Thank you my friend! You've saved me lots of money and I've gained confidence in the process. Today I swapped air, pollen and fuel filters and a couple of months ago I did the oil and filter. All thanks to you!
Very good video on how to change filter without computer priming software. This is how it's always been done on diesel trucks! And great commentary. :)
I agree. Thanks. If you research, diesel is quite viscous. Since you primed the filter and housing, this little bit of air is not running your pump "dry." It's only a moment, it is still lubricated.
Very good video. I have VCDS, but even after running the first pump through VCDS it didn't start that flawlessly like yours. So your method seems to work out better.
I totally agree with you. Even if you used the software. It's just going to pump that air bubble to the high-pressure pump where it will stay until you start the car unless you are able to activate that pump also.
I finally got myself VCDS, I didn't try it on this car yet, but I used on Skoda, it started as nothing happened, even if I left empty filter before priming. Both ways are good, you don't need to have software just for filter change. Software makes it slightly hassle free.
@@wawayltd I don't think It's about being clever necessarily, it's about making things understandable and that is a very powerful skill and you do it in a language that my guess is not your first so even more impressive. Thanks again man. 👏👏
Is what you mean in this video that it is preferable that the replacement be done at the dealership because of the air pressure that you talked about? We did not understand exactly what was meant
@@wawayltd No worries, done DSG fluid and filter now - for anyone else wondering, basically remove air box and battery box, filter is then easily accessible. Underneath, you need 14mm hex bit to undo gearbox sump plug, then 10mm hex to remove inner spout/level device. Drain it all out, then either buy expensive VW tool to put it back in via underneath, or use Amazon Measuring Funnel to put exactly 4.6 litres in the top. It's slow but works. Filter housing is only a shade over hand-tight and plastic, don't break it!
With the old style vw diesel filters it was pretty much the same, you filled it with diesel (or better still with inyector cleaner) through the circular indent (the one with the black and blue orings).
Very good your videos, it would be desirable some on engine mechanics, for example to failures of the sensor of position of the accelerator G69, not plausible signal, or failures of the caudalimeter

If diesel is up to standard DIN EN 590 - interval is 60'000. Here's info about UK standard: www.dieselnet.com/standards/eu/fuel_automotive.php I just change it every second or third oil service...
I'm not sure how it works with Sharan. In ordinary cars, you just pull the rear seat bench. Sorry, I don't have any documentation on Sharan at the moment.
I have read somewhere, that if air bubbles get into fuel rail/injectors, because of extremely high pressure, they can cause some damage. However, now with the experience, having changed many filters on many cars, I have been in situation, where filter was half empty or even completely empty. I don't think that air gaps will do any damage to fuel system. If they are too big, you may struggle to start the engine till gaps are filled, that's all.
I wonder if after the filter is changed, it would be possible to take the fuse out for the high pressure pump and just cycle the key a few times to run the low pressure pump and re-pressure/top off the canister? Of course that is assuming they are on different fuses.
@@wawayltd Wow , thats a lot of miles, the same engine and transmission ? Scotty Kilmer would be suprised that a non toyoya car made it up to 400.000 miles

Hi any idea where the EPB ECU is on this model? I need to rewire one of my parking brake motors right back to the ecu as the wiring is shot. Many thanks for any help given.
Thank's for the video very good explanation as in your other's videos. I wanted just to ask you, i saw you using a foxwell nt500 unit, can it prime the fuel pump?
WheelsAndMotors Ah too bad that it can't prime it, have a Passat cc from 2013 i did the change with the fuel filter like you explained worked smoothly. But now i have to do the disks and brake pads with epb so i guess i ll try to find a cheap VCDS to open the epb and even with next change of fuel could prime the fuel pump with it i guess just to be sure :D was a bit afraid. Thanks again!
Have you ever had an engine not restart after this procedure. I am thinking of doing my Skoda Octavia 1.6tdci CR which is basically a VW engine but a little nervous of running into problems. Thank you
+Mike Cain If you leave fuel filter empty with recent VW diesel engines, without priming, you're risking of not being able to start the engine, also potential damage to high-pressure pump. The way I've done it in this video, leaves no more bubbles as if you would prime it with VAG-COM. When I replaced fuel filter very first time, I left it half-empty and I was struggling to start the engine, but that was stupid and I don't advise you to do that, because high-pressure pump shouldn't run empty. Ever since I always replace fuel filter the way, as I showed in this video - never had any trouble, engine starts in 1 or 2 seconds :)
There are 2 fuel pumps. One is lower pressure, sitting inside a tank that delivers fuel to the filter. And another is sitting on cambelt - that's high pressure pump, it's after filter and it's making high pressure in fuel rail down to the injectors.
@@wawayltdThanks for the reply. I had a breakdown, when RAC recovered they scanned the car and the computer said it's fuel pump's mechanical fault. They didn't mention which one. Do you know where is the relay for in-tank fuel pump?

Hello. Amazing tutorial! I have few more questions. Why do you think it is necessary to spill the "old" fuel from the filter tank? I don't have the pump... And where do you think the air bubble will disappear or end? Thank you for your response :)
Hi Štefan! I don't think that getting rid of fuel from filter tank is necessary, it's just me - like perfection. My pump broke, so I just use hose and start it with mouth - still works.. I don't know where the bubble goes, it must have it's way. Now I have VCDS (vag com), so I leave filter completely empty, close it and then activate fuel pump with a computer. Where all that air goes, no idea, but it doesn't seem to give any trouble to the engine. This is video about doing it with VCDS: ruclips.net/video/bbxQ63bCbbI/видео.html
@@wawayltd thank You. I hope it will be ok in my case too :) BTW I noticed I couldn't find oil filter in my Sharan. It's 2017 model with CR 135kW. It is probably on a different place... Don't you know where is it placed please?
