That Orion sound is so damn good. I'll never get tired of it.. man.. just IMAGINE what else we would've gotten if that crash didn't happen.. RIP cliff. He basically played the bass like a guitar, but with an actual right hand bass technique and not just a pick. I think that’s part of what made him so unique and allowed him to fit into the grove so well.
@@wilhelmorangenbaumi think they were saying he played more like a guitarist but with fingers instead of a pick which most guitarists played using. The opposite would be like saying the guitarist played their guitar more like a bassist except with a pick instead of fingers. I don't think they were meaning to say playing bass with a pick isnt legitimate, which is how it sounds I'll admit, but instead actually making a statement about What he was playing (the notes and rhythm being more like what would be played by the guitarists with picks), not about How he played (using a finger technique instead of a pick).
I have great respect for musicians who have the guts to try & fill the shoes of a former or deceased member of a band. You always have to hear & see the comments about the previous member you are replacing. Metallica fans are very loyal so replacing someone in their band is its own kind of drama. Mad respect for these guys who don’t let the comparisons weigh them down.
That was👍👍👍👍....listening to just the bass riffs on "Trauma" and "Ride the Lighting" was totally in my face like nothing before. Just shows how much the vocalist and guitarists get all the glory and how much underated percussion type bass playing is
Clifford Lee Burton I will hopefully get to see you on the other side.... much love, Douglas Wilson. P.s. you were one of the great musician s I was inspired by.. I like the misfits also but I have to go back to work and I love you Cliff.
PJ bass, both pickups and tone full. Boost treble and mids a little on the amp. Play with a thin pick by the bridge and use a chorus pedal if you have one.
I was very fortunate enough to see Metallica live in Ottawa Canada when Ride The Lightning came out ('83/'84) I bootlegged it but lost the tape years ago. As a bassist, Cliff Burton was a massive inspiration to me. I thought "thank goodness, another towering bass player for the ages!!!"
I literally thought You said there was a lot of "Looters" before You talked about the Ego but the ringing in my ears was a little loud , oh and I forgot. The Full Moon, Eclipse Season too, it is a Lot 🙏💙✌️💜🌟

I like it because it's so easy to play along with. The bass is non-existent.

The only musician I have been honestly super depressed about that they couldn't make more music while they were alive. R.I.P. Cliff Burton.
