I've waited 25 years to see this footage! Had never been to Wimbledon but was a huge McEnroe fan (still am) and watched the BBC highlights of the doubles final on the Sunday evening. Was chuffed when they announced that the match would continue the next day at 13 games all and that entry would be free as I was going to London that day anyway to see a Bruce Springsteen concert. Left Weston-super-Mare Monday morning in our old yellow 2CV and dropped my wife in Bristol for a work presentation. Then drove up to Gunnersbury, parked the car and took the tube to Southfields. Walked to the AELTC and straight into a prime seat on the old No 1 court. I could not believe my luck! Out came the players and there was my all time favourite player yards away in a Wimbledon final. It could have been over in 10 minutes but it wasn't; McEnroe and Stich could have lost but they didn't. There they were, parading the trophy around the court perimeter to tumultuous applause, Tatum and offspring in tow. Then it was off back to Gunnersbury to pick up the car and a drive to Wembley. Bruce and band were fabulous but, for once, the Boss took second billing to the mighty Mac. What a day!
Something not dissimilar happened to me. I was going to a Miles Davis concert at Wembley, arrived way too early and found myself outside where they were playing the tennis tournament just as a couple were coming out, having to leave early. I asked if we could have their tickets and we went inside to find Mac and Fleming a set and break down. In the next hour they broke back and again and took the decider. I think that Mac didn't miss a return or volley or interception that whole hour. Absolute magic. And, of course, after the match we went onto a fantastic Miles Davis concert! Best night out ever
Similar to Dave. My Dad, sister and I went after seeing the match on TV Sunday when they announced Monday was a free day...so off we went, me and my sister had the day off school. Does anyone know how I can get a clearer copy as me and my sister are in the crowd for most serves but blurred. I’d love to see us after all these years! 😎
Peter Fleming was once asked if he and John McEnroe were the best double partnership ever.. Fleming replied.. “McEnroe with anyone is the best double partnership ever”. Mac was that good

Where is the missing point before the last break point? 17:17 30:30? Somewhere I read it was the best point of the match.

Great story. It's nice when everything just falls into place.@@danguee1
thanks for this upload mate 🤙🏻 greets from south-western germany 🖖🏻
What a relief. No endless chatting and hand love after every point.
Mac is easily the best doubles player ever.
I’ve studied that question and you are correct. Martina Navratilova for the women.

Old number 1 best court ever
That year, McEnroe would reach the Wimbledon Single's semi-final, before being beaten by Andre Agassi.

It was a fantastic day Martin. Like you, I keep trying to spot myself but the video quality makes it difficult.

His last win should have been in 99 with Stefi Graff too bad she pulled out.
29:40 decisive point by Supermac
Where is the point before?
Well, the crowd obviously wanted Stich to win badly.
Are you sure?
😂
I can not see the ball. Oh dear.
I cant see the ball..
Image is too poor to see ball
Back when players could get away with a bit colour on their clothes - sigh - better times.
