      how do i tune it differently?

    • @roundPrince
      @roundPrince 9 месяцев назад +4

      Same here. I’m self taught for the most part- and for the past 15 years I’ve just stuck to standard- and drop D, and was always intimidated by alternate tunings because my theory is shaky, but I’m branching out finally and finding all these cool new sounds I can make but I’ll always be the most comfortable in standard- i know where everything is and how it works haha

    • @roundPrince
      @roundPrince 9 месяцев назад

      @@azariahsimpson709 for this tuning- youre gonna tune your low E to D, keep the A where it is, Tune The D to E, Tune the G to A, The B to C#, and keep the high E where it is.
      You can either use a tuner app that has alternating tuning modes and choose daec#e but those you usually have to pay for- or you can find a free app or tuner that has manual mode or pitch tones- sometimes find it easiest if you have a piano or keyboard handy to just match the tones to that by ear.

      @@roundPrincedo it! I’ve been playing solely on alt tunings now for about 2 years and wish I started sooner but it always seemed like it would be learning guitar over again and didn’t wanna have to constantly change tuning and set ups but now I got a guitar for each of my 3 most used tunings to keep it simple

      Do you play the same chord shapes and they sound 'better' or do you have to learn different shapes on these tunings?

    • @fendertelecaster8409
      @fendertelecaster8409 2 года назад +2

      @@patientswim6888 Mostly different chord shapes. What I did to learn it was play around on the pentatonic and figure out shapes based on hearing. Though I'm not vey well familiar with much theory I'm sure would make learning it much easier

    I just uploaded my first riff in this tuning, but I feel like I have trouble structuring songs. It would be really helpful to see a tutorial on song structure, specifically for math rock/midwest emo. It's hard for me to write a part for a particular section, like writing a chorus vs a verse for some reason. Pop songs are really easy for me to quickly identify the sections, but for whatever reason it's harder for me with more mathy stuff. Thanks for all your tips!

    I'm not a musician, but I have a weird mind that likes to think in patterns, and in researching music (particularly intervals and tunings) and then doing a bit of "math" I'm curious about something. DAE-CGD low-high (with the C lower than the E, however) tuning for guitar. Two sets of perfect fifths, offset/overlapped by a major third, with both the lowest and highest strings being the same note, but several octaves apart, for parity.

    It's a shame that EADGBE is the dominant tuning taught. There is so much more potential for innovation if other tunings became mainstream.

      Honestly this. I think a lot more people would continue playing instead of giving up if this was the accepted norm. Learning other tunings first really helped me click into learning standard which I just couldn’t enjoy.
