Railroad Crossing Near Signalized Intersections

This railroad crossing compilation video is about Railroad Crossings that are near signalized traffic intersections where the traffic signals and railroad crossing signals have to be interconnected. Some of these has a preemption where the light will turn green at least 10 seconds before activation to clear traffic off tracks and some of these turn green at activation to clear tracks. Some crossings also have double traffic signals ahead of an intersection at the railroad crossing one for just track clearance and one for traffic.

Cool! I’ve always liked these crossings that are near signalized intersections, as it’s pretty cool to see how each of those intersections are set up for being near a railroad crossing, plus their preemption cycle.

In San Antonio, Texas, as well as in New Albany, Indiana, the traffic signals will all go to Red and start flashing when a train approaches and a few seconds later (maybe a minute later) the traffic signal will return to normal for traffic flow.

Some signals at railroad crossings give a Track Clearance Phase so the traffic signal can get traffic away from the crossing then after that, the traffic signals cycle over to All-Red Flash.
