Great video, such memories of ten years In Montana, Nebraska, S and N Dakota every fall.Wire hairs and shorthairs. My last one out if Treborwolf. I’m 80 so really made my day. Thank you.
Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I truly envy the variety of upland game and the freedoms that you have in the USA. Here in South Australia we only have our wonderful Stubble quail, nonetheless, a great bird for bird dogs , extremely fast and second to none on the plate. Our quail are nomadic by nature, moving with rainfall events; they can be totally absent or in thousands. We have the worst possible Minister for the Environment, he is anti hunting and has closed ( the legal) open season for 2 years straight, even when the department has recommended an open season. There is no public land that hunting is allowed on, thankfully permissions are relatively easy to get when you go about it in the right manner. Cheerio, Bob.

Looks like it was a nice trip again, good dog work as usual. Like how you explain what you're looking for a little more depending on what you're chasing.
Outstanding eric...as usual. Like i was the hunter. Over/Under 20/410 gauge for you sir, birds need an advantage from your shot spread. Tremendous content.
Enjoy you movies, I hunted Montana back in 2014/15 when it was hot and dry. I had two great months in USA traveling and bird hunting, keep up the good work. From New Zealand
Thanks for putting in the work to make these videos. This is my first year really dedicating a lot of time to upland hunting with my first puppy. Its a lot of trial and error to find spots and birds in CA but these videos are incredibly motivating. I hope to be in your shoes in after a couple more years of working at it.
Love the videos. I have a 7 month old Draht that I am training myself and I can't wait to get out on his first real upland hunt. I am new to upland hunting, but we have hunted a few preserves here in Texas. I would love to see a video on your truck set up. I am planning on hitting the road with him next year and knowing how a seasoned hunter travels with their dogs would be valuable information. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Michael. I am loving the truck set up. It is comfortable and has saved me tons of $. I have a video showing the complete set up on my Patreon page. Good luck with that pup!
I would love for you to come to Texas panhandle. That way I can see how someone that knows what they’re doing fares in public land. It’s tough out here but we’ve had lots of rain maybe it’ll be better this year.
New subscriber and I love the absolutely reality of your hunts…misses unloaded guns preseason birds…. I live in Western Washington NOT the upland bird Mecca but I still love getting my German Shorthair out. It’s one of the things I look forward to all week is getting her out and watching her work. Great videos I’d love to be your new best friend lol.
I love on the west side to and can’t wait to get out. Found some grouse around recently. I’ve got a real young English cocker I can’t wait to get out when he’s older! Good luck out there!
Is it required to have a beard like the wirehaired dog to own and handle one? It's interesting how people choose dog breeds like them in character and looks.
I’ve never hunted central Montana but have often hunted the eastern part. I hunt with cockers. I’ll be taking my 4 cockers Jesse, Stormzy, Boots and Clay out there in October. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy watching your videos. You’ve got nice dogs. My cockers are a huge hit with the hunters I go with.
Hi there, what kind of water device do you use for your dogs? I’m trying to figure out an easy way to provide water to my dog. Looks like you have a water bottle of some sort on your back ?
@@ericforrester1 we have a home in the Emigrant area that belonged to my mama. The wife and I plan to get out there and stay so we can hunt our GSP bitch. She is only 10 months right now but doing extremely well pointing and retrieving wild bobwhite quail.
Love your videos and audio content. I assume you were hunting public land? Do you mind sharing what part of Montana you were hunting in? I love to hunt pheasants and quail in Kansas and pheasants and huns in South Dakota. Love to live vicariously through your videos and your dogs are assume?
Hi Eric, always great watching your videos. Excellent dog work and great shooting. I’m curious, hunting alone, have you trained your dogs to release (flush the bird) on command? I don’t think I’ve seen you do that. Seems that would be beneficial when alone? I’m expecting a new setter pup this spring and am planning to train that.
Great video . I've lived in Montana for 70 years . Bird hunting cycles. Great AR for sharpies and huns . Pheasants are coming back . How do you keep your dogs back in the truck cool while you're out with the other(s) ?
Eric, I really enjoy your videos. You have a great balance of content, talking, dogs, shooting etc. I am envious of your shooting skills! I post my own upland and flying videos and knows how much work goes into it. If you ever want to come out to Washington and hunt, let me know. Where are you based?
Love all your videos. Real wild bird hunting. I think I’ve seen every video you’ve made 😅 what gun are you using? It’s a good looking gun. I like automatics
What kind of resolution settings are you using on the GoPro? I hunt desert quail and it's always a struggle to get the kind of footage I see in your videos
I watched your Wyoming Chukar videos and saw you recommend Perfection Kennels Training DVD's, but they have so many different ones I was curious which ones you use/recommend. Thanks
Yeah there are a lot more choices now than when I first learned. But I used the perfect start, the perfect finish, and the perfect retrieve. It really depends on what level of training you would like to take your dog to.
With the possibility of huns, grouse and maybe even a Pheasant, what load are you using? I'm assuming a 12gauge but was wondering about the shells, thanks
Awesome video, as always! Do you ever run into issues with dogs picking up grass awns/seeds/cat tails? Lots of tall grasses out there so curious if there are some spots you choose not to run because of that.
Nice work. It doesn't appear you are collecting your shot shells? If you are my apologies, if you are not please be better. Have to leave it better than you found it.
No they aren’t trained. I’ve actually never seen one in the early season (knock on wood). My only snake encounter has been in South Dakota in November…go figure.
Seems like my dogs smell a mouse or a gopher or something and become obsessed with It. Seems like they want to hunt rodents after that. I don’t know if I’m being paranoid of if that’s what’s really going on.
I JUST WATCHED YOUR VIDEO, EXCELENT HUNTING, AN O/U SHOTGUN WOULD BE BETTER, TWO BARRELS, TWO CHOKES, CILINDER AND IMPROVED MODIFIED, ANY WAY LOTS OF FUN..GREAT DOGS WELL TRAINED AND SUPER HAPPY
It is always a pleasure to the eyes to watch your videos, dear friend, never underestimate the work of your dog
Thank you! 👍

Great stuff... I really enjoyed the video. Any advice on getting access and where in Montana you would recommend?
Great hunt Eric as expected 👍

Love good dog work, hunt western ND, we have more Huns this year in long time.
Normally im out there too but waiting on new truck not here yet

Hi there, what kind of water device do you use for your dogs? I’m trying to figure out an easy way to provide water to my dog. Looks like you have a water bottle of some sort on your back ?
Yes I have a 3 liter bladder with a valve. It works great.

I hunt from central to eastern MT.

I sometimes release them but I try not to make a habit of it. If I do it too often they will get loose.

I open the side windows and I can use a fan if it’s really hot.
You find a 12v fan that doesn't run you battery down ?
I have an auxiliary battery that is charged by solar.
Always so surprised how well you can hunt in the heat. Me and my setter never go out above 60 degrees
Me and my lab don’t go out above 40
Just to hot
Замечательная работа собак и отличная стрельба!
Хорошая охота 👍

Great video! What chokes do you use for grouse? You using 12 gauge?
I use open chokes with just target loads. I shoot a 12 but it is overkill. Grouse go down easy.

Yes. Cici went through 2 surgeries and an infection because of a grass awn. It’s pretty random so I’m not sure how to avoid it.
Glad she seems to be ok now!
Is that a Benelli Ethos you're hunting with? How do you like it? 12 gauge?
Yep, it’s a very nice gun. Light and reliable.
What Garmin equipment do you use/like? Watches, collars, handhelds?
I just use the alpha 100.
Nice very good.

@eric forrester are your dogs snake trained for these warm plains hunts? or do you just not really ever run into them?
No they aren’t trained. I’ve actually never seen one in the early season (knock on wood). My only snake encounter has been in South Dakota in November…go figure.
Have you porcupine broke your dogs or do they leave them alone? I know hunting northern Wisconsin my dog seems to get into one every other year or so.
Most of my dogs have had one or two encounters and then left them alone.
How do you know when you scare up a partridge
The sound different, they are smaller, and don’t have white bellies
What shotgun are you using. I really like the looks of it.
