    It would be very nice if you made a video about Jean-Jacques Burnel ("The Stranglers"). I think he's one of the best bass players of British '77 punk and new wave.

    Learning how to play bass from listening to reggae, as Simonon did, is _never_ a bad thing. I wish more bands today listened to reggae and drew from it.

    Very Underated Paul he said in an interview that he messed up alot when playing live but he just enjoyed playing can we have Klaus Fluoride The Dead Kennedys Next Please 👌👍✌️

    This is by far the best analysis of Simonon's bass playing. You have to be a good musician to be able to analyze other people's music in such thorough manner. Thanks!

      respectful of Simonons contribution despite his limited abilities on the instrument - An example of mixing musicians with non musicians and making it work - my experience of this on a mundane level is that 9 out of 10 cases this is not a strategy that usually bares fruit, but in the case of Clash, Sex Pistols and surprisingly Souisiox and the Banshees (most of which were non musicians at the start) It obviously did

      What? I’ve watched a lot of movies, lots of them set in London and I don’t recall ever hearing London Calling in any of them.
      Or the Clash period for that matter.
      They’re more known for Rock The Casbah and Should I Stay Or Should I Go in the US

    Simonon and Duff McKagen are why I switched to bass decades ago. When I was first learning to play I spent hours with London’s Calling and Appetite for Destruction learning every song on both LPs. Awesome video as always

      @@Mrmikey0909 It's blurred because she took a fast action shot with a film camera in concert lighting. That happened when your ISO didn't go above 400. I know - I used to shoot photos of concerts in the early-mid-80s, half a decade after the London Calling shot was taken.

    Congratulations on getting to play Paul Simonon's bass line on the Spotify series. I didn't even realize they had an audio documentary about the Clash. I'm going to give it a listen.

    Besides not playing the bass on The Magnificent 7 he also did not play the bass on The Guns of Brixton that was Joe Strummer.

      Live for sure as it is quite difficult, particularly for an intermediate player such as Paul, to do under pressure but why wouldn't he have done it in the studio?

    You forgot about the fact that most parts were actually dubbed by mick Jones. That’s why it has a “chorus” when you listen to the parts in isolation.

      @@andressepulveda9709 I love Paul, but there's no chance in hell that he wrote the bass for Lost in the Supermarket (if you listen to the isolated track, this should be pretty obvious). There's no other musician credited, so it's a reasonable assumption to consider it was Mick.

    He said his style came from LACK of technique…he was drafted in the band for his good looks & artistic talent rather than his chops
    Paul said that he got into reggae as he could hear the bass on his records unlike the busier style of the likes of John Entwistle of The Who

    Paul is a great player & yes it's him on the majority of the record's but he didn't write all of the bass lines & he didn't play all the bass lines on the record's. Just saying.

      He has just released a new album, a collaboration in a band called Galen and Paul. What I've heard is sublime.
      I'd recommend Room at the Top for starters.

    Nice! He also used a Epiphone Rivoli Bass on a lot of Londoncalling (check out the isolated bass stuff) and a Wal bass on Give em enough rope. A lot of Sandinista was Norman Watt Roy on Bass, at least 5 tracks.
