    If steel vengeance was the only roller coaster there, it would already be better than 75% of amusement parks

    Cedar Point doesn’t need theming. It’s not a theme park. It’s an amusement park. It’s roller coasters and rides not about some nebulous “theme” 🤷🏻‍♀️

    How to improve? Building more shade over some of the queues and the restrooms are heinous. Great park otherwise.

      The bathroom directly to the right of the entrance gate (at least the old gate) was the worst. And yes to the queue cover! So many ride queues are open or use that mesh like fabric that does nothing.

      Kinda begs the question, why no major parks (Cedar Fair or Six Flags) in the Pacific Northwest? It's not like Portland/Seattle/Vancouver, BC couldn't afford it... You being in Portland I can see why you have to drive down to California for your fix.

      I am from MI, but now live in L.A. so, CP used to be the closest park to me growing up, so every time I visit MI, I go to CP. I also go to SFMM all the time now. The 2 parks are very different. The coaster lineups are nowhere near similar. But, CP can't be touched. Its coaster lineup edges out SFMM, even just looking at the top 5 at each. The environment is also much better. CP is beautiful. The terrain is easier to get around too. The only way, in my opinion, that SFMM beats CP is weather, longer operating season, and you never never never get bugs losing their lives as they slam into your face on a coaster, especially millennium force. Actually, you won't get bugs at SFMM at all. But that's it. CP has 6 coasters over 200 feet. I mean, that's special. And great food. MM has terrible food.

    I went once in 2018 and three times in 2019. For my first trip I got to the park about 8:30PM on a Saturday and stayed through Tuesday. It was a great trip. I agree three days the first time you go is a really good plan. I went in May so I was able to get in a lot of rides. As far as food, the best option is Melt inside the park. I like that place. As far as Breakers go the hotel is good not great. The best thing about it is that it is on-site so if you want a mid day break it makes it easy to crash for an hour or so. I'm guessing that I will spend a long weekend at Cedar Point at some point in 2020.

    I'm not someone who has been to like a boat load of parks... but I've been to a pretty good cross section of different types of parks I think.... Cedar Point, Kings Island, Dollywood, Kentucky Kingdom, The Disney Orlando parks, The Universal Orlando parks, Busch Gardens Tampa,... etc. In my opinion. out of all the parks I've been to..... Cedar Point is DEFINATELY the best park I've ever been to. The coasters are just SO awesome... and there are SO many of them.... Not to mention, the atmosphere. The park, (while maybe it could use some sprucing up here and there) is just Beautiful.... The way it's just surrounded by Lake Eerie is phenomenal... and makes it feel unique. It's so weird... It feels like an oceanside park... with the Sea Gulls and stuff all flying around. I've been trying hard to get my health back to a position that I can take my little boys to experience it. Cedar Point will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart... Even though I have to drive like 9 hours to get there lol

    Cedar Point is an amazing amusement park if you’re solely interested in roller coasters. This review is very on point. Decades ago, prior to the roller coaster focus, Cedar Point was more broadly charming but world class in no categories: It was more scenic with more trees, more family friendly with its aquarium, its zoo, had more entertainment, had two low-key log rides, a ferry boat ride, etc.
    A big upside to the roller coaster focus is that you can ride historically phenomenal coasters like Gemini or Magnum with virtually no line as the flavor-of-the-year will pull away the crowds. The park is strong enough in coasters that it could spend years improving food, theming, or building a an experience for non-thrill ride visitors without removing the draw for thrill ride customers.
    Pushing the park into being truly family friendly again is the direction the park needs to move. The slightest reduction in the coaster focus would not only make the park more broadly appealing for families with small children, the elderly, expecting mothers, and anyone with motion issues-it would also make the park visitable on any rainy day.
    It’s kind of odd that a park located on one of the world’s largest fresh water seas becomes unvisitable every time the slightest amount of water evaporates from that large body of water and falls as rain.

I hate the smelly musty olde town facilities that have amazing air conditioning and drinks but its like your in an old musty basement and i think this park is above having this kind of crap but its still my special place and im all about ripping out some water park crap and put more coasters out to replace them. Lookee like they are working on major upgrades in the beach n hotel resort . I have never had an issue with the resort and hotel/beach-ish area and even the surrounding Hotels they have purchased and renovated within that immediate surrounding properties have always been amazing too and its just easy for me when i go there .

    Great review!! You're extremely fortunate to call this incredible park your home park. I visited in summer of 2018 and I got 3 1/2 days to experience mostly everything the park had to offer. The park had a lot of first time coaster experiences for me such as my first wing and dive coasters, first giga, first accelerator and first coaster with a beyond vertical drop. Because it was my first and so far only visit, I couldn't make out things that would have improved it, any park could use improvement and being that it's Cedar Fair's flagship park, I have no doubt they'll address any issues that need to be resolved. I can't speak much for the food as I only ate at Chickie and Pete's but that was great as it was. One thing that was somewhat of an annoyance were the constant swarms of mayflies, but you can't do much about nature as it was there long before the park was. That being said, Cedar Point is definitely a park that every enthusiast has to get to at some point and it's definitely not a place to visit only once. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this amazing park, perhaps a dueling inverting GCI or 500+ft T rex?

I'm coming down to CP for the first time this May and was just going to get all the coaster credits in one day (it'll be a weekday and I'll have Fast Lane Plus so I hope it's doable) but I'm going to have to ride Cedar Downs for old time's sake!

    Platinum passes are so worth it. In my opinion, 3 days just at a park is a bit much, however, unlike most amusement parks, CP has a huge beach with water activities and you can also go to Put-in-Bay for a day and be back in time for evening and night rides for half a day at CP. SO, 3 or more days would be worth it in the Sandusky area with a variety of experiences available in addition to the park. Also, another benefit to parking by Magnum is that it's much easier to get back to your car during the day if you need to. And, Starbucks and the restaurant in Hotel Breakers are open early. I love being the 1st in that parking lot, walking to Starbucks and getting a coffee to enjoy on the quiet morning beach before going in the park right when it opens, especially with platinum early entry.

    As a Midway Ambassador that worked the Frontier Town area: saying that the Chick-fil-a there is popular is understatement. When lunch hour hit, you had to be pulling your cans at twice the rate if you wanted to have both a well maintained Midway and a clean Chick-fil-a, especially when the sensors started going bad on the cans there. Our favorite day of the week would be Sunday, because you only had to maintain the big belly cans at Stockade and the other one that is slipping my mind atm.

    The bad weather thing is honestly so true. CP is also my home park, and twice in the many times I've visited we encountered severe thunderstorms. One particular visit, it rained for about 45 minutes and many people went home. However, after the storm cleared, the weather remained beautiful for the rest of the afternoon and evening and most rides had no lines - Millennium had a 20 minute wait; I've never seen that before!

  • @racingphotographer8251
    @racingphotographer8251 4 года назад +3

    No need to apologize for CP for its lack of theming. It already has a theme: The Roller Coast :-) I've said on other videos, if you want great theming and lame rides ("it's a small world after all... it's a small world after all..."), go to Disney or Universal. if you want mediocre rides themed to DC Comics, go to Six Flags parks. If you want great rides, go to Cedar Fair parks. However, some minor touches would be nice; from pictures/videos, Cedar Point's midway looks like airport tarmac with those huge square slabs of concrete. Contrast with the former Taft parks (including my home park, Canada's Wonderland) which have all the footpaths paved with interlocking bricks.

    Cedar Point was my home park from the mid 60s til 2000. I miss the the 2 dark rides, funhouse, double ferris wheel, the one really curvy turbo jet coaster, the mini golf course and the rug slide. I'm not even sure Fascination is still there. The Earthquake was the dark ride on the main midway. It was replaced by a Berenstain bears attraction in the 80s The pirate dark ride was over by Blue Streak. Loved it but it it went away round about when Raptor went up. The Double Ferris Wheel was in between the carousel and the the sky ride. The other things mentioned were on the back side of the midway where Gate Keeper and the giant Ferris wheel are now. As far as The Breakers go it's not as integral as it once was. Back in the early 60s my best friend's mom worked at Breakers. Cedar Point was really drawing BIG name entertainers. ELVIS left her a $100 tip one night.

      Cedar Point has such a significant history with many big names of the past performing there. I know about all of those rides and really wish I could experience Pirate Ride, Jumbo Jet and Earthquake.
      I do have to point out that Breakers is probably a bigger part of the Cedar Point experience than it ever has been. It's been expanded in the 2000s and currently Cedar Fair is putting great emphasis on resort experiences at certain parks of theirs. One of those of course being Cedar Point. These hotels are doing incredibly well for the chain and we will be seeing many more resort offerings throughout Cedar Fair in the future!

    Cedar Fair parks, in general, are all excellent. Great maintenance, great rides, very little "prototypes" and excellent, old school, amusement park atmosphere. Cedar Point is by far the best park in the country, and Cedar Fair parks out-duel their closest counterparts. If I had a choice between a Cedar Fair park or say a Six Flags...CF all day. I will say the Busch parks are also excellent (I think owned by SeaWorld?).

    • @coasterdaddy7123
      @coasterdaddy7123  4 года назад

      Yes BG parks are SeaWorld Entertainment parks 🙂 I haven't been to a SF park yet, but I do think the CF parks are really nice and well managed and maintained. Most people prefer CF. SeaWorld parks look phenomenal, and they are a bit more expensive, but I feel as you pay for a more premium experience.

    • @esava44

      @@coasterdaddy7123 SF parks are "meh." Budget rides generally. Alot of them share the same rides,Maintenance is a big issue. A lot of downtime at SF parks. They are the budget line of parks. Cheaper, fairly cookie-cutter. CF somehow manages to keep the "local" parks feel the way they are supposed to. While being clean, having great landscapes, and very minimal downtime on their rides.

    Cedar Point, Busch Gardens Tampa, and Holiday World are my top 3 parks. Cedar Point for a thrill seeker is nirvana, but like you pointed out it is not perfect. The food is getting better, but still is a work in progress (Yes Pink's is gone that is where the Mac Shack is going to be) The Main Midway is a little tired and will probably be a multi-year project. And a dark ride is very badly needed. Plus a true world-class wood coaster is a glaring hole in there line up. But enough criticism Cedar Point is the best amusement park in America. Every caster lover needs to get to the Point at least once in there life. And yes if you can afford it stay on-site it really takes Cedar Point to a different level.

    Dude, at the beginning of the video, when you were introducing cedar point, you should have shown it as you're coming down the cause way, just as it's coming into sight. that's when you really start getting excited, when you can start to see the park, and the rides.

      Yes I know. I thought I may have had some footage of that but I didn't, because I wanted to do that too lol

    Is buying the fast pass actually worth it. Soon as that park open I'm there!!!!!

      It really depends on a lot of things. How busy it is, how much time you have, how long the fast pass lines are etc.

      Disaster Transport was not a dedicated dark ride though.

    I wonder if they will open by late June or July? I really hope so, I miss the summer vibes this park came with

      There are RUMORS circulating that they will open soon. Valravn is actually testing today and people have posted screenshots of a text they got from CP in regards to applications letting people know they want to set up an interview.

    • @coasterdaddy7123
      @coasterdaddy7123  4 года назад +1

      Absolutely! Two pretty different parks, but both huge in size and quantity of rides.

    Does the park have a lot of closed attractions on weekdays in May?

    • @coasterdaddy7123
      @coasterdaddy7123  4 года назад

      I don't recall major attractions being closed typically. I will pay more attention this year and see. Last year was my first time having my own pass and visiting on a regular basis for 12 years so I was stoked being back and active in the community. I think that gave me more of a Rose colored vision at the beginning of the season 😅

      None the the big stuff would be closed unless there's some mechanical or electronic maintenance issues plaguing it.
      Some of the smaller flats, water rides, and children's rides are often closed for various reasons (reduced staff, not appropriate to the crowds that are there, not appropriate for the weather).
      Some of the bigger rides will run reduced train counts, but that's not all bad. For example Raptor usually runs without trims with 2 trains.

      @@RadioMuse1 yeah that's what I remember from May.

      Staffing issues are real in May, but by-and-large rides are open. Don't expect Gemini to be racing, but if you're there all day you should see all the attraction mentioned in the video (coasters & maor flats) operational. Most shows however, are often not scheduled to begin running daily until after Memorial Day weekend.
