The Blender default cube is too simple for the subdivision surface modifier and there are too many incorrect methods of creating a suitable one.
Here I will show you the two best methods to create a much better cube.
It takes ages to make these!! Please consider supporting me!

These tutorials helped me so much. You can find countless tutorials for anything you want to do but nobody tells you how to do it clean. Love these simple yet effective tutorials. Keep em going, thanks!

Did I thought I had anything yet to learn about the cube : no. ! Did I learn something : definitly YES. Thank s a lot for this great vidéos and the way your provide us with a good understanding of a good mesh design.

I want to know how he does the falling letter animation. Or is it all lots of brute force like simulating a cylinder and then replacing it with a letter that happens to be right side up when it finishes and all?

@@darrennew8211 Hi darren. I made a video showing exactly how to do it! ruclips.net/video/ySL4KG2dunQ/видео.htmlsi=TfHjMWtjqXF9P7TG

      @@ianmcglasham Very cool! Thank you!
Wow, that is amazingly clever! I've done ones where the stuff happens randomly and I put textures on the end point so it looks like all the cubes are coming up the right colors, but this is brilliant. Thank you! That's a whole new technique for me.
I guess if one of the letters lands face-down, you just change the starting condition and reanimate? I'm gonna have to try this with non-rigid bodies, just to see if they jiggle into place realistically. 🙂

Where can I learn more about the reasoning or math behind the 10% and scale 2.7? I know you brush over it because it is probably complex but I would like to understand so I can apply this concept to other shapes and models of my own beyond a basic cube. Thanks!

On Page 4 in the blue box or this PDF I show the formula. I can go into more detail if you need it! pdfhost.io/v/2U4IwsSBB_IanMcGlasham_The_Cube_in_Blender_1

Is there not a Blender addon to add primitive meshes with good base topology? Seems like everyone should want to start from that point.

Doesn't this basically bias the edgeflow of your cube though? It's no longer symmetric on all three axes. 🤔

Hello, just discorvered your channel, great content. I finished the Chess piece vids tuto you've did and i'm watching the vids about the primitives, very informative. So i was wondering at 4:26, the number 2.7, what was the mathematical reason behind it. Just wanted to know more, thanks!
