when i win the lotto i want one of these .Perfect waves on tap,no crowds unless you invite them, and no travel costs.I am not religeous but that sounds bloody close to heaven to me.Thanks for posting
oops i thought you were referring to the chronically crowded wave pool in tokyo.. yeah i checked out 'surf wave pool japan' - you're right - that place is sick
surfing was about testing the limits, pushing your body in variable and uncontrollable conditions, hence the rush and the thrill...if its all under control then sure you get a kick out of it but theres no wild experience to go with it
@MrPilago808 ASR have done that a long time ago. This is the next step that doesn't rely on weather-generated swell. And it can be deployed in places that aren't fortunate enough to have a coast near to them. 'Make sense now?
If you search for the statistics, you will find out that BRAZIL, (São Paulo city) is the best place in all world to create a wave surfing pool. That's for sure!
@barney470 except that the act of riding waves is still fun whether they are man made or not.. this will never replace natural waves so don't worry about it..
I'm pretty much up for it..it would be an amazing opportunity to train your riding. So much surfing time is lost trying to keep up with shifting peaks, varying set sizes crowds tides e.t.c. it'll be heinously expensive but maybe time will calm that down too. the ocean will always be there. bring on the future
well that's great. So now we don't need to travel to remote tropical islands and get up early. Eat a good breakfast as the sun rises behind the palm trees and then paddel out in crystal water over vibrant collored coral reefs to surf the perfect barrels. We can just go to a wavepool for all we need. How long is the ride and what did it cost to build one of those again?
unfortunately I've lived and surfed as a professional on the nearest coast to Orlando. The Ron Jon wavepool went bust and from what I hear this was a pie in the sky idea. Typhoon Lagoon was four times this size and the wave was as long as a real one. It was built close to twenty years ago too. What a scam and piss waste of money. The waves in Maylasia, Spain, and Canary Islands are already way ahead of this.
If I win Powerball I will make the ultimate wave pool. It will have an adjustable floor/seabed So I can change how the wave breaks. The floor will be made up of 1 meter square cubes that can be moved up and down by hydrolics. Want a hollow barreling wave, no worries I create a ledge. Fat wave into a barrel we can do, performance wave like trestles no problems. Want to peel perfectly we can do by tunning the cubes, prefer air section we just line up a section of cubes.
@emrico1 That was a joke but i ridae all boards and ive seen some rippers getting more modern prerformance out of a single fin than quads etc. That is SKILLS my friend..Kooks ride fat wide singles too but to rip on one is harder than a thruster.
@MrPilago808 Can't always have swell or the right wind for an artificial reef. You can't surf an artificial reef inland either. Existing artificial reefs have been expensive failures to date whereas some wave pool success has been attained at Siam and Japan.
Even if this worked on a larger scale pool it's not the whole surfing experience and has no soul. There's no effort and commitment in paddling out, no anticipation and excitment sat in the line up wonder what the next set will be like....no stoke. For me paddling out in freezing cold, blown out, raging winter sea's makes the super clean, warm summer days all the sweeter, the good days with the bad it's what surfing is about.
there is no barrel or air section anymore, went passed the supposed wave pool about 4 months ago in orlando and its overgrown with weeds, out of money , and a total failure on a large scale......
@TWISTEDRIFTER for sure lol. Riding retro boards is awesome fun :) A good surfer can rip on any decent equipment. There are some trippers who hide behind shit old shapes and mals etc who claim they would scralp on a shortboard if they wanted to but we all know that is BS.
@Koloaboy96756 I'm not talking about mother nature, I'm talking about science improving OVER TIME. You saying it will NEVER happen is like people 100 years ago saying phones, cars, planes, rockets, lasers will never happen.
the real pool will be much wider it will probably close out in the middle somewhere. just wait until the day they are making surf pools to break better than the best spots in the world
Would this be the same professor Black who took $2m dollars from the rate payers of our little Taranaki town and dumped some sand bags in our beach and rode off into the sunset saying how he'd create a world class artificial reef.excuse me if I sound a bit sceptical.
this is fantastic! ye something is lost when you eliminate mother nature...it wont completely compare to all the elements coming together naturally ....wind, tides, swell direction and size, but not everyone has direct access to the surf. not everyone lives by the coast. and if you are lucky enough, you too will notice how crowds are increasing dramatically yet wave quality and quantity isn't,(chesk out Mornington Peninsula to see what I mean). Wave pools are all good in my books!
With wedges like that shown you would get too much speed for how slow the tube is grindinng. IMO you would outrun the tube naturally, without trying. IMO faster tubes are more fun. Therefore the pool should be wider and you need more of a channel.
I love wave pools they are a great idea... By the way all the people that do not like wave pools and standing waves, flowrider etc. Do your realize that they have the potential to be better than the real thing. It would cost a fortune but its possible, also its not the intention to make better than real beaches just different and more importantly constant so there are MORE waves . If you do not like it. do not surf it or look at these clips then. Douche bags
@pan1pan1 To be honest I even enjoy the raging winter sea's. Sometimes they can be just excellent even in places like Norfolk (England). But agreed, these types of pool's are ruining the traditional "Surfing" however. If you're a surfer and you move somewhere that has no surf then surely you and I both would go to these? Don't get me wrong I love the real deal but i'd love to give these a try they seem a bit of fun if you have nothing to do and the swell is blown out !
Cool, i would surf that wave if its real. In Switzerland we surf in standing waves in the river or behind boats, thats the same mathematical thing to get a good wave! If interested you find some videos on my page surfing standing river waves And if your pool isnt to expensive I think it would be nice to build one in Switzerland.
Really? Can you show explain the math behind a perfect wave? I'm pretty sure the engineers, physicists, and computer scientists all working on this project know what they're doing.
Visionary my ass !! I have never heard such shit in all my life. The project at Festival Bay was an unmitigated disaster.......just ask the client who paid $1M USD
ny idea where can I buy this devices..ive seen other kind called flow ride or wave houses id like to sell and install them for people down in latin america
@ahikiller420 any idea where can I buy this devices..ive seen other kind called flow ride or wave houses id like to sell and install them for people down in latin america
if you think this is bullshit, you obviously dont know anything about what you're talking about. the small waves are from a 1/10th scale model. id like to see you try and make a wave like that.
when i win the lotto i want one of these .Perfect waves on tap,no crowds unless you invite them, and no travel costs.I am not religeous but that sounds bloody close to heaven to me.Thanks for posting
Great idea, the more kooks we can get out the sea and into wave pools the better. Roll em out across the world. :)
Thanks for your research and development efforts! We just published a video of wave-pool technology in 2013.
The beautiful thing for everyone who opposes surfpools is, that you won't be forced to ride it!
oops i thought you were referring to the chronically crowded wave pool in tokyo..
yeah i checked out 'surf wave pool japan' - you're right - that place is sick
the magic is riding the wave...everythign else is a bonus
imagine riding the little artificial wave with an RC surfer - fkn sweet
although you couldn't really get any further from nature
@Cheapsh0t247 it goes left too. Just switch the pumps around and it makes lefts.
surfing was about testing the limits, pushing your body in variable and uncontrollable conditions, hence the rush and the thrill...if its all under control then sure you get a kick out of it but theres no wild experience to go with it
i think that places like these are perfect for people in the midwest, but not a state that has its own ocean
@sirfender8 yeah, but in florida the waves dont get above 2 feet unless a storm comes up from the carribean.
omg thats a perfect barrell wish they could do something like this in New Zealand
I've been on the membership list for the Ron Jon Surfpark
since 2006. Sadly I wonder if they will ever open...
that would be sickif they had a massive one of those and turned it into a park, for us people that dont have the luxury of the ocean:D
i wish every wave pool was like that. but bigger pool. and adjustable waves.
Wouldn't it be awesome if those guys were your neighbors and they made a HUGE wave pool?!
Only bummer is that it's a rly short ride oh well it was by far the glassiest wave I've ever seen
@MrPilago808 ASR have done that a long time ago. This is the next step that doesn't rely on weather-generated swell. And it can be deployed in places that aren't fortunate enough to have a coast near to them. 'Make sense now?

@MrPilago808 The thing is, making a reef doesn't mean there will be a wave...
id love to see one in maryland
dude, i totally died last week while i was surfing. shows what you know.
well that's great. So now we don't need to travel to remote tropical islands and get up early. i like how at the end you slam into a wall, try going to the beach an catching a wave instead for free and use the money on something worthwhile
unfortunately I've lived and surfed as a professional on the nearest coast to Orlando. The Ron Jon wavepool went bust and from what I hear this was a pie in the sky idea. WOW A WHOLE 5 SECOND RIDE!
that made me soo thirsty. all those waves in that pool looked so smooth i just wanted to drink one. haha
@barney470 this could be a practice or just a fun thing for inland people
@emrico1 That was a joke but i ridae all boards and ive seen some rippers getting more modern prerformance out of a single fin than quads etc. That is SKILLS my friend..Kooks ride fat wide singles too but to rip on one is harder than a thruster.
@emrico1 yep but in saying that i think ill stick with quads thrusters and twin fishes for a while lol...
@MrPilago808 Can't always have swell or the right wind for an artificial reef. You can't surf an artificial reef inland either. Existing artificial reefs have been expensive failures to date whereas some wave pool success has been attained at Siam and Japan.
@MrPilago808 this is the same company that made the artificial reef in boscombe, google that and see how well thats worked.
I would love to work in a project like that!
And just to make it a bit real a 25 ft great white in the tank .
and he forgot to say that mother earth does it for free every day
but seriously that is sooooo sick
@bflow86 it wasnt consistant and had backwash issues. only some waves were good.
at the moment i'm doing a project similar to that one, at school lol =P
wish i know how they do a so perfect barrel in that small tank..
@Koloaboy96756 the one in japan, ocean dome, i think is crazy sick.
Has anyone noticed how crowded the ocean is getting? If someone can build a quality, affordable wave near me, I'm in.
They also failed to deliver at Mt Maunganui in New Zealand. Cost to community $1.3 million!! Is there a money back guarantee?
there is no barrel or air section anymore, went passed the supposed wave pool about 4 months ago in orlando and its overgrown with weeds, out of money , and a total failure on a large scale......
OK, if your a regular foot surfer i guess, can you not develop a point break, but seriously, good efforts guys, nice job
crazy how new zealand was at the forefront of this
@barney470 yes, but this could be awesome for places that don't have a beach :/
i wish i had that in my back yard
That is amazing only if it had bigger waves
@Koloaboy96756 true but when there are no waves it wud b koo 2 get sum at a nearby wave pool
@barney470 yea but some people live in kansas and they want the same experience
It’s here
@TWISTEDRIFTER for sure lol.
Riding retro boards is awesome fun :)

at least the beaches where i live wont be crowded :D
the real pool will be much wider it will probably close out in the middle somewhere. just wait until the day they are making surf pools to break better than the best spots in the world
that looks sick
its sooo realistic that you can even hit a wall .... because thats what happens in the ocean your limited to the length you can go
UN Fruckin Real mate. Bring it on !
Would this be the same professor Black who took $2m dollars from the rate payers of our little Taranaki town and dumped some sand bags in our beach and rode off into the sunset saying how he'd create a world class artificial reef.excuse me if I sound a bit sceptical.
the only problem is that the waves are 1/2 foot tall
i'd like to be 2 inches tall to be able to ride those small ones.
@MrPilago808 wow no body would say no to this on a flat day
this is fantastic! ye something is lost when you eliminate mother nature...it wont completely compare to all the elements coming together naturally ....wind, tides, swell direction and size, but not everyone has direct access to the surf. not everyone lives by the coast. and if you are lucky enough, you too will notice how crowds are increasing dramatically yet wave quality and quantity isn't,(chesk out Mornington Peninsula to see what I mean). Wave pools are all good in my books!
Make it 4-5 and ill love it
make that wave 6 foot and im hooked
@Koloaboy96756 Maybe at the moment, Remember just like you're phone technology always improves.
With wedges like that shown you would get too much speed for how slow the tube is grindinng. IMO you would outrun the tube naturally, without trying. IMO faster tubes are more fun. Therefore the pool should be wider and you need more of a channel.

next thing you know they will be making the perfect blow up doll
yeah but theres a lot of people that live miles away from the beach, so its kinda difficult to surf....
hawaii would love it
Cool, i would surf that wave if its real. In Switzerland we surf in standing waves in the river or behind boats, thats the same mathematical thing to get a good wave! If interested you find some videos on my page surfing standing river waves

DAMN!! I wanna be part of this but that wave was to short to ride (the 1 with humans on). From a bodyboarder.
of course the ocean is better, But it gets cold and flat where I live! Bring it! Indoor, night, warm Yea
hilarious yo!...thanks for the laugh!
So when you hit the wall..
japan has one already and I think it's the best!!!
theres a mad one in japan the ocean dome
is this the wave pool that's commin in the ron jon surf park?
wow i would so fingerboard those mini waves
(i have a finger surfboard)
Really? Can you show explain the math behind a perfect wave? I'm pretty sure the engineers, physicists, and computer scientists all working on this project know what they're doing.
Wasn't Kerry Black kicked out of Waikato University?
WHAT IS THIS A WAVE FOR ANTS?
"We're using real Physics" LOL.
What else would you use to create waves? Unreal Physics? Real Chemistry?
@rightbowlcutback Amen bro!
Visionary my ass !! I have never heard such shit in all my life. The project at Festival Bay was an unmitigated disaster.......just ask the client who paid $1M USD
half a million? its like 10 million
Where is this now?
ny idea where can I buy this devices..ive seen other kind called flow ride or wave houses id like to sell and install them for people down in latin america
I am a brotha from the old and got some age on me but I LUV THIS KIND OF SHIT HELL YEA I WOULD DO IT!!!!!!!!!
i hope they make them big and get all the kooks and learners out of the real surf
@ahikiller420 any idea where can I buy this devices..ive seen other kind called flow ride or wave houses id like to sell and install them for people down in latin america
what i wouldn't give to be a mouse
if you think this is bullshit, you obviously dont know anything about what you're talking about. the small waves are from a 1/10th scale model. id like to see you try and make a wave like that.
2:54 looks like a 5 year olds drawing
2:04 spit ftw
incredible
@barney470 its just alot safer for the people that are scared of fish lol
