He was not a member of Toto. Members of Toto were basically some of the best session players in the biz. They played on Boz’s albums. Jojo, Breakdown Dead Ahead, It’s Over, Harbor Lights, Georgia and many more. His album Silk Degrees is perfection.
This was, in my opinion, one of the most successful artists to merge rock, pop, jazzy blues, and easy-listening styles. Most can't pull it off. This album is a MUST for collectors who like classic collections! I LOVE when you guys take me back to my teens and early 20s!!
The album "Silk Degrees" is flawless. "Lowdown" is a great song, but so is "What Can I Say" and "Georgia" are also fire! Then the two ballads on this album that are memorable also.
Oh gosh. Every time we see Boz in concert, the whole crowd goes wild when he sings this. Well…all his songs really. And yes. Every song on Silk Degrees is stellar!
The groove you were enjoying was one variant of the beat that's called a "shuffle". It's based around eighth note triplets, where the middle note of each triplet group is omitted. In this case Jeff Pocaro (later drummer for Toto) is playing the shuffle pattern on the bass drum. There are shuffle variants where the shuffle pattern is played on the high-hat, ride or snare drum. You hear it a lot in blues, R&B and soul but you also hear shuffles in pop and rock.
Boz was fantastic in the 70's and Silk Degrees spent 115 weeks on Billboards Top 100. The band members on the album were almost all the founding members of Toto, and if you look at them individually you will find that they were part of that great group of studio musicians that played on quite a list of albums for the biggest names back then. Quite a few played with Steely Dan, Boz played with Steve Miller and Duane Alman of the Alman Brothers. It's like going down a Rabbit hole looking through the musicians that played with Steely Dan as well. Steve Lukather of Toto once commented that during the 70's he might sit in on 25 sessions a week.
He was a member of the Steve Miller Band. He and Steve were in High School in Dallas together. Steve was in San Francisco and asked Boz join him there. Boz was on his first two albums and decided to go on his own .
Some members of Toto were studio musicians on this album, as well as cowrote this song as well as others on this album. They also played with Steely Dan before they formed Toto. They still played some studio work even after they formed Toto.
Boz is a native of Ohio but he grew up in Dallas, Texas (Plano, TX specifically) Steve Miller also grew up in Dallas taught Boz how to play guitar. He was even a member of the Steve Miller band from 1967 to 1968. His other more popular big hit you should react to is "Lowdown"
Boz was in another great band - Steve Miller Band. You should check them out, start with the Joker or Abracadabra & you’ll see how get they are. Deep rabbit hole. Try Lowdown by Boz banger
5:35-2nd verse lyrics-" Lido run around havin great big fun till he got the note/ saying "toe the line or blow it" and that was all she wrote/He be makin like a beeline, heading for the border line, goin' for broke/ He say, "One last shot, oughtta git it-A quick stop instead, nothin' to it..One more for the raod" ( I played this song with my band back in 2010, bought down the club every time!) Great stuff from The soulful mind of Boz.
While not a member of Toto he is credited for helping the formation of Toto. “For his 1976 album, Silk Degrees, he hand-picked musicians after taking suggestions from several people. These musicians were David Paich, David Hungate, and Jeff Porcaro. The three were already friends and had frequently performed together on other albums, such as Steely Dan's Pretzel Logic. By going on tour with Scaggs, it solidified the prospect of starting a band. Columbia picked up on this talent by offering the new group a contract "without audition". Steve Porcaro described this as "a record deal thrown in our laps". Paich stated, "I'm not sure if Toto would have happened as soon, or quite the same way, without Silk Degrees". Their friendship has continued throughout the decades, shown by the varying collaborations and concerts performed together. Paich teamed up once more for Scaggs' 2001 album, Dig, contributing to 6 out of the 11 songs.
Toto was comprised of several session musicians who Boz brought in to play on his album. As session players, they played what Biz wrote the way he wanted it to sound. The chemistry among them was so good that Bob helped them become Toto
Lido was a gambler, yall. Check the lyrics. It'll all make sense ... Also, Boz played with The Steve Miller Blues Band, before they were just The Steve Miler Band.
I’ve been a fan since the 80’s and had no idea about his Toto connection before. Now that I know you can definitely hear the Toto influence. Try “Love, Look What You’ve Done to Me”.
Good job Joseph. Now they have Boz Scaggs in their repertoire of discovery. This was smart music you "could" dance to during the dumb down era of disco. Excellent production when production would make all the difference with the massive amounts of releases of the time. Boz was out front.
Groove courtesy of the late GREAT Jeff Porcaro on drums. Several members of the band that would become Toto (including Jeff) were in Boz Scaggs' backup band.
He really was a great drummer. I heard a story once that he was going in to work with somebody he hadn't worked with before to do some session drumming work and they said let me play you something so you know what we are looking for in terms of the drumming style and sound, and then they played back something that he was the drummer on, laugh.
@@stevedahlberg8680 Not surprising. I believe that had he not died at 38, Jeff Porcaro would have passed Hal Blaine as the most recorded drummer in history.
I have billions of favorite songs from the 70s it seems, but this is definitely up there. For another rambunctious one that was a huge party hit, check out Billy Joel from The Stranger album, which is an iconic album unto itself, Only the Good Die Young. It's a total banger in every way, and wow, that bass guitar in there, wow.
This is one of those songs that I never get tired of even though I've heard it a ton of times and put it on almost every compilation I make. He has several hits but this one has always been my favorite by him. You guys have so many more artists and groups to get to.
Boz Skaggs is sneaky-good. A number of hits, but somehow still underrated. Give them all a listen. I'd put him in the same league / group as Steely Dan, or living in a space between Toto and Steely Dan. As for hits, there's "Jojo," which in theme is like "Lido Shuffle." "Lowdown" is tremendous, "Breakdown Dead Ahead," and for ballads he has "Look What You've Done to Me" and "We're All Alone." "What Can I Say" is from the disco era, but more soulful.
To truly understand and appreciate Boz You would have to go back to the beginning In the Steve Miller Band But Boz’s finest of musical endeavors Was definitely “Loan Me A Dime” Off his first solo album Recorded At Muscle Shoals With Duane Allman on Guitar Duane Allman was a studio musician at Fame Recording Studio in Muscle Shoals This epic timeless Blues Rock Classic Is infused with Duane Allman’s Incredible slide guitar This is by far and away My number one desert island song! Please check out “ Loan me A Dime”
He wasn’t a member of Toto but had several members play on his album as they did for many singers and musicians as they had reputation as great session musicians!
Boz is a much bigger legend than Toto who as was already stated played on this and other Boz’s albums. He is as cool as they come!Sometimes when you are listening to a song for the first time just enjoy the music and learn the story later!
Lido just got out of jail. Steals a car, snatches some money from a cash register, and heads to Chicago to do some gambling before riding off into the sunset for good.
Boz is a rabbit hole unto himself. Check out Lowdown, JoJo, Love, Look What You've Done, and many others. His session group later became ToTo, but they got their chops doing recording sessions with Boz and others.
Boz was bigger than Toto ever dreamed about. And he was not in Toto. He started out in The Steve Miller Band, which was also bigger than Toto ever dreamed of being. Haha.
This song is bringing back so many memories. How I wish I could go back sometimes. I miss those days. Enjoyed the reaction. Have a great and safe new year Phil and Sam!
Boz Skaggs was also part of the Steve Miller Band during his career. All kinds of mixed influences in his style. Silk Degrees is a great 'Hits' album. Fyi - he also joined with Michael McDonald and Donald Fagen of Steely Dan as the "Dukes of September" trio.
I would argue that it's 'We're All Alone', although his version (the original) wasn't as popular as Rita Coolidge's version, I still think it's better.
Boz was so cool…so many really good songs’ Yes, I would call it a style of jazz/rock fusion….not quite that of Steely Dan, but great in its own way! So much talent all the way through! Part of the soundtrack to my life!
Boz scaggs, huge band in the early seventies and a big part of my growing up with the females.put on a little Boz Scaggs and get a little something, something
Love Boz, thanks for reacting to Lido Shuffule! Other great songs from Boz you should check out are Lowdown (probably his most famous song), Breakdown Dead Ahead and Jojo.
Guys- Toto has many vibes,as you'll discover as you continue with them. They can sound great doing any style. They keys in this tune are VERY Toto (David Paich and Steve Porcaro, respectively). Also-- if you are aware of the movie 'The Wizard Of Oz', the band name is said exactly like Dorothy's dog 'Toto' in the move (not 'Toe-Toe' per se. The 2nd 'T' is a softer one/all one word/not separated). 🙂 Cheers, T
I hope I’m the Joseph, my brain fails me but this is certainly in my wheelhouse to have recommended. Silk Degrees, the album this is from is in my perpetual Top 5 of all time. The right mood and it’s #1. Every song on it is 🔥. Don’t worry too much about the songs it’s the vibe! There are multiple vibes on the album. As for Toto, it’s all about lineage. We start at Steve Miller Band (Joker/Fly Like an Eagle). Steve taught Boz (you got the pronunciation) to play guitar and Boz joined his band. Later Boz spun off to do his own thing and in 1976 Silk Degrees was born. 3 members of Boz’s band including the cowriter of the songs left to form Toto. There ya go, if it was me Thank You! Lowdown should be next, even a better vibe with a bass line from OMG. Boz is still playing and singing! Happy New Year Sam and Phil! Joe
Love some Boz. His 1976 album Silk Degrees is probably his most popular. It's awesome. But Come On Home from 97 and Dig from 2001 are a couple of his later albums that are some of my favorites.
He was not a member of Toto. Members of Toto were basically some of the best session players in the biz. They played on Boz’s albums. Jojo, Breakdown Dead Ahead, It’s Over, Harbor Lights, Georgia and many more. His album Silk Degrees is perfection.
Boz's prior group was the Steve Miller Band.
Absolutely correct. Boz was the catalyst for Toto forming as they met to back him on Silk Degrees. Great voice and great album.
He helped form Toto. He was a band mate of Steve Miller in the band the Ardells and later in the Steve Miller Band.
Hello Phil and Sam,
I really like Boz, but it took me diving into his LPs. He has many great songs if you check him out.
Some of the members of Toto are in the song. Jeff porcaro is on the drums Steve Porcaro is playing the synthesizer and Mike porcaro is on bass
The entire album is one of the best albums to come out of the ‘70’s.
This was, in my opinion, one of the most successful artists to merge rock, pop, jazzy blues, and easy-listening styles. Most can't pull it off. This album is a MUST for collectors who like classic collections! I LOVE when you guys take me back to my teens and early 20s!!

Whole Album was FIRE!!! :)
"Lowdown" is a gem of 70's R & B Pop and his biggest hit.
Oh gosh. Every time we see Boz in concert, the whole crowd goes wild when he sings this. Well…all his songs really. And yes. Every song on Silk Degrees is stellar!
A great one!! You will love him and want more and more!!! 😊Boz Skaggs is great! I particularly love Lido Shuffle ❤NEXT TIME; “LOWDOWN” Excellent!! 😊

Nice pick from the 70s, Lowdown is really good too !
Boz was in another great band - Steve Miller Band. You should check them out, start with the Joker or Abracadabra & you’ll see how get they are. Deep rabbit hole. Try Lowdown by Boz banger
Scaggs,Billy Joel, Bob Seger came out with some great stuff at the same time. Great time for music. THis hole album is great.
Lately Boz has been playing with Michael MacDonald & Donald Fagen in the Dukes of September.
Coming in at #2 of all time Boz Scaggs compositions right behind Boz and Duane Allmans' "Somebody loan me a dime."
One of the greatest blues jams ever!
Boz Scaggs with Duane Allman doing, Loan me a dime, is one of the best blues songs ever
Boz is Boss

Look What You've Done to Me - Boz Scaggs
One of his all time best songs
Lido was a gambler, yall. Check the lyrics. It'll all make sense ... Also, Boz played with The Steve Miller Blues Band, before they were just The Steve Miler Band.
The whole album was a masterpiece.
Do Lowdown from the same album. Youll love it.
He was 10 million albums popular . Not bad for the mid 70s
I’ve been a fan since the 80’s and had no idea about his Toto connection before. Now that I know you can definitely hear the Toto influence. Try “Love, Look What You’ve Done to Me”.
I saw him back in the 70s in Detroit when he was touring this album, then again in 2019 in Hiroshima. Phenomenal performer.
His monster hit ballad “Love look what you’ve done to me” will slay you.
This is my favorite Boz tune.
Good job Joseph. Now they have Boz Scaggs in their repertoire of discovery. This was smart music you "could" dance to during the dumb down era of disco. Excellent production when production would make all the difference with the massive amounts of releases of the time. Boz was out front.
"Jojo", "Look What You've Done To Me", "Miss Sun" and "Breakdown Dead Ahead" were some of his other Top 40 hits. Had all his hits on 45.
"Lido Shuffle" is my get up and shower song. ☀️
another great song from Bod Scaggs Look what ave you've done to me live cocert is the best !!!
"Lowdown" should be your next Boz Skaggs reaction! Thanks for this reaction. ✌💙✌
Boz Scaggs rabbit hole is a vast selection of rock and jazz well worth diving into.
Low down is a banger, One funky track that is play list for sure.
Groove courtesy of the late GREAT Jeff Porcaro on drums. Several members of the band that would become Toto (including Jeff) were in Boz Scaggs' backup band.

The Steve Miller Band is who you need to listen to for Boz Scaggs
You can't go wrong with anything by the Boz!
One of my favorite singers.
"Lowdown" is his best, check it out!
i think from the lyrics, Lido is a gambler.
This is one of those songs that I never get tired of even though I've heard it a ton of times and put it on almost every compilation I make. He has several hits but this one has always been my favorite by him. You guys have so many more artists and groups to get to.
A shuffle is a dance song. Catch the bounce and go.
You will also love Lowdown by Boz Scaggs. It will remind you of Steely Dan, that is if you've done Steely Dan.
Boz Skaggs is sneaky-good. A number of hits, but somehow still underrated. Give them all a listen. I'd put him in the same league / group as Steely Dan, or living in a space between Toto and Steely Dan.

The Toto boys (David Paich, Jeff Porcaro, David Hungate and Steve Porcaro) were Boz Scaggs' backup band before they became Toto.
My analogy exactly between Toto and Steely Dan.
Another ballad I love is “Heart Of Mine”
Check out his albums Come On Home and Dig if you haven't heard them. Really good music on both.
To truly understand and appreciate Boz
You would have to go back to the beginning
In the Steve Miller Band
But Boz’s finest of musical endeavors
Was definitely
“Loan Me A Dime”
Off his first solo album
Recorded At Muscle Shoals

Duane Allman was a studio musician at Fame Recording Studio in Muscle Shoals
This epic timeless Blues Rock Classic

The whole album is Platinum, Lowdown is probably the best track. Boz Scaggs left the Steve Miller Band around 1968.
I love watching you youngsters trying to resist this :-D
Shinedown - "Cut The Cord" 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

One of the kings of "Blue-Eyed Soul " music is here to entertain you with his extraordinary talents. I LOVE him. 😊😊😊

My favorite Boz Scaggs song has to be Look What You've Done TO Me from Urban Cowboy, but he has a lot of hits.
"Lowdown" , live version is fantastic! As close to a studio sound as you can get, plus, you have the visuals. Can't go wrong, live or studio.
Thx y’all! “Lowdown” is probably his most known song. Scaggs is a funny name! Ricky Skaggs is a legend in bluegrass! I highly recommend!
I would argue that it's 'We're All Alone', although his version (the original) wasn't as popular as Rita Coolidge's version, I still think it's better.

The sound of the song is whats important not the lyrics.
A typical shuffle by the late Jeff Porcaro !! (TOTO).
"Lido shuffle" is good but "Lowdown" is where it's at! 👍
How about some of the black cats from the same era? So far 0 on Bars & Barebells
Curtis Mayfield- Superfly ( 73) 🔥
Curtis Mayfield
Should really check out "Lowdown" by Boz..
Saw him at a college bar at Arizona State in the early 80’s, and it was a free show. He was a very talented singer and song writer.
Love anything Boz!

I saw him this summer. He still sounds fantastic, and his band is one of the best out there!
Lowdown Lowdown Lowdown Lowdown Lowdown Lowdown Lowdown Lowdown Lowdown 🤣🤣
'Were all alone ' is a stand out track.
Now y'all should do Boz Scaggs live " low down " .
Boz sang soul and R&B from way back, even before he was famous. He really hit his stride in the mid to late 70s. Love his music.
Also a very good blues artist!
3 members of Toto were the backup musicians. Porcaro, Hungate, Paich
Boz goes way back in 70’s studio rock.
My fav by Boz! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
