I'm glad you decided to go ahead and talk about it! Honest to God, I loved every part of that special. This is coming from a "Q" lmao. We knew who Dave was when we met him, and so, I'd expect us all to have an understanding of what we're getting. However, I do understand and respect people's offense. But, I just feel like he never had hateful intentions. And, comedy is designed to tread the line. Good comedy, almost, always does. Y'all rock. #davidsoisfamous
I've watched that special six times now and laughed my ass off each time. I don't see what people are getting pissed off about. It is what it is I guess.
I think social intelligence is different then intelligence in general. I know some very smart people who take everything literally and are very slow to picking up sarcasm. I'd rather struggle to add 1 + 1 than to struggle understanding a joke tho anytime
Dave has had similar comedy for years lol he hasn't changed since his crackhead dave days; it's the social minority that has changed. We let adults throw a tantrum and gave them what they want now they just expect it.
I think if the special, in the context of being comedy, truly offends you, you probably don't give people the benefit of the doubt when they're genuinely trying to understand both sides of an issue. And that's the kind of thing that divides people even further.
I think Dave is hilarious to people who can make fun of themselves. His new stand up is speaking of things people think but don’t say. His stand up was hilarious.
A joke is basically someone's point if view on a situation.u can hate it,love it,have your own opinion on the situation but at the end of the day that's all it is.one persons point of view.
The problem I have with comedian sometimes is that they want to say controversial stuff and say that they say they have important message behind their act, yet when they get called out on it, they revert back to "oh we are just trying to make people laugh". "I am just a joker, don't take me seriously". I think Chapelle's joke were fine though.
I respect your opinion but I don’t agree with it when it comes to “people should be offended by comedy and how you can’t tell them not to be”. Like why are you getting offended by a joke? Only way a joke can possibly offend you is if you take it too literally . Like if someone says you so fat you have more chins than a Chinese phone book is that really going to offend you if you take it as a joke? Another thing is how no one made an outburst like this during his early days where he made fun of everything under the sun, black people, white people, Asian, Mexican, people in wheelchairs, people with addiction and so on but the moment he talks about the alphabet people it’s a big deal. Censoring comedy because people are becoming more sensitive is a big problem. Comedy is a form of speech but shedding some humor on some of the messed up things in our world. So people should stop being offended and laugh and listen to what he has to say and not just silence people because it doesn’t fit with their agenda.
I won't say something like, 'I don't see what people were offended about" regarding Sticks and Stones. If anyone's seen it, it's obvious what people were offended by; a lot of content creators dodge those topics out of fear for public backlash after all. It's about understanding that these jokes are controversial and finding them funny despite that.
The problem with lgbtq people is that they need constant attention. Like bruh I get it so just chill sheesh. U don’t have to scream in my face with your blue hair 24/7
I think Dave Chappell is a really great comedian, I’ve never felt offended by any of his work because his stand up isn’t any sort of hate speech or going out of his way to be shocking. It’s just his personal opinion about the things that relate to him specifically, we shouldn’t get angry at him for being able to call out all the bs going on in the world and his feelings on it.
Joe and David's support for Chappelle without supporting Shane Gillis proves they aren't real comedians and will never be respected by the comedy community.
@@jesusaleman7360 yes he is funny. He just wasn't funny in that little clip that got him fired. It was a swing and a miss, that's it. It's funny how David said patrice is one of his favourite comics when patrice went way harder on Asians than Shane did.
Great piece David! I remember George Carlin (one of the all-time great comic) predicting shit like this. I believe it was part of his "soft-language" piece. Oh boy, I wish he was still alive, you old fuck!
Dave should come and start performing in Africa, cause we are used to being offended, but still laugh about it!! its what makes us go through these hush times!!
The asian joke by Chapelle was NOT about asian people, per se, he just used the stereotypical chinese accent as a prop for the MAIN punchline... the absurdity of society to force you to acknowledge another person's self perception/delusion, at the expense of what YOU know to be true. I totally agree with that premise. There is no doubt in my mind, that people will soon be able to claim a particular race simply by saying they FEEL Asian inside, or African American inside... utter nonsense.
Well, I recommend Hannah Gadsby's "nannett" ( I hope I spelled the names correctly) so you can see what these critics want. Bring a box of tissue because It was one of the saddest comedy specials that I've ever seen. The first ten minutes was so so, the rest was just sad. To her credit, she said it's her take on standup but Netflix put it in the comedy category when it was clearly a Tedtalk. By the way, it got 100 percent from critics on rotten tomatoes.
NaKa Ji Right, like that so easily shows incompatibility if you can’t understand Dave Chappelles comedy, and just simply hate him for it lol smh. Not everything in life is black and white, but holy shit Dave Chappelle is up there with being the best we got, no one talks about real life shit and has the story telling skills that he has and still manages to make it all hilarious. I cannot be with someone who thinks someone’s better, humour is really important to me and I’m picky, only other favourite of mine is Pete Davidson. I like asshole humour I guess lol
If you really want to break it down it, there is such a thing as being too offended. In grade school they teach kids “your opinion can’t be wrong”. Ironically that’s wrong. Almost any statement can be deconstructed logically and proved right or wrong if so. People think it’s ok to be a jerk just b/c it’s “my opinion” and that’s the problem. But the PC crowd def ain’t ready to hear that.
I love laughing. I don't care who or what the joke is about. As long as I find it funny. When a comedian starts to make unfunny jokes or plays out a bit so much the joke is dead I stop watching. Snl for example. The comedians on the show are funny af but for tgd last 4 years they beat the political jokes to death. To a point where it was so unfunny you started to feel sad for them. But it didn't make me say hey everyone let's cancel Snl for being unfunny. I just stopped watching. Same with Amy Schumer. I think she is unfunny. She Aldo steals jokes and makes them bad. I don't watch her. That's how people should do but instead they watch someone like Dave and cry when they get offended.
I love Chappelle, and his previous 4 stand up specials were absolutely amazing. I just found this one super meh, felt like he was just trying to be offensive, without the high quality jokes. I wasn't offended in any way, but trying to be offensive, to me isn't all that funny.
Everyone is butthurt over Chappelle's last couple specials, but say they loved his show. Guess what ya'll need to go rewatch Chappelle show. He's the same, ya'll are the ones that have changed. He said it best "ya'll clicked on HIS face".
To be completely honest, I was disappointed with Dave chappelles special. I will say I’m a bit biased because I am a gay woman with lots of friends and family who happen to be trans. I agree that sensitive topics should be addressed in comedy! However saying slurs and pushing people in stereotypes is not philosophical; It’s just homophobic. Even besides that, this is was not his best work and it frustrated me that he used such juvenile humor. Idk like I think he 100% was using the shock value in this special. He was using a minority that he is not a part of to make jokes and it makes me feel weird. Then he tries to justify it saying he’s an ally, then saying “fag” It just made me a bit sad :/
It also matters what offended you... Racists, lazy politicians are constantly the butt of his jokes... Liars get so much of his wrath.... If you offend these people the majority of the world laughs along with you. DC is loved by 99% even the best politician is only 51%
Ngl i disagree with "you can't tell anyone how they should feel" thing Some people don't react to things correctly (mostly overreacting) and you should be able to tell them "chill" I used to do that with my younger sister and my parents did that to me... so i didn't turn out like that girl who tried to cancel david
The special was a mixed bag for me. I watched the whole thing, and there were some jokes that cracked me tf up and I couldn't stop laughing, but there were a lot of them that just weren't funny; like, I understood them, but I had a very bland reaction to them. imo I think after watching it, a lot of people who disliked it are disappointed that Dave's set just wasn't as effective this time around.
I wasn't offended by it, but honestly his new special made him sound like an old man. It just wasn't funny like his old stuff. I think it's okay to criticize him. The contrarian shit some comics put out is getting so boring.
I wouldn't say old man but I kinda see what you mean. He is just getting older and has to move with the times, so what do you do? tell the story of now in the most brutally honest way. I believe true comics could tell a story and Dave is the Shakespeare of the art form.
Thats the thing that is your opinion you are entitled to it and people are free to agree or disagree with it that is not the issue the issue is the cancel culture we have today and the loud offended minority
“Remember you clicked on my face “
Dave Chappelle is a hero Standup-Comedian. This is how Stand-up should be. All-People that feel offended just does not Get Stand Up.
Some folks are losing the ability to laugh, mainly laugh at themselves
Dave Chappelle is not cancelled!!! You all can never cancel a genius

People that went into that special KNEW what kind of a comedian Dave is. Just don't watch it. I don't understand these people's logic
Dave has had similar comedy for years lol he hasn't changed since his crackhead dave days; it's the social minority that has changed. We let adults throw a tantrum and gave them what they want now they just expect it.
The only thing we need to be sensitive about is how DC destroyed Batman’s arc in the DCEU.
I loved Dave's special and laughed the entire time. People nowadays are WAYY too sensitive.
I miss the old "The Chappelle Show" on Comedy Central days.
ayabeihere .... sadly sticks and stones proved 2019 couldnt handle the Chappelle Show

The only thing we should be sensitive about is if Lebron still doesn’t win a championship this year, he should be ranked lower than Kobe & Shaq.
