He is still my favorite player ever. His play style was so beautiful to watch. I hate ranking players over generations. But we can all agree he is special
I have three short Peter Forsberg stories (I'm from northern Sweden). The first time I saw him play for MoDo he did moves I thought were physically impossible. I was blown away. The second time I saw him was at a gas station late at night outside of Umeå in northern Sweden. He was already in Colorado at that point, but now back home, driving an expensive car (Mercedes I think) and stopping to take a leak by the roadside at the same time I was pumping gas for my cheap car. No one believed me when I got back in the car. The third time was at a bar called REX in Umeå, Sweden, when he walked in with his friends and I extended my hand for a handshake. He was shorter than me, but the hand was larger than mine by a huge margin, and pure bone hard muscle. It was like trying to shake hands with a piece of immovable sculpted oak. I didn't wash my hand for two weeks. Best player I ever saw. Cheers 🍺

Yeah by players and huge hockey fans of that era he is as highly rated as anyone though. So that counts for plenty. The guy was everything, possession, +/-, clutch, scoring, playmaking, physicality, smarts. May be the best I've ever seen.
I’m a penguins fan and of course we were pretty spoiled in the 90s but oh my goodness was the Colorado avalanche of Fantin to watch throughout the 90s and early 2000s. Forsberg was one of my favorite players. What a bummer that he had to retire early. Glad you guys got him on the pod.

How forsberg was so good and so productive through the injuries is truly amazing. Bobby Orr esq. And guess which two jerseys are hanging in my closet lol
2:15:05 - _In that year,_ He averaged 1.25 points per game. Crosby averaged 1.26 The next season, Forsberg averaged .96 ppg despite missing a 1/3 of the season due to injuries. Great interview with a legend! Also, it's funny to hear the complaints about pro games and commercial breaks when every 2 minutes a commercial cuts into your RUclips channel.
I think Foppa is a top 3 player all time if it weren’t for the injuries. Dude was so skillful and naturally talented. Glad I got to see him play in person in my life.
True or at least best euro with Lidstrom,Jagr,Selanne. Most people's 1. Gretzky 2. Lemieux 3. Bobby Orr 4. Geordie Howe 5-12 interchangeable to me obviously Ovi and sid.
My opinion after going thru stats calculated ice time factor in plus minus etc at his peak was is just as good as Lemieux. Lindros. Jagr etc. But due to playstyle I prefer Foppa.
@@faisalshab1 In 1989 Lemieux had an estimated ice time of 26+ minutes. Divide his stats with that and give him something like 21 min. Then you should factor in the average goals per game from that season and compare it with today (medium) or Forsbergs peak (02 playoffs until 04) it was all time low by then. Also go check the adjusted plus minus for teams and im assure you the gap is minimal. That is for peak alone and not prime. But at his best Forsberg is very underrated. He did pass the eye test too. For all time my brain say McDavid is the best but my heart will always be with Foppa. Nothing wrong in picking other players aswell you could make a case for a lot of them depending on what you care about the most and how long stretches of peak play you consider valid. I for example look at Foppas best strech including all playoffs from 02 intill injuries broke him in like game 20-30 or so in the high scoring 05/06 season. I have done the same for Cosby from the later half of the 09/10 season with all playoffs included until 13 and he had slightly better scoring but the Foppa had the edge on him in adjusted plus minus for team. I dont blame people picking Crosby either but many players from the top come a lot closer when you start to look into such things. Another one of note: both Gretzky and Lemieux had Paul Coffeey during their best scoring seasons. That is exactly like if McDavid and Karlsson got to play together during this season. Do you think McDavids stats would increase or decrease by having this version of Karlsson on his team? I see McDavid being even more dominant than now. Have a good day
FYI, Foppa won the tv-show in Sweden. On pure fucking will. It was great to see. The show is called "Mästarnas mästare" translated to "Champion of champions". He also came 2nd in a show called Superstars that is similar to Mästarnas mästare.
I went to some home games during his peak. I remember a game against the Blue Jackets where you could hear people hold their breath to focus as Forsberg jumped the boards.

Foppa!!!! As a hardcore Flyers fan, when I learned of the Lindros deal to bring him to Philly....I was beyond ecstatic!!! Then, Foppa spent the next 9 seasons freaking reminding me ...of just how wrong I was!!!! 😉 Does make a Flyer fan wonder. Had ther deal not gone through.... Huff was no slouch. Ricci was a gamer and well...Hexy. That crazy bastard lol. Nowz living in Phoenix the last 45 years and the Yotes being my #2 team..and the way they have been playing....makes me think of the Avs and moving to Denver and winning the cup. You guys should get the Argentina Goalie (Emi Martinez) on the podcast! Speaks perfect English and he is HILARIOUS! I know it’s a hockey pod but would probably turn into one of your most watched shows if you had him on.
You know what pisses me off as a Boston based hockey player, case in point Bruins vs Ottawa in 2017 playoffs, is they only call the offsides review after a goal is scored if a coach wants to dispute offsides it should be immediate not after the production of a goal There should be a 5 second rule after the player crosses the blue line then no dice!
I really love you guys... i saw your sandbaggers match with Teemu. I live in CDC (abbreviated on purpose), and have played with teemu a few times. Me and Teemu are the only winnipegers living in CDC (lol). I also played hockey growing up. The hitting and fighting I never cared for. It's what got me out of hockey. And it turns off more people than it attracts. The old school mentality of hockey has to go. It's so bush league. I would much rather see a really nice goal than Paul Kariya get lit up by Scott Stevens. I remember when I played, I was absolutely frightened to cut across the middle like Kariya did. It's absolutely why i quit hockey. Even now while I play in the beer league, I'm petrified every time anyone tries to cut across the middle. Gretzky probably retired because he was absolutely getting killed out there. I remember when Messier hit Gretzky from behind. It looked awful. My opinion is that eventually hitting will completely disappear in the NHL.
There's also the problem with commercials that marketing is somehow just okay with less than 1% of viewers actually ever buying their product. It's the most inefficient waste of money in the World, but big business just eats the cost because of the perceived lack of alternative. Meanwhile we as a society are paying the price by being absolutely inundated by content that is engineered to be as manipulative to us as possible.
I get that it's a "players podcast" but if you can say before a coach ever walks into a locker room "well he's gonna hate that guy", then there's a problem. With both the coach and definitely the player.
