. Not sure what to do from here
Sorry to hear that, were you able to reset any codes? Might be best to take it for a diagnostic and explain what was already repaired, maybe there is a deeper issue, or a more simple one.
@@Mechani_Cole Hi Cole. Car drives great but after the transmission warms up fully the car goes into limp mode and my PRNDS flashes again. It never does it on start up only after a while of driving the car. Do you think I might need to add more tranny oil? Only code I'm getting right now is low voltage from the TCM
Is the car stalling also a symptom of this?
Not usually. But if it stalls, it would feel like the car falls into neutral all of a sudden
Is this what you have to do to replace the transmission speed sensor also because that's the code mine in throwing
I think the trans speed sensor is some where else. Not 100% sure
