It’s amazing how sometimes we just aren’t ready for certain lyrics, tunes or pieces of art until we have lived through various experiences, met different people, felt joys and pains, failed and bled, returned and grew. As a kid I heard this song a lot on the radio and cast it away as irrelevant. How wrong I was. This version particularly pierces into my soul. Cheers REM. Thank you.

This is one of those songs that keep my connection alive with my delicate memories and youth energy. Whenever I feel lost, they bring me to a peaceful state of mind, so I can forget about everything for a couple of minutes.
All the crap we hear these days are too artificial and devoid of soul. I guess this was the cyberpunk we "dreamed" of. We're finally living in it...

Ha! . I loved early early REM and then not so much the middle period but anyway many years later have come to the opinion that they stand up on iron legs and that they represent the best of post Band [ The Band } Americana. Along with David Byrne, Stipe is the most under rated musical intelligence of his generation.

Written by a person who went to a Catholic school for eight years.
I hope it helped those shy kids in the corner. Those who believed until life became real. About growing up beyond what religion and school can teach.
    Peace to all!!
