Storm Damaged Railroad Crossings In Sacramento County Feb 4th & 5th, 2024

- A look at post storm damages to railroad crossings on the SACRT Gold Line & UP Placerville Branch in Rancho Cordova, California eastern Sacramento County between Birkmont Drive and Bradshaw Road. SACRT had already cleaned up most damages and took broken gates off of signals this time quicker than last year Jan 2023 storm as last year I was able to film more damages before cleanup but this time they cleaned up really fast so it wasn't much to film but removed gates that broke and a few broken lights.
A bomb cyclone brought 60mph to 70mph wind gust sustained at 35mph to 40mph to Northern California which knocked down several trees, snapped several power poles I filmed a couple, and also damaged many railroad crossings gates and lights throughout the region. The whole light rail system lost power and was suspended but as of this video being published as back running on most the system. 2 years in a row we had an 65mph - 70mph wind and rain storm which isn't our typical winds in the Sacramento area as 2 years in a row we had strong weather systems move in each winter. Our typical winds with these are 45mph to 55mph wind gusts with these storms. Although, this year only had a few windy rain events, last year we had several lasting the whole Jan 2023 while Jan 2024 had a couple and Feb 2024 so far had this strong one.

Here in Melbourne Australia level crossings are disappearing, they are either being put over the road or under the road, it's safer and more traffic flow.
That was a terrible storm! It did a ton of ridiculous damage in many areas! Hope everybody is alright and if their surrounding area too! Sucks that it did some damage to crossings on the SACRT as well!

Poor crossing guard lights and sticks became no match for the atmospheric storm of 2024. Hopefully the gold line trains are up and running first thing in the morning tomorrow

Thats alot of damage, what about the crossings along the Blue line? Did the signals get damged over there and the UPRR signals too?
Yes. Crossings along the Blue Line and on UP were damaged.

How a storm cause that much damage
All these crossings are malfunctioning because they are digging their gates and can the turned off if they don’t have then and I bore they can inspect and repair the crossings bc that seemed like a terrible storm
