    And you also forget to mentino Mercer vs Kimbo (Kimbo not only beat him on the ground, but standing up as well), Mercer vs Musashi, and Mercer vs Bonjaski where he verbally submitted after a head kick very early in the fight, and the only strike that was thrown in the fight if I remember correctly.
    Sylvia is and always has been garbage, and he was stupid enough to just stand in front of Ray Mercer and not use any of his tools. The reach advantage was huge, and he just let Ray set him up.

    @TheDomy23, hmm it seems I missed some point in your previous posts. As for Jones and Bader, you do realise that they are wrestlers, right? Jones is a junior college national champion in greco roman wrestling. He could have gone olympic if he would have wanted to make the sacrifice (in time/training) for it. Bader is another good wrestler. Jones also has an amazing athletic ability and is a quick and hungry learner. As far as mastering goes,it depends on what you mean. You can always get better.

    I disagree radiant for the simple fact that any good fighter knows how to deflect punches to the point of making them ineffective. Once you realize that you're fighting with a strong puncher or someone with good hand speed that may even be better than yours, then you must take that person out of his element by taking them to the ground. Once on the ground if that person is a good ground fighter then it becomes a chess match the same goes for kickers.

    Holm a boxer knocking out what's her name again o yh ronda rousey brutal boxing skills from holm

    • @jawkneeG
      @jawkneeG 8 лет назад +6

      +Nathan Lee Holy Holm isn't "a boxer" anymore. She knocked Rousey out with a head kick. You can't head kick in boxing. She's an MMA fighter with her strengths in Boxing. Just like Rousey is an MMA fighter with her strengths in Judo.

    • @lusterbustuh452
      @lusterbustuh452 8 лет назад

      +@1337johnnyG That head kick was only the finishing move. Holms dominated ronda with her boxing

    • @Robin-kp1nv
      @Robin-kp1nv 8 лет назад +6

      +Luster Bustuh I guess they also teach takedown defense in boxing. GTFO. She's a MMA fighter now. If she had no takedown defense she would've been done with. If you rewatch the fight you'll see that Ronda caught her and was about to take her down and tried to get an armbar in. It didn't work. Why? Cuz Holly is a MMA fighter now.
      Her boxing skills helped 4 sure. Her footwork was Boxing 101 which rarely is seen in MMA. Holly was the matador and Ronda was the bull.
      But ultimately it was her other skills that also played a role in her win. The ''oblique kicks'' that slowed Ronda down. The kick that finished Ronda. The takedown defense that prevented an armbar. A boxer coming straight from boxing wouldn't be able to defend those takedowns and u just can't say ''Oh he/she would just get in a nice left hook and KO her ass''

    • @jawkneeG
      @jawkneeG 8 лет назад

      Luster Bustuh You're missing the point. You can't call Holm "a boxer who beat Ronda with boxing". This isn't a boxing match and Holm has developed way more fighting skills other than boxing AND uses those other skills MANY times through out her *MMA* fights.
      Calling Holm just "a boxer" is actually an insult because it's basically suggesting that despite all her hours of MMA practice, she has no other recognizable fighting skills other than boxing. You're basically calling her 1 dimensional. Holm's strength is in boxing for sure but give her some fuckin cedit for becoming a beast with other fighting techniques. She on numerous occasions defended an Olympic medalist from tossing her with a vicious judo throw... they don't teach you how to do that in boxing - that's taught in MMA.
      I'm a strong believer that most pro Boxers wouldn't stand a chance in a pro MMA fight and most pro MMA fighters wouldn't stand a chance in a pro boxing fight. Boxers would have no wrestling, jiu jitsu, muay thai / kickboxing (etc) knowledge so they would get completely murked by a thousand+ different possible attacks. And conversely, MMA fighters divide so much of their time into multiple different fields of fighting, that they would almost never be able to compete with a specialist who dedicates 100% of their time just to Boxing.
      So if you think Holm is just a boxer who only uses boxing then you're completely delusional because she couldn't of possibly won this fight with only Boxing skills. Holm is a well-rounded beast, give her some credit for expanding her skill set.

    @LuqmanNaq THe thing people dont understand about some systems in kung fu. If I went and studied boxing and BJJ for 3 years, i probably would have a much better benefit than if i studied kung fu for 3 years. Kung fu is not as practical because it takes too much time to get decent at it. Just the training on your hands takes about a decade and that is no exaggeration. People study artful kungfu styles that look great for a few years, and claim to be kung fu masters.

  • @Guinea54
    @Guinea54 14 лет назад

    @whatevamang EXACTLY! Wow there is someone with a fucking brain out there. amazing. I couldn't agree with you more. I am no fighting expert by any means, but when I was young I studied in kung fu. And ALOT of the shit they were teaching would not be allowed in MMA. We did a lot of stuff on how to finish fights quickly for self defense or how to get an attack off of you by throat strikes eye strikes ear strikes. temple strikes. etc.

  • @Guinea54
    @Guinea54 14 лет назад

    @achillesbeast I think its more classless for one. I find the majority of matches are like totally dead locked on the ground. In other words many of the fights are like watching mud wrestling. Its just not as intriguing to watch.. Its more of a gimmick to satisfy the sadistic nature of people under the guise of the term "mixed martial arts" Another reason is because people underestimate some traditional fighting systems because of the MMA marketing.

  • @BigboyDownStairs
    @BigboyDownStairs 14 лет назад

    @SJFTV I know your older but you sound like all the other 14 year olds in this country who were too young to be there for the great moments in boxing. Yes boxers only learn one aspect of fighting but they learn it too an extremely high level whereas mma fighters learn every style to a satisfactory standard. If mma fighters competed in boxing or in muay thai or ji jitsu tournaments they would get killed! By the way have you ever seen an amatuer mma fight? Its the sloppiest shit you would ever see

  • @ItachiYGO
    @ItachiYGO 14 лет назад

    MMA doesn't limit anything a boxer does. Toney could still use everything he had from his boxing skills in there. on the other hand, the boxing rules puts loads of limitations on people, to force a systematic fight that always happens the way they want. this is as close to a real life fight situation you'll get. if they fought for real its clear that Coulture would easily win. if limited by boxing rules, Toney would win obviously.

  • @Guinea54
    @Guinea54 14 лет назад

    @LuqmanNaq Just cause some idiots say they know kung fu doesnt mean anything. most of the people who studied it for decades don't compete in these type of events, they only compete within their own tournaments. and the strikes in kung fu are throat strikes, eye strikes and strikes that deal with an attacker on the street, not a full contact sport.

    Trust me. Thoose body shots from top position hurts like hell. U got to constantly keep moving and try to keep the wrestler busy and try to make him not to hit you. Then get up(if u are a striker) and try to look for the knock out. Florian did not manage this and Maynard was the better fighter. Respect!

  • @Suuulan

    The wrestlers was the stronger ones last night, yes. But who knows what will be the out come if maynard is matched against Penn, or Edgar is matched up against Maynard. @BentHenny If u were Chael Sonnen would u have choosed to stand up with Anderson Silva? Or if u was Brock Lesnar, would u like to stand up with Shane Carwin? U need to work where ur best aspect of fighting is. For Maynard it is on the ground and i love to see when a fighter does what he does best.

  • @Suuulan
    @Suuulan 14 лет назад

    GREAT CARD. Florian got his ass kicked, Edgar showed who's the man, slugfest between Diaz and Davis, and one of my favourite Lauzon showed himself in better shape than ever. Only fight i did not like was Miranda vs Maia, Maia was close to submit him though. And Toney got his ass kicked :D

  • @Tommy9834
    @Tommy9834 14 лет назад +1

    @osbornehunter Fighting under boxing rules don't prove anything. In boxing, the boxer can use his main weapon, the MMA fighter can't. In MMA, the boxer can use his best weapon and so can the MMA fighter. MMA fight is an even playing field, the boxing ring isn't, so why should an MMA fighter go to the boxing ring? If anything needs to be proven, it has to be proved in an MMA fight.

    @Guinea54 'There hasn't been any real kung fu masters involved.' that's the 'no true scotsman' argument I was talking about. It's great that you're humble enough to admit they aren't invincible - you'd be suprised how many people have that belief about kung fu/internal martial arts masters. I'm going to study some Yi Quan myself, and I've studied breifly with some internal martial arts teachers who could fight well, but they would tell people learning this stuff doesn't make you invincible.

  • @LuqmanNaq
    @LuqmanNaq 14 лет назад

    @Guinea54 the 'no true scotsman' argument. Kung fu guys had the opportunity to dominate when there were minimal rules in the early days of vale tudo and the UFC - they didn't. If your kung fu is about street fighting then ok.. but I'd personally rather have a functional skill set that i can practice agaisnt a resisting opponent, over one that I can't (throat strikes, etc) they may be effective but I trust what I've practiced. Check out the video 'words of wisdom pt1' to understand.

  • @sarcasm-83

    @bcibibcibcpCB They've probably been saying it for 15 years because it has grown during those 15 years. And you claimed that europe doesn't know anything about mma. Well, I live in Finland and often watch MMA videos from my TV. Sure, we don't have MMA events here (that I've heard of?) but the boxing scene isn't really visible or huge either.
    And don't be so surprised if a "stupid internet loser" attacks you for your un-educated disrespectful claims about a sport that the video is about.

  • @sarcasm-83
    @sarcasm-83 14 лет назад

    @AdmiralBirdseye Yeah, I DID have a thought in my head that "hmm.. what if? Maybe his punches ARE so damn powerful that he could actually win?"
    I hoped for Couture's win and expected it... Kinda disappointing though that we didn't get to see any stand-up action as it would've been kinda interesting to see, even though I got what I hoped for. (Toney The Trashtalker going down like a total amateur.)

  • @LuqmanNaq
    @LuqmanNaq 14 лет назад

    @whatevamang American or unified rules do favour wrestlers... Pride FC rules were more balanced. You could kick, stomp and knee a grounded opponent. So if a competitor sprawled on a takedown they could follow up with a leg strike, in unfied rules it's illegal if they have a knee on the ground. Check out some pride fc fights to see what I'm talking about.

  • @GuildWarsMaude

    All the hardcore boxing fans going into this fight were all saying James Toney is going to KO Randy Couture. Now that Toney lost - all the hardcore boxing fans are throwing Toney under the bus saying "he's old" or "he's past his prime" and that someone like Mayweather would be able to win. Guess what - MMA is the superior fighting sport. Stop making excuses and get over it.

    @BentHenny He was to busy punching him in the face and making him tap out in the first round. something no boxer was able to do.

    This is where you are wrong. Because the boxer would knock out the mixed martial artist out first second of the fight!

    What's the point? The majority of the MMA community knew the result would be as it was, but Toney (like most boxing meatheads) had to have the point proved to him. We know that in the inverse Randy wouldn't be successful.
    A mixed martial artist is more likely to be competitive in boxing than he is successful. Boxers train a refined set of skills that MMA fighters don't and can't for their particular situation, just as boxers don't train grappling or other striking methods.

    I'm watching a fight right now where the UFC fighter with superior boxing skills is killing the UFC fighter without. In fact the UFC fighter using boxing skills has just knocked out the UFC fighter who is using kicks & take downs. When he switched from kicks and take down attempts to boxing he began dominating. This is what would happen if a boxer trained a year to defend against take downs and kicks, the boxer would dominate & knockouts would be common!

    @dromezz Punching is two dumbasses swinging. Boxing is two technical athletes testing their skills. Its like bjj, its sooooo technical. If you thought that you could go into a boxing ring and 'just swing' then you would get out classed by a decent boxer. You would get countered after every swing and they would just take advantage of every single mistake and opening you make for them.

    @TheDomy23, you learn the basics in mma? The fighters are continously evolving in each area and are doing more advanced stuff all the time and are trying to master as much as they can. And what is mastering one of them for you? There are guys who are world champions in bjj competing in mma. Olympic wrestlers who compete in mma. Top kickboxers who compete in mma. There are a lot of guys who have great stand up and are bjj black belts. But they only know the basics despite being bjj black belts?

    @TheDomy23 i def think its harder to be a mma fighter for the fact that you have to know more you cannot go into a fight just knowing one aspect of fighting plus wrestling is a hell of alot harder then boxing would ever be but i also think that the days of big name boxers who people would want to see fight are over after mayweather and pacman retire mma still has a ways to go but they should def make more then 250k thats a joke

    @achillesbeast I love boxing, but what I dislike is how majorly fucked up boxers end up in comparison to MMA fighters, you would think MMA would cause a lot more brain damage, but a boxers glory is short lived with all these problems - I look at guys like Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell and see that the sport seems to have a much lesser negative effect compared to Boxing, and you're right about the bullshit in boxing events, they need to sort that shit out.

    i don't even see why people compare boxing to mma. it's pointless to argue which is better because the only thing they have in common is a ring and a canvas mat. the rules of combat sports determine everything and since mma is mostly wrestling a boxer won't do well. Neither would a wrestler do well in a boxing match. it's like forcing an nfl athlete to play soccer. apples and oranges.

    @Guinea54 That' my biggest issue I have with MMA. It ends up being a wrestling match and not much else. boring. they should limit the amount of time on the ground or give scores for take-downs but break it up the same way they pull apart locked up boxers. the whole sport would change and it wouldn't be wrestler dominated anymore. the rules don't allow fighters real ways to get out of grapples. This is why so few effective martial arts are represented in mma.

  • @achillesbeast

    I respect both sports, and my preference is boxing (since I am a boxer) but from me, there is no disrespect to the talent and fighting abilities of mma fighters.
    the UFC is growing tremendously and I would be an ignorant fool to say that boxing beats UFC in events. No it doesn't. Boxing needs to get all this bullshit politics and economics outa there and make great fights for the fans. Thats what the UFC does and thats why it has been so successfull.

    @timmyxdl Dude a ufc even makes about 15-25million from what I've read In Floyds last fights ,Oscar, Hatton, JMM, and Mosley he made more than that each fight. Plus common sense is that floyd will loose to someone like sean sherk or any other 155er that will wrestle or use BJJ so yeah man he would need to get paid so much to willingly take a fight he knows he will loose. PLus 500k for James Toney cmon now lol Floyd has cars worth more than that.

    @BigboyDownStairs I hear what ur saying. You been to an amateur boxing match? I have - talk about sloppy. I have seen some girls throw better than some guys. I was once one of them. Fought as an amateur boxer, golden gloves and a few pro fights. I hold three black belts in three disciplines. I have been in scraps under the rules of sanctioned fights and in the streets where there are none....you name it. You too are missing the point (and I understand). Boxing is so one dimensional.

    @MajestyQuickness Eliminate or limit the ground game? That sounds very much like K-1 with a twist. As others have said, it's boxing fans and clueless people who think the ground game is boring. Sometimes it can be, but the same goes for every sport.. it's never going to be 100% action packed. Sometimes, it can be fucking amaxing though. BJJ is my favourite aspect of MMA, no doubt!
    More excitement = more money for fighters? Umm no. More wins/dominance = more money.

    @comedicstuff You really think business is as simple as 'I'm not getting paid enough so me and a few of my buddies are going to start a business just like this one and it will be successful and become the best one in the nwhole entire world'. No, it's not. Affliction couldn't manage it with a good stable of fighters including Fedor, so Couture and Liddell sure as hell won't either. Plus., Liddel is friends with Dana and has been since before the UFC takeover."Cos MMA fighters are stupid" pft.
