    Ooh I really want to go to that college! I’m not even in high school but I’m trying my best to get good grades to be able to get into that college!

      It isn't as hard as it looks to get in especially if you're in state. If you go to the community college here first and do generals then transfer you are basically auto accepted into the U. So there's a loophole if you are concerned about getting into the U at first with bad grades.

      Stay focused during high school. Freshman grades matter. I lost sight of my future and didn’t have the best grades. So make sure you stay as focused as you can

    How would you describe the student life at the U? I’m moving out of state and I’ve read all this stuff about how it’s a commuter school so there isn’t really any student life like regular colleges. I’m pretty introverted and going to a totally new school without knowing anyone is kinda scary. So I was wondering if it’s hard to meet new people or make close friends especially because most people commute.

    • @LaurenMortensen99
      @LaurenMortensen99  4 года назад +3

      Emma B LIVE ON CAMPUS FOR AT LEAST YOUR FIRST YEAR! I’ve seen all the talk about it being a commuter school too but that’s really just for the people who are from the area and are still living at home. But I would highly recommend living on campus your first year in the dorms. It’s hard to meet people outside of your major if you’re already decided but trust me you’ll get to know everyone in your classes and your dorm really quick. I’m pretty introverted too and living in a dorm with four other girls where we had to see each other helped a lot. The other commuter aspect is that there isn’t really enough housing on campus for people past their freshman year so most people have to move off campus and living in the city is pricy so lots move down more south for more affordable housing. But don’t worry about not meeting people. There’s tons of events on campus but it is mostly first year people going to them since they live on campus and want to meet more people. I’d also recommend looking into clubs or jobs on campus before you move over here. Look into the freshman ambassador board. It’s something I wish I knew about before coming to the U to help me make more friends!

    so i am going to the u w a business major and right as you said the business school in the beginning i came here lol😂😂. can u give a quick run down on what to expect as a business major at utah? likes and dislikes of the school in general too?? thank you!

    • @LaurenMortensen99
      @LaurenMortensen99  4 года назад +5

      Join business scholars!!!! That’s my biggest advice. I don’t know when the deadline to apply is but definitely look into it. Look into clubs and organizations before you get there and join whatever seems interesting to you. But if you’re plan on on having a job and like partying you’re not gonna have time for all the clubs lol. But the business school hires students for like front desk jobs so you can look into that too. But definitely apply for business scholars! It will set you up for everything you need!

    Are you in the apartment style dorm? Like the one in which every student has their own room in the 4/2?

    • @LaurenMortensen99
      @LaurenMortensen99  3 года назад +1

      Angelica Muniz the dorm is called Sage Point and it’s apartment style in the sense that everyone gets their own room but there is no living room or kitchen. There’s 2 bathrooms and 5 roommates in my suit and a microwave down the hall in a communal room but I wouldn’t quite call it apartment style. There are dorms such as Shoreline and Benchmark that do that living rooms and kitchens in the apartment suits, however, and the rooms are just about the same size and layout at this one from Sage Point!

  • @anya-td3gb

    Does University of Utah have some kind of need-based aid? And does the aid cover dorms? As an international student these are super important to me! :)
    Andddd can I work on campus as an international student?

    • @LaurenMortensen99
      @LaurenMortensen99  3 года назад +2

      anya the need based aid would be based on what you enter into financial aid for the school. I got a little bit of need based aid but not enough to cover the dorms. Most of my scholarships came from the business school since I decided on that going in and other colleges usually do the same thing depending on what you’re wanting to go into. Working on campus shouldn’t be a problem. There’s a website where you can see all the jobs available on campus and apply super easily. It’s kinda hard to get a job on campus but not impossible! I’ve had to take out loans every year but it just depends on what you get in scholarships!

    Is it hard to get a single dorm room (no roommates?) how expensive was it?

    • @LaurenMortensen99
      @LaurenMortensen99  4 года назад +4

      Not hard at all. I was worried about that at first but the dorms were made for the Olympics when they were here so there's actually a lot of single rooms. The price changes every year (its always going up) but its online if you look up like "u of u on campus housing costs" theres a pdf that should show up with all the costs! It's paid upfront with tuition but if you do the math it was probably about maybe 600-800 a month?

    Hey, nice vid:) i just wanted to know what the party life and campus life is like at utah and how's your journey at utah been so far? also, i just saw one of the comments and read that the utah government is horrible, why so? sorry im asking lotta questions😂

    • @LaurenMortensen99
      @LaurenMortensen99  4 года назад +5

      Ishaan Bhatia thanks! The Utah government is basically run by the Mormon church and have a really hard time with the whole separation of church and state concept. But Salt Lake City itself is pretty liberal, lots of cool places to eat and hang out, the U campus is really really pretty and the layout of classes and dorms is really well designed. All of my classes are in the same area so I don’t have to worry about running across campus to get to class. Party life depends on the groups you’re in. Sports teams and frats have the biggest parties but you have to know someone to get in and if you’re a dude you can’t go to a frat party if you aren’t in that frat. That’s mostly because if a guy not in the frat does something stupid it’s put on the frat. Campus life and groups on campus are usually pretty good and fun you just have to actually join a club or something. Everyone here is really nice in my experience and from what I’ve seen every major has good professors and courses but like our business, medical, and engineering fields are some of the best. I’m on track to graduate a semester early right now and the counselors here are really willing to help as much as possible. There’s not really any staff working here that hate being there. Overall it’s a good place to go to college but depending on personal viewpoints it can be kinda annoying living with the church constantly watching over you.

    How would u describe the diversity at the U? I’m considering it, but diversity is important to me, and from the stats I’ve seen 😬😩

    • @LaurenMortensen99
      @LaurenMortensen99  4 года назад +3

      Xo Xo I’m from a small town in Idaho so compared to that there’s a ton more diversity. However, yeah it is mainly white people with a fair amount of money from their parents. Religion wise it isn’t super Mormon like what people assume because anyone who is is gonna be going to BYU. We have a pretty big Asian population because there is a u of u campus in Asia and I think there’s some exchange program with that. But yeah if diversity is really really important for you I probably wouldn’t recommend it. It is a good school for a lot of programs depending on what you wanna go into but at least in the business school and just walking around on campus and I work there, mainly white or Asian. Of course there are other people of color there and tons of organizations on campus for good safe spaces but I mean it’s Utah. You can’t expect a whole lot of color other than white as much as it sucks. Also the Utah government is horrible and that’s given me consideration to leave asap but yeah. Some diversity. But not more than you’d expect

    • @monikat7902
      @monikat7902 3 года назад

      Viviana Ordonez it just is there’s so many things that fall into it but there’s a lot of people in legislation that drive their beliefs into what they vote for etc. Which should be the separation of church and state but idk. Utah’s government just isn’t the best but it’s not horrible. Personally I’ve been on a tour during a conference to pass bills and their are some good people however their are also people that just seem to... be there

    • @LaurenMortensen99
      @LaurenMortensen99  3 года назад +1

      Nah I was out of state and got it and as long as your gpa and stuff is what they’re requiring you should get in just fine. I was in business scholars my freshman year and that gets you auto-accepted into the business school as an undergrad so if you’re going to be a first year I would recommend applying for that
