Imagine getting to experience "Self Control" for the first time again. WOW
@Aristides Gonzalez unfortunate then

I remember I would hear that guitar riff in my dreams the first couple days after I first heard it. One of my favorite songs period
Why Yeezus My first time listening to self control was my first time crying because of a song 😂

I’m just jealous that this guy is getting to hear blonde for the first time.
i will give myself memory loss and amnesia to just re listen to it
Damn when I heard this album and heard the lyrics I cried not gonna lie
i heard it for the first time live.... it was amazing
I haven’t listened to it yet. I’m going to listen to it Rn
so am i i feel privileged
i would kill to have blonde erased from my brain so i can listen to it for the first time again. greatest album of all time.
frio when you get older, and your memory fades, I pray you have a copy of this album to guide you through them days....
No need to kill.... just keep living. We all on a path.
Brndn Pzs im planning on dying to the nights beat switch
frio idk about greatest album of all time but it is a masterpiece
okay same
When a mans feeling on Ivy, you know he gone through some shit hahahah
True
bahahahahaha
True shit lmao cuz i felt that too
True... it was the first song on the album that hit me different
cryin
you made it through blond and only teared up 4 times, that's pretty impressive
Lmao
I need some time stamps 😭
Theo O'Flynn he’s a tough guy

BUCKLE UP
Self control coming in like a freight train!
I don't think he was prepared even after he said it haha
White Ferrari is one of the greatest songs ever created
Gilbert *Seigfried
Gilbert both
The Whole Album*
Nights (and Pyramids) too
So incredible that you can say this about almost all the songs
For the heartbreakers and the heartbroken, BLONDE will forever be a classic album that will be talked about for centuries.
Oprah Winfrey Sorry to break it to you but humans aint gonna be around in centuries
Maximilian yes every human is gonna jump off the flat earth🤷♀️
Anshal Koirala The Earth isn’t flat but in “a few centuries” Earth won’t be inhabitable at all so
Since were talking about things other than the album. Listen to my shitty SoundCloud raps.
soundcloud.com/senorsuplex
@@jonnycool123 I respect this
Fun fact, the beat switch on Nights occurs exactly halfway through the album’s run time
And it signals a tonal and lyrical shift between the first and second halves of the album
also goes with the binary theme of the album. the binary between his sexuality, and his masculinity/femininity. there's also the masculine and feminine spellings of Blonde. It says Blonde on digital versions, but Blond on the cover
Patrick Denvir that switch is timeless 🙌🏼
That’s very creative 👏🏾
It is halfway, but any other theory is a complete reach. There is absolutely no tonal and lyrical shift at all between halves. Each half has a mixture of tones and themes with no one single theme portraying the half.
WESLEY REACTS the whole album is about the duality between adolescence and adulthood, summer and autumn, traditional and experimental. The two halves of the album reflect this.
Duality is all over the album, e.g. beat switches, high vs low voice, Blond/Blonde (masculine vs feminine), and lyrically as well.
Jon taking a break to talk about how he wanted a track to hit him as Nikes and Ivy did right before Self Control was about to hit had me like 😈
Andrew Donnelly lmao my thoughts exactly
Said something like this out loud before Self Control came on lmao
I’m like “Well somehow pink + white didn’t hit with you but self control should”
TheRealMrMackey I love pink + white now but the first few times I listened to Blonde I didn’t understand that song at all, like, lyrically. I don’t blame him for that
@@mchlfx it's my favourite track on the album. And years later I still don't understand it.
Most of this album, especially like Siegfried sound a bit weird but then one day it will just hit you differently.
I'm glad ur not all fake deep pretending to understand the whole album.
so fuckin true seigfried became my favorite song after time lmfao
Seigfried fucking drop kicked me
Uzi M Same effect. Shit made me tear up
I used to skip seigfried, gave it another chance, and now Its one of my favourites if not my favourite. Genuinely incredible
why tf is this true
That self-control slapped him 😂
13:51 he jinxed himself
Slapped all of us :,(
One of the best albums of this century. Only the best albums can you listen to hundreds of times yet hear and discover different elements each time
jonny nosnew no it’s not
Yea century might be pushing it..You could make a case for decade but it's all subjective.
@@LoganB113 there's been less than two decades this century so I don't think they're pushing it, plus he said ONE, but yeah it's all subjective

@@TheKrankgamer great album.
Well guess which album was voted number one album of the decade
You know its a good album when a DG fan says its one of the best of the decade
This video is a perfect example of why people vibe with you & Simon. You guys are just genuine people and your transparency/honesty is a huge reason why Rock Reacts is so successful now.
Great video, thanks for letting me relive the first time I listened to one of my favorite albums ever.
For Emma, Forever Ago - Bon Iver | If you like the feel of a very introspective album, this will tear you apart.
Beautiful album
Yesssss
one of the best
Oh man that would be killer if he did a review
Mhm, also pretty tight with the Hip Hop community in general seeing how closely Justin vernon works with Kanye for example.
Maybe the best reaction video I've ever seen. It's like listening to the album for the first time again.
My exact thoughts. His facial expressions were spot on; it was almost as though I was watching myself listen for the first time with the tears and all.
Well said!
Kanye actually has a writing credit and background vocals on White Ferrari
James Lamp III * one background vocal haha „love“
inverted mind he also does some of the background shouting early on in the track
At the 22:54 mark in this video
Blonde is easily, the single most impactful piece of art I’ve ever experienced in my short 18 years of life, but damn it never gets old.
our boy tearing up in the first ten minutes oh boy here we go
I’ll never forget the first time I heard the last minute of White Ferrari, hits very hard
Bruce Wayne the Celtics need to come together and listen to this album
Alex Mija they should try anything at this point with how they’re playing lmao
I can tell how hard most of this album hit you Jon, just wanna say that we all appreciate you!
This album is like heart break medicine. Soul cleansing. So ahead of its time. Perhaps too complex for some to even understand, it will run right past those who aren’t ready for it. But it is clearly the best album of our generation , and will go down as one of the greatest pieces of music of all time. Its been three years almost and i still listen to it everyday, and still blown away every time i hear it. Every sound is perfect. It is a flawless album. I could talk about it for hours. A true gem, we are blessed to live in the frank ocean generation.
"Soul cleansing" that shit stuck with me, i love blonde thanks for your message👍🏻
I could talk about it for hours and hours
Calm down that’s too far it’s not one of the greatest music pieces ever written
Good album but not the best of this generation
This is so true like I tried listening to it once and didn’t get through Nikes and then like a year later did it and it was the best thing that ever happened to me point blank period
"I'll do anything for you..... in the dark." This repetition hits me in my SOUL everytime. The honesty, euphoria, vulnerability and shame all wrapped in that line is jaw-dropping.
I could write a fucking dissertation on this album.

This is an album you'll find yourself revisiting over and over again, each time with a new appreciation for it. It's hauntingly beautiful.
No one talks about how amazing Siegfried is :( my favourite track off Blonde
Absolutely 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
"I can't relate to my peers, I'd rather live outside, I'd rather chip my pride than lose my mind out here" frank's lyrics hit me in the soul
Haven't even finished it but I know JD the Prophet is about to give me some open-minded commentary on the mesmerizing blonde boy
Jonny greenwood had production on the album
Frank is a huge radiohead fan
. He did the strings on Siegfried. You can definitely hear Radiohead on this album maaan, and that’s just too dope
I WISH I could hear this album for the first time again. I remember that Self Control & Good Guy hit me so hard. There is something so vulnerable about those tracks. The way he sings in Good Guy feels like he's so disappointed and defeated. "You text nothing like you look" feels so strangely accurate.
One of my top 3 albums of all time. It’s absolutely perfect!

Actually “They looking for a check” is a TRIPLE entendre:
1. Nike logo

3. Sign of approval or an OK (like from materialistic friends)
I get chills every time i listen to this album all the way through. Everyone should give it a listen from start to end at least once. Frank Ocean is for sure my favorite artist.
that involuntary "awhhahh" during the ending of Self Control is the best way to describe this album as a whole
As someone who has listened to this album 100+ times I find enjoyment seeing people’s first listen thru it brings me back to my first time
I've watched like 10 different reaction videos of this album and yours is easily the best. Not because of the fact that you cried a few times but because you're the only one listening to this album properly. Everyone else is either just jamming to the instrumentals and ignoring the lyrics or they're overanalyzing the lyrics and messages too much and not processing the rest of the music. The best way to fully experience this album is to listen to it the way you did. I also hope you listened to it more than once because this album grows with each listen. Possibly more than any album I've ever heard.
This album came out 2 months after my daughter was born, its been 4 years and I still put her to sleep to this album and the music just relaxes her. This record will always be special to her and I.
The experimental half of this album grows on you an extreme amount after multiple listens. White Ferrari is my favorite track on the album, it just melds the experimental style with the smoothness of the first half so gently and beautifully. The outro on that song sounds so inspired by Bon Iver. This album is incredible and a pinnacle of experimental music, impossible to define with a single genre.
End of godspeed be hitting me like a train😪
i don’t remember her name, but the gospel singer really strikes a chord, i’m not really all that religious, but i feel like i’m floating into another realm
m Kim Burrell. Her vocals have always been sick
Thanks Jon this is my favorite album ever and I like hearing your opinions
Do to pimp a butterfly next! Best rap album of this generation
I think you should watch Frank's Good Guy performance live at panorama NYC, easily one of the most powerful live performances there has, and will ever be

You can't compare Blond to Rodeo , Both are way different vibes and way different genres.

Fun fact: Jonny Greenwood, lead guitarist of Radiohead and Oscar nominated composer worked on the album and among other things did the string section on Seigfried.
Was just reminded of that when you talked about the Radiohead influence:)
The great thing about this album is the more times you go back to it the more you will love it

Seigfried just hits me every time
"i've been dreaming of you.. dreaming of you!" something about those lyrics at the end, reminiscing of young love is so heartbreaking :'(
one of my greatest moments in life was seeing frank perform the whole blonde album live. it was my first time ever hearing him, and every single fucking song i was in tears, amazed as to how someone could write to beautifully and sing so beautifully, his voice live sounds like it's autotuned because it's so perfect. and i never stopped listening to blonde since. ahhhhhhh

Wish I could listen to this masterpiece for the first time again ;(. What a crazy experience it is. Can’t believe you waited this long JD!!
It’s crazy that I’ve watched this video probably 5 times in the past year. Never disappoints.
I love watching first reactions to my fav albums again cuz it brings the joy of hearing it for the first time again.
For me, it wasn’t Self-Control that hit me in this album, it was Seigfried. It was the first song in this album that I heard actually. Something about him saying “One solar flare we’re consumed so why not, spend this flammable paper on the film that’s my life, high flights, inhale the vapour and think twice, eat some shrooms, maybe have a good cry, about you. See some colours, light hang glide off the moon, in the dark.” Was nearly in tears once the song ended
When he said it I didn't contemplate it but seeing it as words on a page, it really is poetry.
The fact that White Ferrari reminded u of the movie Drive is crazy. I always thought the same, and that soundtrack always brings about the same vibes. I FEEL YOU JOHN
This album has got to be one of the best i have ever heard in my life
Such a beautiful and wonderful work of art. One of the few albums I can listen to every day of the week.
Great video bro!! I’ve been listening to blonde since it first came out and it still hasn’t got old on me yet and I still get chills
I MADE IT!
Awesome video Jon. This is one of those albums I wish I could go back and hear for the first time again, beautiful and brave the whole way through. I think this setup works really well for the more experimental albums like this, Some Rap Songs, Atrocity Exhibition, Avantdale Bowling Club, etc. It's cool you get to soak it all in. I hope more like this to come, and you find more music you love :)
Jesus, I love Frank so much. Been listening to him for years and years and his music never loses it's glimmer. Makes me tear up and is so incredibly nostalgic for me. Found him when I was in high school, and brings me back to that time and those feelings every time I listen to him. There is something so special about him that will always strike a chord with me.
It’s crazy, a comment as simple as yours gets all the right words and makes me feel exactly what I used to feel when I heard it for the first couple of times. The nostalgia, memories, feeling of that deep first love feeling. No matter how many years ago it was, everytime I hear this album, I’m reminded of the simpler times when blond consumed my emotions. We still all have core memories about this album and how it makes us reminisce
I watch this video like every two months and idek why just a brilliant video to watch someone discovering his music for the first time
Watching your reaction to this for the first time makes me wish I could listen to this for the first time all over again. Tears and chills 😭
